Artist Statement & Bio Writing | The Mill Gallery
Jul 30, 2025 (UTC+1)
Winslow
Do you dread writing about your work? You’re not alone. This workshop is designed to help artists of all disciplines craft clearer, more authentic artist statements and bios that reflect both their creative voice and professional identity.
We’ll explore what makes an effective artist statement and how it can evolve depending on context—whether it’s for a funding application, exhibition, publication, or your website. You’ll be guided through exercises that help you identify the core themes, questions, and materials in your practice, and how to express them in a way that feels honest and engaging without becoming overly academic or abstract.
In the second half, we’ll tackle writing your artist bio—short, punchy, and to the point, but still full of personality. You'll leave the session with a stronger sense of your artistic voice, a solid draft of your statement and bio, and tips for keeping them fresh and adaptable for future use.
This is a relaxed, no-judgement space where experimentation and messy first drafts are encouraged. Bring a notebook, your past statements (if you have them), and an openness to rethinking how you present your practice.
This workshop is heavily subsidised, but not free, thanks to the generous funding from Leeds Council. In order to keep the workshop accessible to all, we offer three ticket tiers based on your income: £5, £10, and £15
, plus the Eventbrite booking fee.
We ask that you choose the ticket that best reflects what you can afford, so we can continue offering affordable opportunities for everyone. Your support helps us keep these sessions running for the creative community.
About the Project
The Resilient Artist Cohort is a free, artist-led development programme supporting six Leeds-based artists through mentoring, skill-sharing workshops, and hands-on exhibition experience.

BRING YOUR BABY PUB QUIZ @ The Beech House, ST ALBANS, HERTFORDSHIRE (AL1) | The Beech House
Aug 1, 2025 (UTC+1)
St Albans
NOW TWICE A MONTH! On the 1st Friday of the month and the 2nd Tuesday of the month. Both 12pm-2.30pm. Change of venue to The Beech House as of April 2025.
From the award-winning creator of ‘Bring Your Baby Guided London Walks’, ‘Bring Your Baby Pub Quizzes’ are fun, brain-stimulating daytime parent socials, which take place all over London, the South East, the South West and The Midlands.
Team size is 6 maximum to make it fair on everyone.
Quizzes take a slower pace than traditional ones. We are parents ourselves, and understand juggling a ‘baby brain’ with baby distractions!
Toddlers and older children are welcome, but are the parent or carer's responsibility. Please bring suitable toys and games to entertain them while you quiz!
We take two breaks to feed, change and chat, and questions are always repeated. Settle in with the picture round from 12pm, with a further five quiz rounds (including general knowledge, music, connection and themed) starting at 12.30pm until 2.30pm. Don’t panic if you’re a bit late - we repeat questions.
A lunch menu including vegan and gluten-free options is available.
Baby change is available, including our legendary mobile baby change which means you don't need to leave the quiz to change baby!
A number of high chairs are also available.
Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd places include items such as Prosecco, luxury chocolates and beauty boxes.
Complimentary sweet treats for each table (sealed in packaging).
Important notes:
- Children are the responsibility of the parent or guardian, and must be monitored by them at all times.
- We understand that the parent or guardian will want to keep sleeping babies close to their table in baby carriers (including, for example: prams, buggies or car seats). However if babies are awake we reserve the right to ask the parent or guardian to move their baby carrier into a designated area of the venue to meet health and safety requirements (such as clear access to fire exits and clear walkways).
- Refunds or requests to move to a future event or date must be requested within 24 hours of the event commencing so that we can try to refill the space in adequate time.
- On occasion we take photos or short video clips at our 'Bring Your Baby Pub Quizzes' or 'Bring Your Baby Guided London Walks'. By attending you are giving your permission for these to be used for Bring Your Baby Ltd promotional purposes. Any individual who we have taken a photograph of and published can request that any photographs are removed and deleted at any time. Even if they have given consent when booking according to our terms and conditions, they can of course withdraw their consent and can contact us at Lucy@bringyourbaby.org

