Portland
Welcome to the Songwriter Soiree!
Join us for this special cozy edition of Portland's most connected home grown style music event!
This month's theme is: Rise!
How do you rise up for what you believe in? What pulls you to action? How does this come through in your music?
The Songwriter Soiree is a 15+ year running musical community which started in a Portland Living room, and now has reaches across the world.
Our mission is to support songwriters of all skill levels and genres, create an inspiring and supportive community, and provide a safe space where individuals can express themselves through music and storytelling. Over 8500 songwriters have played since we began in 2009. Wow!
Join us for this very special soiree as we celebrate coming together in music, connection and belonging!
HOW IT WORKS
The Soiree is an open mic for original music. Every song played MUST be original and played by the writer. Each person gets up to 5 minutes to present.
1) TO SIGN UP TO PLAY
Online sign-ups will be taken in the order received and the list will be made based on your requested time preference.
Please note that online sign-ups will be closed after 25 people have signed up.
After that point, you will have to sign up in person and you’ll be put in a raffle for your time slot. To increase the possibility of playing in your desired timeframe, please arrive at the venue between 6-6:30pm.
You must purchase a ticket online first in order to sign up online (you will be taken to link upon purchase). You may also sign up at the event in person still.
When you sign up online, there are two steps:
1.
You must first purchase a ticket
2.
Click either on the link in the confirmation message OR on the online sign up form link which is included in your ticket email from Eventbrite (at the bottom).
For in-person sign-ups, we have two sign-up periods. Sign-ups will begin 30 minutes before the start time of the first half, so please arrive on time if you want to sign up!
Please note that we often have more people who want to play than space, so sign-ups are on a first come basis online and in-person. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sophisticated Simplicity
Our events offer a fresh alternative to speed dating and matchmaking. We don't find anything romantic about whistles, name-tags or over-the-top party trimmings typically found at singles events so we have done away with them. Creating an atmosphere that is at once casual and comfortable. It's what we call cheeky-chic!
Meet a partner to attend concerts, music festivals, bar crawls or fitness classes. Someone who shares your passions and interests - from sports to yoga - all in a setting just your speed.

Upon registration, you'll be sent an email inviting you to login to your mobile MyCheekyDate ‘Smart-Card’. As the event begins, login to your scorecard and let the flirting begin. You'll be able to choose whom you fancy meeting again, to what degree you like them and have until midnight to submit your final selections for matching. Once the clock strikes midnight - return to our platform to see your matches. It's where Cheeky meets convenience! You can also access your profile via mobile, tablet or PC. Our platform isn't an app so it requires absolutely no downloading and can be accessed directly from our website, anytime. Paper scorecards are just so 2010!
The night has arrived! Go to the venue at the published start time for the event. There is no official start time to the speed dating portion of the evening - we like to wait for all daters to arrive, to have a moment to settle in with a refreshment and mingle should they wish.
Our personable hosts will assist you with your MyCheekyDate 'Smart-Card’ Scorecard. Flirty and fun, your mobile scorecard is just the beginning. Chat up our Hosts for tips or simply to ask, which direction the bar is in! After being shown to your table, the ladies will remain seated for the duration of the event. This is his grandma’s story. She was imprisoned by Japan’s forces in the Dutch East Indies (Indonesia) after being deported there from America because of her father’s undocumented status. Includes a book reading, sharing, and slides of recently uncovered maps and photos. Books to purchase at event. About the Book Blue Skies, Troubled Waters, tells the remarkable true story of twin sisters Ath and Kath, born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, in 1933, whose family is uprooted and deported to the jungles of Indonesia due to their father's undocumented status. Their new life is quickly shattered when, in 1941, Japan invades, and the family is imprisoned as civilian prisoners of war. Co-authored by her grandson, this memoir blends Ath's personal narrative with newly uncovered historical records, maps, and photographs, bringing to life a forgotten chapter of history and the enduring spirit of survival. Brian Kimmel is a second-generation multiheritage Dutch Indonesian American and third grandchild to Pacific Northwest author, Martha Walandouw Lohn. He co- authored Lohn's memoir, Blue Skies, Troubled Waters, edited the first Indonesian language version, and has a published chapter in Transcending: Trans Buddhist Voices (North Atlantic Books) and Dancing With The Dharma: Movement and Dance in Western Buddhism. A Buddhist teacher ordained by Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Thích Nhất Hạnh, Kimmel incorporates decades of engagement with deep songs and light-hearted banter. Martha Walandouw Lohn was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey to a naturalized American Polish Mama who escaped the Russian occupation of Poland in the 1920s and an undocumented Minahasan-Indonesian Papa who disembarked a Dutch military ship in New York and never reboarded—Lohn is not just an author; she's a living testament to resilience and the human spirit. As a survivor of World War II's Japanese occupation of Indonesia, formerly known as the Dutch East Indies, and as a child who saw her father getting deported from the United States, Lohn's experiences have become a wellspring of inspiration for her writing. Her evocative storytelling captures the nuances of history, weaving together the threads of personal experience with the grand tapestry of global events.
