We're organising a workshop for activists, performers, writers, musicians, and anyone who wants to provoke new ways of thinking and talking about the multiple and connected political crises we face, through street theatre/performance. The day will be led by scholar and activist David Calder (University of Manchester). We are intending to start with a session by David, introducing us to some of the history of key moments and movements in political street theatre, but from the practical point of view of learning from the past. This will help us understand how we may reapply and develop the ideas for the current moment. The day will be fairly open ended, allowing us to move in to some practical experimentation, and/or small group discussions to explore the ideas further, and work out where we'll take the work next. The event will be limited to 20 participants, and is free, but you need to register for a place beforehand. Coming to the day doesn't commit you to engaging in political street theatre, but is intended for those who actively interested in the idea of perhaps doing so. You will need to bring your own lunch but hot drinks will be provided. We intend to create a space and a way of working which is anti-racist, LGBTQ+ inclusive, feminist, pro-immigration, anti-fascist, and in solidarity with the Palestinian people. Steve Brogden here. I am delighted to tell you that Buster Akrey and I are partnering to bring Corky Siegel and Ernie Watts to the Conejo Valley. Buster is a keyboard player (Players) and member of the Rock Godz Hall of Fame. Please join us for what will surely be a transcendant evening of music. Corky and Ernie Jazz icon Ernie Watts and blues harmonica ace Corky Siegel first met in Mumbai. The distinguished violin virtuoso, Dr. L. Subramaniam, invited them to perform in his Global Fusion project. Also, they have been best of friends from the moment they met. Further, they continue to collaborate in celebrated performances and on acclaimed recording projects. For example, Ernie is featured on both recent releases of Corky’s revolutionary Chamber Blues project. The evening will display musical fireworks from these two iconic masters, filled with remarkable stories and humor from two extraordinary lives. In Corky’s words: “Innocent victims of incredible good fortune.” Corky Siegel is known as one of the world’s great blues harmonica and keyboard players. He created Chamber Blues, a unique six-piece ensemble that bridges the gap between the blues and classical music. Additionally, Corky has a pivotal influence in modern music. He maintains close associations with the blues masters in the earlier days of Chicago blues through his Siegel-Schwall Band. He also played an essential part in the blues rock revolution. Furthermore, he has achieved a surprising level of success in bringing together blues and classical audiences. Finally, Downbeat Magazine calls him a “national treasure.” Ernie Watts is a two-time Grammy winning saxophonist. Watts played in the Tonight Show band with Doc Severinsen for Johnny Carsonfor twenty years. Further, he toured with many notable musicians including the Rolling Stones, Charlie Haden, Buddy Rich and Pat Metheny. Additionally, he has recorded with Marvin Gaye, Dizzy Gillespie, Paul McCartney, Aretha Franklin, Steely Dan, Frank Zappa and others. Also, Watts has been featured on over 1500 recordings, consistently exhibiting his unforgettable gift for improvisation. Information Source: Steve Brogden's Brogden Bay Presents | eventbrite
