Ruth AsawaDoing Is Living | David Zwirner
Nov 19, 2024–Feb 22, 2025 (UTC+8)ENDED
Hong Kong
I study nature, and a lot of these forms come from observing plants. I really look at nature and I just do it as I see it. I draw something on paper. And then I am able to take a wire line and go into the air and define the air without stealing it from anyone. —Ruth Asawa . David Zwirner is pleased to announce an exhibition of sculptures and works on paper by American artist Ruth Asawa (1926–2013) at the gallery’s Hong Kong location. Relentlessly experimental across a range of mediums, Asawa is known for her works built on simple, repeated gestures that accumulate into complex compositions. The artist moved effortlessly between abstract and figurative registers in both two and three dimensions, creating a vast and varied oeuvre that, despite its visual heterogeneity, reflects above all her belief in the total integration of artistic practice and family life. The first solo presentation of Asawa’s work in Greater China, the exhibition provides an overview of the artist’s wide-ranging practice, focusing in particular on her affinity for the natural world, which in turn provided a constant source of inspiration in her art.
Scott KahnOnce in a Blue Moon | David Zwirner
Nov 19, 2024–Feb 22, 2025 (UTC+8)ENDED
Hong Kong
David Zwirner is pleased to present an exhibition by American artist Scott Kahn at the gallery’s Hong Kong location. Once in a Blue Moon will feature a body of new paintings that focuses on different types of full moons—with its myriad connotations—as their central compositional element. Also on view will be a selection of landscapes from throughout Kahn’s career, several of which include the moon, often glimpsed in the background, materializing as a sort of omen for the scene laid out beneath. Viewed together, these works exemplify the artist’s distinctive approach to the genre. This will be Kahn’s first solo presentation in Asia and his first with the gallery since his representation was announced in May 2024.
Rooted in his everyday life and experiences, Kahn’s enigmatic landscapes, portraits, and dreamscapes blend real and surreal elements. The artist has remained committed to a figurative mode of expression over the course of more than five decades, using a distinctive formal language to achieve a nuanced and poetic rendition of the simultaneous splendor and mundanity of the world around him. His surfaces are meticulously constructed according to precise geometries and chromatic and spatial relationships, wherein the artist employs perspective and light to establish an illusory sense of depth that underscores the resonances imparted by the recurring cast of people, places, and symbols. Kahn’s works evidence his individual point of view while opening out onto universal themes, offering viewers a conduit through which to access a wide range of emotions.

Movement Festival 舞動節 2024: Speaking From Afar 來自遠方的話語 | Eaton HK
Nov 23–Nov 24, 2024 (UTC+8)ENDED
Hong Kong
Presented by Eaton HK, Movement Festival was first initiated in 2018 and has hosted two editions in 2019 and 2022. Movement Festival brings performance art to a mixed audience: from performance enthusiasts to passersby, as well as hotel clients, dining guests, and hotel staff. Brought together in the same space either by chance or by their own will, audiences will experience curated movement activations in unusual spaces. Site-specificity lies at the core of the festival. With no stage, performers, audience members and anonymous passersby all share the same space. The constraints of the hotel space require artists to work around the blurred lines between the audience and the artists; performers may decide to attract the crowd’s attention or disappear into their surroundings to manipulate the space between performance and “real life”. This year, the Movement Festival reverts to a 24-hour format, reminiscent of its inaugural 2019 edition, providing an uninterrupted viewing experience featuring a diverse array of dance styles and performances, ranging from traditional (ballet, Cantonese theater) and popular (Bollywood and flash mob) to internet-inspired (ASMR, mukbang) and conceptual (automatic writing, participatory performance). The 24-hour format offers a durational spectatorship that attends to time as a key element as important as movement. The extension of time is not intended for performers and the audience to endure their physical limits of exhaustion, but to destabilize the internal clock used to discipline their movement and expectations. The 24-hour format opens up curiosity for aesthetic experience by extending the period of attention to others' actions and accidents , as well as their own. In these observations, we find the beauty of uncertainty over time. This year’s theme “Speaking From Afar” originated from “The Man and the Snake” (Book X, Fable 1, 1678), a fable by French writer Jean de La Fontaine. The moral of the story concludes that people in high places do not listen to reason and believe they are entitled to everything. La Fontaine advises to speak from afar or keep quiet: “And this being so, when you wish to teach the truth to such people, keep out of their reach.” The theme encapsulates the experience of movement and connects it to the act of speaking. Speaking as a form of movement, through the use or non-use of gestures, is the motive behind each of the performances and interweaves the various forms of expression together in the festival. Addressing the shortcomings of common language between different communities is one of the potentials offered by performance art. Movement Festival has always been a platform for cultural exchange. This year, we are partnering with regional and Hong Kong arts and cultural organizations, including Alice Theatre Laboratory, Hong Kong Ballet, NOWNESS ASIA, TS Crew, Unlock Dancing Plaza, Yinzi Theater with the support from the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau, Current Plans, and Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia - Shanghai and Tin Project. Over 50 artists and academics from Hong Kong and overseas are featured in the festival to create over 30 performances, films, lectures, and workshops. This year’s festival will highlight members of different ethnic groups from within Asia and Africa to enrich the program with their traditional dances, including representatives from Asian Migrant Coordinating Body, Africa Center Hong Kong, BEYOND Bollywood, and One Billion Rising HK.

