The Walters Art Museum offers in-person school tours in the galleries, with opportunities for either docent-led or self-guided experiences. Please complete this registration form to reserve a docent-led tour for your school group. Guided tours are 75 minutes long and are offered on Wednesdays and Fridays at 10:00 a.m. Tours require a minimum of ten students with a maximum of 80 students on Wednesdays and 40 students on Fridays. One chaperone per group of ten students is required. Discover Our In-person Tour Themes Ancient Cultures: (Recommended for grades 2-12) Examine artifacts that reflect the art, mythologies, culture, and daily life from around the world. This tour may include objects from our Ancient World galleries, which feature Egypt, Greece, Rome, and the Near East, as well as Across Asia; Arts of Asia and the Islamic World, and Selections from Art of the Ancient Americas. Students will partake in an in-depth exploration of ancient cultures, as well as discuss the roles of ancient and contemporary community members such as leaders, teachers, protectors, and families.Telling Stories in Art: (Recommended for grades K-12) Use visual clues to decode and interpret stories and themes expressed in works of art, as well as analyze narrative elements including setting, character, and plot.Animals in Art: (Recommended for grades PreK-3) Explore the different ways that artists depicted real and imaginary animals and habitats in paintings and sculptures throughout the centuries. Discuss use of the elements of art—lines, shapes, colors, and textures—in this exploration.Tours are FREE. A voluntary contribution of $7 per student will help us sustain educational programs for our communities. Pride is a time for celebration, yes! — yet also a time for reflection and remembrance. To mark the beginning of Pride month in Baltimore, The Emmanuel Choir offers a reprise performance of the profoundly moving passion oratorio Considering Matthew Shepard by Craig Hella Johnson. First presented at Emmanuel to great effect in 2022, this powerful work tells the story of gay Wyoming college student Matthew Shepard’s brutal 1998 beating and murder — and of the hope that transcends such tragedy, through music of varying styles: jazz, blues, country, and gospel included. Presented in collaboration with the Maryland Pride Center and Baltimore Pride, this program promises a deeply enriching experience for Baltimore’s LGBTQIA+ community and its many friends and allies. Single tickets are transferable, but not refundable. If your plans change and you can no longer attend a performance, we encourage you to transfer your tickets to a friend. About the choirThe Emmanuel Choir is Maryland's premier professional liturgical choral ensemble. A 16-voice fully-professional mixed-voice ensemble, its 12-member core is augmented by four Choral Scholars, each a local young artist. Rooted in the great and expansive choral traditions of the Anglican (Episcopal) Church, the Emmanuel Choir’s repertoire spans the centuries — from Italian Renaissance to English Romantic; from plainsong to the 21st century — and includes regular world-premiere performances of new music composed for the church of today and tomorrow. About the venueEmmanuel Episcopal Church is located in the heart of Baltimore's historic Mt. Vernon neighborhood. Its tremendous stone tower at the corner of Cathedral and W. Read Streets serves as a beacon in this community, and the nave's warm acoustic and gentle ambiance contribute to creating an ideal environment in which to hear choral and chamber music. In 2022, the church building underwent a $3.2M transformation to make each space in its physical plant fully accessible to all; included in this project was an elevator, increased ramp access, and new restroom facilities.
