The Bigfoot Poetry Festival's 2025 Poetry Market | Portland Visitor Center
Jul 12, 2025 (UTC-8)ENDED
Portland
Heard a poem the other night and need to buy the book it’s in? Did you talk with a poet and they mentioned some artsy stickers they’re selling? Want to check out some sweet poetry and artist wares? Now is your chance! Come out to the Bigfoot Poetry Festival's Poetry Market! We’ll have a market full of chapbooks, broadsides, buttons, pins, and more from poets competing at the festival. There will be free coffee (courtesy of the Washington St. Stumptown!) and snacks while you meet and mingle with poets. This event is FREE to attend (though hopefully you'll spend some money in supporting a poet!). It is taking place at the Portland Visitor Center (1132 SW Harvey Milk St) on July 12th from 9:00am - 12:00pm. This event is for registered poets with the festival to sell their merch. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy this market, and support the artists by purchasing their materials, but as there is limited room for tables in this space, we are not taking sellers who aren't registered with the competition at this time. If you are a poet with the festival, we will provide as much space as possible - but we may need to have folks share tables to make space! This venue is ADA accessible. This event takes place on the ground floor of the Portland Visitor Center, with a bathroom on the same level.

Shift (Jane Ira Bloom, Ken Filiano, and Brian Shankar Adler) | SPACE
Jul 13, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Portland
Soaring, poetic, quicksilver, spontaneous and instantly identifiable are words used to describe the soprano sound of
saxophonist Jane Ira Bloom
. She has been developing her singular voice on the soprano saxophone for over 45 years. She is a pioneer in the use of live electronics and movement in jazz. Winner of the Guggenheim Fellowship for music composition, the Downbeat International Critics Poll & Jazz Journalists Association Award for soprano saxophone, the Mary Lou Williams Award for lifetime service to jazz and the Charlie Parker Fellowship for jazz innovation. She is the first musician ever commissioned by the NASA Art Program and has an asteroid named in her honor by the International Astronomical Union (asteroid: 6083janeirabloom). Her critically acclaimed album Early Americans received a Grammy Award for Best Surround Sound Album and made numerous year-end best lists. Her duo release with bassist Mark Helias, Some Kind of Tomorrow, was featured on NPR’s Fresh Air and received 4 stars from Downbeat magazine. Her recent critically acclaimed duo projects “Tues Days” with drummer Allison Miller and “See Our Way” with Helias and trio project with Helias and Bobby Previte “2.3.23” all appear on Bandcamp.
JIB finds inspiration in creating exploratory music with improvising musicians around the world and has participated in several international ‘remote’ events including a performance at the United Nations that linked improvising musicians in Korea, China, New York, and San Diego. She has recorded and produced 20 albums of her music dating from 1977 to the present. Bloom is a professor at New School University’s College of the Performing Arts in NYC. Nat Hentoff called Bloom an artist “beyond category.” Bill Milkowski has described Bloom as “a true jazz original…a restlessly creative spirit, and a modern day role model for any aspiring musician who dares to follow his or her own vision.”
Ken Filiano is a bassist, composer, improviser, and teacher who performs around the world, fusing the rich traditions of the double bass with his own seemingly limitless imagination. A “creative virtuoso” (JazzValley), Ken has performed and recorded with a veritable who's who in multiple genres, from Anthony Braxton to Pablo Ziegler. Ken leads two quartets, Quantum Entanglements and Baudolino's Dilemma, and is co-leader of The Steve Adams/Ken Filiano Duo and other collective ensembles. He is also an integral member of groups led by Taylor Ho Bynum, Jason Kao Hwang, Fay Victor, Vinny Golia, Diane Moser, Karl Berger, and others, and was a key member of groups led by the late Roswell Rudd and Connie Crothers. Ken's extensive discography includes the solo CD, "Subvenire"(Nine Winds) and Quantum Entanglements's "Dreams From a Clown Car" (Clean Feed). He is a Guiding Artist and on the Board of Advisors for Creative Music Studio in Woodstock, NY.
Brian Shankar Adler is an interdisciplinary percussionist and composer. Described as "a polyrhythmic force… New York City gritty yet still somehow capable of evoking the delicacy of a summer breeze…” (JazzTimes), his work transcends the terrain between genre and geographic region, asking: how can we find connection through rhythm? Adler has performed in caves, forests and adjacent glacial ice fields as well as Carnegie Hall, Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center and The Stone. He has been recorded on over fifty albums including his solo works: For a Gallery on the Moon (Chant Records), Fourth Dimension (Chant Records), and his recent collaboration: Air Space: Cricket Cipher (Adhyâropa Records).
Playing primarily a hybrid drum set that includes North Indian tabla, Argentine bombo legüero and found objects, Adler's work explores the perception of time, the communicative properties of rhythmic gesture and existential questions that reside in the human condition. With equal focus on improvisational and compositional practices, he uses rhythm as a tool for connection. Brian Shankar Adler has collaborated with Kinan Azmeh, Ballet Hispanico, Bash the Trash, Bomba de Tiempo, Jay Clayton, LA Opera, Guillermo Klein, Frank London, Palaver Strings and more. He has been featured in Jason Bivins’ book "Spirits Rejoice," The Center For Deep Listening's "A Year of Deep Listening," NPR's "New Sounds," PBS's "Next at the Kennedy Center'' as well as Downbeat and Modern Drummer Magazine. His music video, “Mantra” won best music video at Transcinema International Film Festival in Peru and an official selection at Quiet City Film Festival in New York City.