'Transitions' Multi-media Group Exhibition & Workshops by Being Neighbourly | Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre
Nov 24, 2024 (UTC+8)ENDED
Hong Kong
EACH TICKET ADMITS ONE PERSON. Being Neighbourly's art exhibition 'Transitions' explores themes of change and growth across body, self and place, November 21-25 at the HK Visual Arts Centre. Join us for this exciting event! Participating Artists Our stellar lineup includes the following creatives: Andreas von Buddenbrock (aka 'The Ink Trail'), Vivian Ho, Elsa Jeandedieu, Bharat Khemlani, Francesco Lietti, Carol Man, Lindsey McAlister, Louise Soloway Chan, Peter Sung and Andrew Tse. About the Theme 'Transitions' The meaning of Transitions is the process or period of changing from one state or condition to another. Our lives are marked by many transitions — physical transitions around birth, adolescence and puberty, life before and after childbirth, ageing and death, which touch many of us if we are lucky enough to live long. But there are other markers too, societal ones, around which transitions occur, like entering kindergarten, school or university, first jobs and then job hopping, moving out from our childhood homes to rent or buy our own homes, dating, getting engaged and married, having children, moving home and sometimes country, getting divorced. Not all of us have yet or will ever tick off each of these but the ones we do define our lives and our perceptions of ourselves and, often, the way we’re seen by others. Just as we are going through personal transitions, so too is Hong Kong imbued with them. World city that it is, it bears witness to our personal transitions daily, and it is also party to its own. In these days of ever-increasing Woke-ism, and the resultant censorship both of self and of others, art is an essential conduit to re-energise the stultified and channel our attention inwards to contemplate the things that are profoundly affecting us. Judging Panel We are pleased to have the involvement of the following judges to determine which of our 10 participating Artists will receive the 'Being Neighbourly Creativity Award': Bert Bulthuis of STUDIO SITEC, Vivian Ho of the FindArt App, and Pete Ross and Kyra Campbell, acting as one vote, from the HK Arts Collective. About Being Neighbourly Being Neighbourly is a community business that serves Individuals, Charities & NGOs and Businesses. We add value to each group through our events, community Facebook groups (free membership for Individuals and Charity & NGO members and nominally-priced membership for businesses); and, for businesses, through membership benefits including increased visibility via paid features, our Directory and advertising and sponsorship opportunities. TizzyT BUTTERFLY EFFECT WORLD TOUR IN HONGKONG | Asia World-Expo

VIP privileges: Early admission|1V1 photo session|1 signed poster
Standing ticket RMB 818 (priority admission) Rights: early admission|Poster
Starting from the subtle texture, we step into the deep corridor of time and create a gorgeous butterfly transformation. In the narrative of music, the vast landscape is further magnified, and under the focus of applause and spotlights, the world begins to take on more dimensional bright colors.
The beginning of the journey is also the starting point of change. TizzyT's "Butterfly Effect" world tour has officially begun, and this time, he wants to bring the story to a vast stage. In the center of the floating island in the flashy world, the mirror-like lake water always reflects people's temperament. Taking Worldwide as the route, the sudden changes and foreshadowing in life are building a new field of higher dimensions.
From Chaoshan to Guangzhou, from a simple recording studio to a stadium with thousands of people, he has experienced overnight fame and lost himself. Under the cover of applause and the focus of spotlights, TizzyT has also lost his way in the darkness that others cannot see. Swallowing secretly with uneasiness. Taking over the ups and downs script from the hands of fate, he kneaded all the pride, confusion, struggle, ecstasy, and all kinds of mixed emotions into a ball. On the road to becoming a "big shot", every precious mark was marked.
Today, TizzyT is not shy about expressing his pride. This is a recognition of his hard work over the years, and it is also a response to the doubts from the outside world. With the release of the new album "Vanity Fair", TizzyT turns the strong emotions that have been quenched along the way into an urban fable, sharply cutting through the color of life, passing through gold foil and phantom, and slowly unfolding this meaningful golden picture. .
After re-examining fame and wealth, desire, temptation, responsibility and original intention, yearning and vision, they were rearranged and combined to present a different appearance. As far as the eye can see, there are numerous changes, but there is always some desire from the bottom of the heart, which constantly urges us to move towards the goal, from low-frequency bursts to sudden roars.
Flip your wings and a new journey is about to begin. This TizzyT "Butterfly Effect" world tour concert will pass through Sydney, Melbourne, New York, Toronto, Boston, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and other stops. On the timeline Another new chapter of , see you there!
Henry Steiner: The Art of Graphic Communication | M+
Jun 15–Nov 10, 2024 (UTC+8)ENDED
Hong Kong
Part of M+’s new Pao Pao and Watari exhibition series, “Henri Stein: Images into Words” celebrates Stein’s influential approach to imagery by showcasing his most iconic projects, tracing the city’s development since the 1960s.
Henri Stein was born in Austria in 1934 and moved to the United States. He studied under the famous American graphic designer Paul Rand at Yale University and was well versed in telling stories through images. After moving to Hong Kong in 1961, he found that this multicultural city was full of vitality and was transforming into an international hub in manufacturing, trade, finance, leisure and tourism. Using concepts and contrasts, he juxtaposed elements of multiple cultures and created a new and infectious way of image communication. This playful, unexpected and intriguing language has made his designs resonate with a wide and diverse audience.
The exhibition is divided into two parts, first tracing Henry Stein’s early experiences and influences, and then taking viewers through Henry Stein’s unique designs, from large-scale infrastructure and industrial projects that reflect Hong Kong’s development to plans that reflect the city’s ambitions to become a tourist resort. Showcasing Henry Stein’s work during Hong Kong’s most prosperous decades, the exhibition illustrates the important role of graphic design in Hong Kong’s unique visual culture.