"Lughnasadh Offering Bowls" a Salisbury Crafty Coven Workshop | Fisherton Mill - Gallery | Cafe | Studios
Aug 1, 2025 (UTC+1)
Salisbury
Gather in a friendly group with Lynette, The White Witch of Wiltshire, and Artist, Tamsin Loveday for this gentle, crafty workshop celebrating Lughnasadh, the Grain Harvest festival.
We will make little bowls with warm terracotta oloured air-drying clay; pressing ears of corn and other shapse into the surface before draping the shape into a biodegradable bananna leaf bowl form. This can become an offering bowl for you home altar or sacred space, a container for you favourite crystals or jewellery, or simply a reminder of a well spent evening!
We will hear about Lugh, the Celtic Sun God, who is known as the God of Crafts, making things and a job well made. Lynette will also talk about the practice of making offerings in historiacal and contemporary contexts.
Lughnasadh is sometimes known as Lammas and is the first Harvest Festival in the Wheel of the Year. It is an abundant time of feasting and gratitude for the cornucopia of the grown harvest. This workshop is an opportunity to bring some creative joy to your celebration and make something truly personal imbued with your intentions.
Lynette will lead us in a short welcoming and cleansing ritual to create a safe space and help us to set our intentions. She will talk a little about Lughnasadh, and about the practice of making offerings to set the scene. Lynette will guide us in setting intentions and share information about colours and symbols of the festival.
Tamsin will talk a little about the process of working with the clay and support all creative aspects of the workshopp, making sure that we all have everything we need for a safe and companionable evening of crafting. Tamsin will demonstrate the process and we will try out the technique on postcard sized pieces of paper.
We will roll out the clay and cut out a circle, press in ears of corn and other shapes to creative persinal and symbolic designs, before draping the clay into bowl forms. This not only profiles the clay into a 3D bowl shape but wil cradle our new bowls safely for transport home and support them while they dry and harden.
Refreshments, materials and eventbrite fees are included in the ticket price.
Gloves will be provided but please bring an apron.
You will recieve materials to make a small slab formed bowl and a small pinch pot.

RESPECT YOUR ELDERS with Wild Combination | Shepherd Wheel
Aug 17, 2025 (UTC+1)
Sheffield
A series of outdoor workshops on how to identify plants, their cultural and ecological importance, and the multiple ways we can preserve and process them for modern use.
In this series we will center our meetings around The Elder, a tree known as a mother for its generosity in all that it provides.Often overlooked when not in bloom, the Elder is a culturally important tree full of folklore, tradition, and many practical, medicinal and culinary uses. This will be a chance to really get to know and develop a relationship with a plant, from buds to flowers, berries to bare branches and fungus. In each stage of growth we will explore how to preserve different parts of the tree, going way beyond elderflower cordial.
We will use our meetings to explore the ways people used to commune with trees could be brought into our lives as an act of resistance to modern malaise, creating a feeling of connection not only with the plant and the world around us but with each other too.
Each meeting will provide you with the opportunity for foraging, preserving, crafting and discussion. We will be sharing experiences and knowledge with plenty of wild cooking and recipes to try all from this magical, mythical, mama of a tree.

Late Season Grass Identification | Old Sarum Castle
Sep 4, 2025 (UTC+1)
Salisbury
A one-day course giving participants:
confidence in identifying key grasses of neutral and unimproved calcareous grassland for late season surveys
a knowledge of using grass indicator species
a chance to learn memorable features allowing easy grass identification
Nearly every species of grass, rush and sedge has at least one key feature which can be used to pinpoint them to genus and species level. This course aims to teach people to spot and memorise these characters for the majority of common species and some of the more specialised species found on unimproved grasslands.
This course will focus on how to identify grasses in the early autumn when many have already gone over, and several have lost their inflorescences all together. We will look at both vegetative features and dehisced floral characteristic features. We will also look at areas that have already been cut and grazed and the challenges of identifying grasses in these habitats.
The course will cover roughly 25 species of grass, including most of the commonly encountered species, as well as those associated with species-rich grassland.
About the tutor
Dominic Price is a highly regarded botanical tutor and has been running courses for all levels of ecologists since 2007. He is director of The Species Recovery Trust and specialises in the conservation of endangered species. He is the author of A Field Guide to Grasses, Sedges and Rushes and co-author of The Photographic Guide to Winter Trees and Shrubs.

We apologise that the site does not open until 10am, so please do not attempt to enter the site before 10:05am as it very quickly blocks the access track if there is a delay in site opening. Adverse weather
This is an outdoor run course on an exposed site, and as such we request that participants bring suitable clothing including sunhats, sunblock, and full waterproofs & fleeces. As the climate breaks down, we do occasionally have severe weather where either it is very difficult to take notes due to prolonged heavy rain, or temperatures have reached a point where long exposure can be detrimental to health.
In these instances, we will run a condensed version of the course, where we aim to see all the species before lunch but have less time to take notes on them. We will then give attendees free access to the corresponding online course for 24 hours, which means you can take notes and look at the species in more detail in the comfort of your home. We have built a corresponding online catalogue of courses for this purpose, and we therefore feel we can offer the same training experience while looking after attendees' welfare in the field.
Therefore if you look at the forecast before the course and start panicking - don’t worry, we’ve got you!
Course certificate
This course can be used as part of your Continuing Professional Development (CPD). We invite attendees to download their own certificate and complete the numbers of hours spent on the course, as we are aware some attendees spend more time reading up about courses before the day, and writing their notes up and sitting the online course tests afterwards. The hours on your certificate should accurately reflect this time.
