A charming story about romance, friendship, and a love of books, in which two women—a lonely remote worker and a widowed single mom—and a handsome local bookstore clerk find themselves in an unusual love triangle when an anonymous note left in a book finds the wrong recipient.Third Place Books and the Seattle Public Library are delighted to welcome The Seattle Times arts critic Moira Macdonald for a discussion of her debut novel, Storybook Ending. Bethany Jean Clement, food critic for The Seattle Times, will join in conversation. A hilarious and intricate web of mistaken identities and serendipitous encounters, Storybook Ending is a playful tribute to romance, friendship, and bookstores, and to the objects—from a forgotten slip of paper to someone’s heart—left between the pages of books we loved. The bookstore featured in Moira's novel is based on our very own Ravenna neighborhood store! Venue: Seattle Public Library (Central Branch), Microsoft Auditorium, 1000 Fourth Ave., Seattle, WA 98104 Time: 7pm (Doors open 6:30pm) This event will include a public signing and time for audience Q&A. About Storybook Ending. . .A charming story about romance, friendship, and a love of books, in which two women—a lonely remote worker and a widowed single mom—and a handsome local bookstore clerk find themselves in an unusual love triangle when an anonymous note left in a book finds the wrong recipient. April, a smart and lonely tech worker, worries work from home has gotten out of hand: She’s left an anonymous note in a book for Westley, the clerk at her Seattle neighborhood bookstore who has a gentle smile and looks great in flannel. But thanks to fate, Laura—a busy single mom who had given up on love—buys the book, finds the note, and thinks Westley has left it for her. A handsome man who loves books seems like just the plot twist she has been looking for. Meanwhile, Westley—not the most perceptive—is too distracted by the movie filming at the store and the ambition it’s unlocked in him to notice either of the two women. But as April and Laura’s anonymous correspondence continues back and forth, their mundane routines are challenged, sparking a glimmer of hope. Is a happy ending in the cards for them? A hilarious and intricate web of mistaken identities and serendipitous encounters, Storybook Ending is a playful tribute to romance, friendship, and bookstores, and to the objects—from a forgotten slip of paper to someone’s heart—left between the pages of books we loved. Moira Macdonald is the longtime arts critic for The Seattle Times. Storybook Ending is her first novel. Seattle Indies Speaker Series: Jakub Kasztalski, Unbound Creations | PublicDisplay.Art

May 2, 2025 (UTC-8)
Seattle
Arts
Join us for the next edition of the Seattle Indies Speaker Series. This time we are featuring Jakub Kasztalski, founder of Unbound Creations and creator of Headliner, Headliner: NoviNews, Rain on Your Parade, Just Crow Things, and more! In this talk Jakub will be giving a retrospective on his recent hit releases Rain on Your Parade and Just Crow Things. About this talk There are a lot of lessons one learns after running an indie studio for a decade and releasing 7 commercial titles. A lot of lessons which have been covered by much wiser men in much better talks before. And yet, as an avid consumer of these resources, I always felt they don’t neatly encapsulate my own way of doing things; that my own process doesn’t neatly fall into what other developers might consider “best practices.” In this talk, I will reflect on the hybrid solo/team-based process at Unbound Creations, how the gaming landscape has changed (and keeps changing) with every new release, and a slew of other peculiar revelations. You will learn why I don’t use grayboxing, why I think sloppy design can be good, and how I use my own limitations as a pillar for sustainable success. Schedule 6-7pm: Networking/social hour 7-8pm: Presentation/Q&A 8-9pm: Networking Pizza, light snacks, and drinks will be provided. Alcoholic beverages will not be provided or permitted at this event. *** Venue PublicDisplay.Arts is next to Target on Union St. parking is available in the Target parking garage or there are other public garages nearby on 2nd Ave. *** Accessibility information: The venue is wheelchair accessible. It is a couple of blocks from the 3rd and Pike/Pine bus stop and Westlake Station. It is a secure building, we will have someone in the lobby until 7pm to let you up in. Message @admin on Discord if you show up later than 7 and someone will come down let you in. *** Seattle Indies strives to be an inclusive and welcoming community for everyone. By attending our events, you are agreeing to follow our code of conduct (https://www.seattleindies.org/code-of-conduct/). Information Source: Seattle Indies | eventbrite