Dean Johnson & Erin Rae | SPACE
Jul 18, 2025 (UTC-4)ENDED
Portland
Two of our era's finest folk Americana songwriters — Seattle's "hidden gem" Dean Johnson and Nashville's indie folk-pop artist Erin Rae — perform together and solo in a round robin style.
Three years after the release of her critically acclaimed debut,
Putting On Airs
, Nashville-raised singer-songwriter
Erin Rae
shares an intimate, honest, and playful version of herself through her sophomore album
Lighten Up
. Produced by Jonathan Wilson, and recorded in the musically hallowed grounds of California’s Topanga Canyon, the album represents a sonic and inner shift for Rae. In it, she embraces more of her influences, like baroque-pop, cosmic country, and indie-folk songs while mirroring a more compassionate self-view she calls “accepting my humanness.”
Although she grew up in a musically oriented family, Rae’s pursuit of music happened by accident. After being gifted a Martin acoustic guitar on her 18th birthday, Rae decided to drop out of college after just one semester. Her goal at the time had little to do with making music into a career, and everything to do with spending more time and energy with the community of musicians and writers she knew back home. Looking back on those days, she recalls the initial high of playing live at an open mic during winter break and realizing, “this is how I connect with people. I have to pursue this.”
Rae has continued to connect with people through her music ever since, performing at mainstays like Newport Folk Festival, Red Rocks Amphitheater, and sharing stages with Father John Misty, Hiss Golden Messenger, Jenny Lewis, Jason Isbell, and Iron & Wine. The success of
Putting On Airs
also earned her a nomination for Emerging Act of The Year at the 2019 Americana Music Awards alongside other trailblazing artists like Yola, Jade Bird, and J.S. Ondara. When the Covid-19 pandemic called a halt to touring, Rae took advantage of the opportunity to revel in a wide range of musical influences she had absorbed since the making of
Putting On Airs
, sitting in an un-rushed space while deciding which direction she wanted to take her music next.
Not long after crossing beyond the neon into Al’s Tavern, one might catch murmurs drifting up and down the bar during
Dean Johnson
’s bartending shifts – nudges and whispers that he might just be the best songwriter in town. “Wait ’til you hear him sing. Just don’t ask him to do it, because he won’t. He might do another show this year, but probably not.” Al’s regulars, howsoever biased, speak of his talent like a family secret – Seattle folklore. How many times, and for how many years, has Dean elusively replied to some variation of the question, “When will there be a record?”
The phrase “hidden gem” would seem appropriate here, but it’s a misnomer when talking about Dean Johnson. He shines bright, in plain sight, and it was only a matter of time before people stopped to take a look. Dean’s gentle and passionate approach to songwriting has inspired many, and his work provides the listener the opportunity to believe once more that a song can be more than the sum of its parts. If you catch even a phrase of his melodies or the sobering tone of his voice, it waltzes its way into your heart like a letter written, signed, sealed, and delivered just for you.
His debut album
Nothing for Me, Please
was recorded at Mashed Potato Records in New Orleans with the help of Sam Gelband and Charlie Meyer, Dean’s bandmates in The Sons of Rainier; as well as Mashed Potato regulars Sam Doores, Duff Thompson and Steph Green. The record is a hazy, relaxed daydream—– anthems for those who know the sweetness and coldness of quiet moments, the power and the pain of love. Whether you’ve been waiting patiently these many for Dean to release these songs, or you’re just now coming across his work for the first time, the name Dean Johnson, much like his songs, won’t soon leave your mind.

WHY ARE THERE MULTIPLE EVENTS DISPLAYING A SIMILAR EVENT WITH THE SAME DATES AND LOCATION?
These are all the same event! We are limited in the amount of characters we can type in an event title. Since our event encompasses: Anime, Game, Horror, Marvel, DC, Disney, Star Wars, Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter & Lord of the Rings, this is simply too long to put into an event title. To make it easier and in order to reach fans of each theme, we have created separate events for these themes but keep in mind, it is all the same event.
THIS EVENT SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE. HOW DO I KNOW THIS IS A LEGITIMATE EVENT?
We encourage you to Google us at "amazing art expo" where you will see many updates, reviews, etc. We have over 45,000 followers on Facebook, 18,000 on Instagram and have been in business since 2016. We have hosted over 100 events during that time.
WHAT WILL THE ARTIST DO?
The featured artists will be signing and adding original hand embellishments/highlights to all of their purchased canvasses turning them into one-of-a-kind originals at no charge. This adds $200 value to your canvas!
IS THIS EVENT COMPLETELY FREE?
Yes, everyone is free to attend and no purchase is necessary. Autographs and paint embellishments by the artist are free.
ARE KIDS ALLOWED?
This event is 100% Kid & Stroller Friendly!
HOW DO I GET AN AUTOGRAPH FROM JIM CUMMINGS?
Autographs may be purchased at the event (voice actor's booth) using cash, credit card or Apple Pay. There will be other options as well to upgrade your signature to include larger prints, Funkos, swords, statues, quotes/doodles, voice/video recording, selfies, etc. Those prices will be determined at the event itself. You may bring to the event your own product(s) to be signed including print(s), Funkos, swords, etc. Remember, this is also a pop culture art expo and there will be lots of super cool prints relevant to the voice actors available to purchase at the event. We encourage you to take a look at the art show first before getting in line with the voice actors. If you plan to purchase autographs, we recommend you also purchase a VIP ticket since it allows you 1 hour early access to the voice actors before the doors open to the public, at which time the lines can get lengthy.
ARE YOU ACCEPTING VENDORS OR ARTISTS FOR THIS EVENT?
We are not accepting any vendors for this event. If you are an artist interested in working with us at future events, you may submit examples of your work to john@amazingartexpo.com.

However, Due to encounters of theft, attempts in converting the art via A.I. and/or unauthorized reproduction (bootlegging) of the artwork, our artists request no closeup photography of the art itself please.
