The ensemble’s repertoire contains an incredible amount of music. Just look at some of the programs so dearly loved by our viewers: these are tribute concerts of such great composers as Ludovico Einaudi, Hans Zimmer, John Williams, Ólafur Arnalds, Joe Hisaishi, or the minimalists’ John Cage and David Lang, along with At the same time, the ensemble performs popular soundtracks from sensational TV shows and movies: Wednesday, The Young Pope, Harry Potter, a variety of Disney and Pixar films, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit saga, Spencer, Star Wars and others. There is also the unique music of Enigma, Enya, combined with neoclassical music, or world rock hits, and tributes to the legendary Michael Jackson, Queen and the Beatles. Alyn Cosker - Drums

In this world premiere concert, saxophonist and composer Paul Towndrow presents a brand new collection of compositions, inspired by the vastness of the ocean, bridging the worlds of jazz, folk and classical music.
“The sea is everything. It covers seven tenths of the terrestrial globe. Its breath is pure and healthy. It is an immense desert, where man is never lonely, for he feels life stirring on all sides. The sea is only the embodiment of a supernatural and wonderful existence. It is nothing but love and emotion; it is the Living Infinite. ”
Jules Verne, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea
Towndrow joins forces with longtime co-conspirators Alyn Cosker and Pete Johnstone alongside rising star of the double bass, Ali Watson. They are joined by a string quartet comprising the talents of key instrumentalists from the orchestral world.
About Paul Towndrow
Saxophonist Paul Towndrow is best known as a bandleader of ensembles ranging from duo to sextet. From 2001-2021 he was a member of Scotland’s flagship jazz orchestra, The SNJO, before leaving the organisation to focus on solo pursuits. More recently he has worked as a composer and saxophonist for the groundbreaking Grit Orchestra. Performing professionally since the age of 15, and having spent his formative musical years studying on both sides of the Atlantic, Towndrow has become one the UK’s busiest musicians.
Paul has released six solo albums and has appeared as a sideman on many others. Much of his output is released on his own label, Keywork Records which was founded in 2005.
“His albums confirm the contemporary Scottish scene's membership of the world league.”

Once described in The Guardian as
“A turbo-charged amalgam of all your saxophone heroes”
, Towndrow has maintained an extensive international career and profile, touring both with his own-name projects and others, such as with sensational US group The Bad Plus, New York based pianist David Berkman, Venezualan piano virtuoso Leo Blanco, jazz vocalist Kurt Elling, and jazz legend Benny Golson. In 2008 he was selected to tour Europe as part of the new European Colours Jazz Orchestra, a project comprising top jazz musicians from all over Europe.
In 2002 he won The Peter Whittingham Jazz Award resulting in his debut album ‘Colours’, and in 2003, reached the final of The World Saxophone Competition at Montreux Jazz Festival, winning the Public Prize (most audience votes) following his performance with the Geri Allen Trio.
As composer and arranger, Towndrow has written for ensembles of all shapes and sizes including music for TV and radio and arranging commissions for the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra. He has also developed compositional work with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra as part of Serious Productions' Air Time scheme. In 2013 he was commissioned to write music to celebrate 21 years of the London Jazz Festival. In 2014 he was commissioned to compose 'Pro-Am', his debut suite for double big band, to celebrate the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Towndrow was commissioned in 2018 to compose a new work for Glasgow's Festival 2018. The result was 'Deepening The River', a 60 minute work for extended multi-genre big band. 'Deepening The River' was subsequently included in the 2019 programme for Celtic Connections Festival, with a studio recording of the suite released in 2020, and subsequently longlisted for the 2021 Scottish Album of The Year Awards. University of Glasgow Tours | University of Glasgow
Jun 11, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Glasgow
The Tour
Founded in 1451, the University of Glasgow is the fourth-oldest university in the English-speaking world. Originally located on High Street in the city centre near Glasgow Cathedral, in 1870 it moved to the stunning collection of buildings perched upon Gilmorehill today, where it continues to watch over the bustling city and picturesque tenements of Glasgow’s West End.
This walking tour will take you on a fascinating journey around some of the university’s most significant spots - from philosopher Thomas Reid’s tombstone and the atmospheric cloisters to the very same staircase Lord Kelvin would take from his house to his laboratory - whilst discovering the connections of James Watt, Adam Smith and Isabella Elder whose names are inscribed on the university’s Memorial Gates.
For your consideration, we have prepared a video preview of the tour:

Dave Arcari + special guest Al Hughes | The Glad Cafe CIC
Jun 12, 2025 (UTC+1)ENDED
Glasgow

advance / £15 on the door
(subject to availabilty)
SLIDE guitarist & songwriter Dave Arcari’s alt.blues sounds owe as much to trash country, punk and rockabilly as they do pre-war Delta blues and have been showcased via seven internationally-acclaimed solo album releases.
Following a successful Kickstarter campaign his eighth album
Still Friends
is set for release in August 2025.
A finalist in the UK Blues Federation’s
UK Blues Awards 2023
, Arcari has had his music featured in numerous BBC TV programmes as well as popular USA series
The Deadliest Catch
.
The ultimate validation for Arcari’s music and performance came in 2019 when National Reso-Phonic Guitars launched the
‘Dave Arcari signature model’
guitar. Arcari joins an elite and exclusive group of players who have signature models and is the first – and only – musician outside the USA to be honoured by the iconic instrument maker whose name is synonymous with the development of the blues genre.
While continuing to build his audience in the USA with once or twice-annual tours since 2013 – including official showcases at SxSW in Austin, Texas – Arcari also maintains his presence on the UK and European touring and festival circuits.
Arcari’s festival appearances include Glastonbury
(UK)
, Red Rooster
(UK)
, BluesAlive
(Czech Republic & Poland shows)
, Moulin Blues
(Netherlands)
, The Great British R&B Festival and Peer Festival
(Belgium)
. He has also played industry showcases at the North by North East
(NxNE)
music festival in Toronto, Canada and he was a finalist the UK Indy Music Awards reaching the top four in his category (best male solo artist).
A series of shows with folks including Steve Earle, Alabama 3, Seasick Steve, Toby Keith and Jon Spencer along with his relentless UK and European tour schedule have established Arcari as a formidable international solo performer who is fast building a media reputation as a ‘hell-raising National guitar madman’.
A former debt collector, Arcari cut his musical teeth busking on the streets of Glasgow before forming his first band Summerfield Blues which won the Alexis Korner Memorial Trophy and accolade of
Scottish Blues Band of the Year
at Edinburgh International Blues Festival in1993.
He went on to form pioneering alt.blues trio Radiotones, releasing three studio albums between1998 and 2003 before embarking on a solo career.
In between times, Arcari also played guitar with Union Avenue – an oddball collective playing least expected covers
(think The Clash, Pink Floyd, Undertones, Bob Marley)
in a late 50’s/Sun Records-era Cash style. The band landed record of the week on Mark Radcliffe’s Radio 1 show with their version of Motorhead’s
Ace of Spades
.
