Buck paints an indelible portrait of China in the 1920s, when the last emperor reigned and the vast political and social upheavals of the twentieth century were but distant rumblings. This moving, classic story of the honest farmer Wang Lung and his selfless wife O-Lan is must reading for those who would fully appreciate the sweeping changes that have occurred in the lives of the Chinese people during the last century. Here we will look at the key areas of how to create tonal and textural variation and the use of directional marks. Your second block will follow and it will originate from your own drawing. This will turn our attention to planning for printing in a single colour and composition. During the course there will be many demonstrations of key areas and techniques, as well as plenty of group and one-to-one tuition to guide you through every step. We will also look at many examples of prints, including those produced in the class, while sharing thoughts, and lively discussion will be encouraged. No previous experience or knowledge of printmaking is needed. The ability to describe your ideas through drawing will be helpful. Do I need to bring anything? Basic materials including inks and cartridge paper will be provided. Wear something you don’t mind getting inky, or bring an apron - however there are some here to borrow too. No open toed shoes please! If I can't attend can I get a refund? We will refund you if you cancel no less than 14 days before the course, after this time no refunds will be issued. Please note Eventbrite’s booking fee is non refundable. By making a booking you are agreeing to our full course terms and conditions which can be found on our website here. What if the course is cancelled? We reserve the right to cancel the course for any reason (for example, insufficient bookings). We will endeavour to give at least 7 days notice if the course is cancelled and in the event of cancellation we will, of course, issue you a full refund. Please refer to full terms and conditions here. Accessibility Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Seacourt Print Workshop is on street level, and is accessible through the front doors in a wheelchair. It is fully wheelchair accessible, larger than standard doors and disabled toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at info@seacourt-ni.org.uk to discuss any concerns you may have before booking.
