CHERYL WHEELER / GOODNIGHT MOONSHINE at Vine & Vibes | Small Batch Cellars
Jul 27, 2025 (UTC-4)
North Haven
CHERYL WHEELER / GOODNIGHT MOONSHINE at Vine & Vibes - Small Batch Cellars, North Haven CT.
Sunday July 27th,
Doors 4pm. - Showtime 5pm
Tickets: $25. General Standing
Tickets: $35. Reserved Seated
CHERYL WHEELER
If your idea of a folk singer/songwriter concert is a bunch of people clapping politely after songs, and then sitting quietly while the performer says things like "This next song is about ...", well, you've never seen a
Cheryl Wheeler
concert before.
Cheryl's concerts are more like what you would find at a comedy club than expect to find at a folk music concert. She can tell a story that has you rolling in the aisles, and then sing a song that leaves you wiping tears from your eyes. She will talk about some serious current event, and then sing a song that will have you howling with laughter. Her entire concert is a emotional roller coaster.
It has always seemed as if there were two Cheryl Wheelers, with fans of the New England songwriter relishing watching the two tussle for control of the mic. There is poet-Cheryl, writer of some of the prettiest, most alluring and intelligent ballads on the modern folk scene. And there is her evil twin, comic-Cheryl, a militant trend defier and savagely funny social critic. The result is a delightful contrast between poet and comic.
+ GOODNIGHT MOONSHINE
Goodnight Moonshine is a guitar and vocal duet, and a musical marriage in all senses. The Duo combines the evocative voice and songwriting of Molly Venter, with Eben Pariser’s adventurous guitar playing. The result is folk music with a depth of improvisation and tonal subtlety usually reserved for jazz.
Molly is well known for her sublime singing in the prominent female-vocal-group Red Molly, while Eben cut his teeth as a street performer in New York City, playing guttural music of New Orleans with his band Roosevelt Dime.
Molly’s enviable voice, which can be called both “biker-chick smoky” (New Haven Register), and “like silk” (American Songwriter Magazine), has taken her career to highlights including Tønder Festival in Denmark, Kate Wolf Fest in CA, and multiple placements on television and film. In Goodnight Moonshine she is in full force as a songwriter. Her trance-induced stream-of-consciousness writing style results in compositions that probe the depths of her inner experience. Her hit song “Hold It All”, recorded with Red Molly and performed regularly with Goodnight Moonshine, questions the meaning of life, and grapples with acceptance, with honesty and heart usually reserved for literary writers- which she also is- she writes a weekly column on Patreon.com
Starting as a blues guitarist in his teens, Eben’s imagination was quickly captured by classic jazz, which he studied at the Oberlin Conservatory. “Pariser’s harmonic sensibilities are wide, imaginative” (NPR), and his career has involved singing lead and playing bass with Roosevelt Dime, playing drums and being musical director of Red Molly- but it is his love of jazz and improvising on display in Goodnight Moonshine. A natural producer, Eben has 8 studio records under his belt for himself and other artists, and recently launched the new record label, Equitone Records.

Tone and Temperature with Clare Haward | Dulwich Art Group & School
Aug 21, 2025 (UTC+1)
Dulwich
21st, 22nd, 28th, 29th of August 2025
10am – 4pm
Beginner to advanced level
In this four day workshop, we will take a deeper look at the tone and temperature in a still life set up. Working from a series of ‘neutral’ compositions, we will look at how tone can be used to create light, drama, contrast or subtlety, and how the addition of colour leads us to ask questions about ‘temperature’. Clare will introduce a series of exercises working with limited palettes and complementary colours to help you to tune into the tonal relationships within your compositions and experiment with how temperature can alter the light or atmosphere.
In week one, we will work with white/cream/blue/brown setups, using a limited palette of Raw Umber, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna and Ultramarine Blue. In week two we will expand our colour palette to include violets and yellows.
Points to note
The workshop will run from 10am to 4.00pm with a break for lunch
You will need a surface to paint on, brushes, palette knife solvent, linseed oil or medium rag/kitchen roll and space to put your objects out and space to paint. We will start with some colour mixing, so have a few spare surfaces to work on (gessoed or primed paper is fine).
Palette
We will start with a limited palette in week one and then move on to a split primary palette in week two:
Raw Umber
Burnt Umber
Ultramarine Blue
Burnt Sienna
Titanium White
Alizarin Crimson (or Rose Madder)
Cadmium Red (or Scarlet Lake)
Ultramarine BluePhtalo or Prussian Blue
Cadmium Yellow
Cadmium Lemon (optional)
