Railway Revolution: Station Agent's House Open Days 2025 | M3 4JN
Sep 13, 2025 (UTC+1)
Manchester
Explore the
Station Agents House
and its history as part of Heritage Open Days with
the Landmark Trust.
In 1828, the building and the surrounding site was identified by the Liverpool & Manchester Railway (under the initial supervision of Engineer George Stephenson) as being well placed for what would be Liverpool Road Station. The house became the dwelling of the first Station Agent, Joseph Green and his family. The Station Agent’s House was the hub around which Liverpool Road Station was developed. Here, so much that would characterise train travel was first seen: waiting rooms, signals, tickets, ticket offices, and the station agent’s (later master's) house.
Come and explore this grand Victorian home, now wonderfully restored for future generations and families to enjoy as a hub for exploration of Manchester and the surrounding area.
We will be sharing information about the history of the building, and a Children’s Explorer activity booklet will be available. All are welcome.
Whilst booking is not essential we would ask that you register for the event via Eventbrite so that we can provide you with updates regarding the event and manage capacities. Priority will be given to those who have pre-registered.
Finding us
The main entrance for the event will be the front door on Liverpool Road, near the junction with Water Street. Due to the capacity of the building we will be running timed admission slots throughout the day. Please therefore book your preferred admission time, and arrive within your time slot to be sure of entry. Please note, on the day if we are at capacity you may be asked to wait a short period, we thank you for your patience in this situation.
Accessibility
The Station Agent’s House has been designed to be as accessible as possible, a lift is available providing access to all floors. If you require lift access, please let us know via the registration on Eventbrite. One the day lift access is via the rear of the building, so please alert staff at the front entrance on arrival who will be happy to direct you. We do all we can to enable access wherever possible; for further information or if you have any access concerns that you’d like to discuss before visiting, please contact our Booking Enquiries team on 01628 825925 or
booking@landmarktrust.org.uk
. The Booking Office is open Mon to Fri - 9am to 5pm.
There is no parking available on site. The building is located in the centre of Manchester, in the Castlefield area, so we encourage visitors to use Manchester’s excellent public transport to travel to the event. If you need to drive the nearest public pay and display car park is on Water Street. For blue badge holders there are a couple of public use disabled parking bays on the street outside the building on Water Street.
Making a donation as part of your visit
We believe that everyone should have the opportunity to visit a Landmark for free as part of our Open Day programme, and as such we’re pleased to continue to offer free entry at all our Open Days in 2025.
The Landmark Trust is a building conservation charity that relies on donations to support its work. Over the past 60 years, public support has helped us rescue over 200 historic buildings and make them available for all to experience and enjoy. Your support by attending our events, booking a workshop, and making a donation allows us to continue to save buildings at risk and continue to maintain those already in our care. Your donation could help train the craftspeople needed to restore a future Landmark, offer opportunities for young people to experience history first-hand, or provide a charity with free Landmark stay for their service users through our
50 for Free scheme.
Donations can be made when you book your Eventbrite ticket, at the event via contactless donation points, or after your visit via our website under
Support.

Learn To Renovate With TV Expert - Sustainably, Spectacularly, Seriously | Moregeous Mansions
Sep 26, 2025 (UTC+1)
Manchester
A unique workshop, quite possibly the only one of it's kind in the UK, taking place for a full day on Friday 26th September in South Manchester, then meeting up on Saturday 27th morning for an exciting shopping trip at the incredible Arthur Swallows architetcural salvage show at the Cheshire Showground.
Are you currently renovating your home or planning an upcoming re-model or residential project? Would you benefit from practical help and guidance with design or build questions? Would you like to create a scheme and finish with panache, style and individuality, but which also has a unique character and genuinely sustainable choices?
Maybe you want to buy a gift for someone embarking on an exciting project, as opposed to for yourself? Whatever the reason, this renovation workshop, with a focus on incorporating reclamation and architectural salvage, is as unique and special as we all want our homes to be.
Many guests come along on their own and thoroughly enjoy themselves, so solo renovators are positively encouraged.
Held in their own home Moregeous HQ, extensively redesigned over several years using reclaimed materials, architectural salvage and treasure sourced from unexpected places, Sian and Martin (aka Instagram’s Mr Moregeous) are hosting a day filled with practical advice and inspirational content. Their “Reno Days”, hosted by Airbnb Experiences pre-Covid, were a smash, featuring in the Sunday Times and the proud recipients of many 5 Star reviews, a handful of which are below.
FRIDAY
On the Friday there will be a full day workshop focused on redesigning and renovating homes with both conservation and cost in mind. TV designer and property expert Sian Astley (BBC 2's Your Home Made Perfect, BBC1's Getting the Builders In and DIYSOS) guides guests through the increasingly expensive world of property renovation and offers invaluable hints and tips from her 25yrs experience. You will save the cost of this workshop in expert tips before lunchtime.
This new walking workshop takes a step forward in an increasingly expensive world where we’re all looking to save money whilst trying to make more sustainable choices on builds and renovations. It helps attendees achieve personalisation and bespoke finishes in an increasingly vanilla world of bland box extensions. It also features a practical afternoon session looking at (and playing with!) specific materials, finishes and paint to help guests to make the right choices for their homes.
Guests are also encouraged to bring along any conundrums from their own home, in the form of photos or plans, for some personal 1-1 advice at the end of the workshop - if that isn’t great value for money, what is!
To get expert 1-2-1 advice from Sian is bookable at £395 per day, so this is a super affordable way to access an expert as part of a group, yet with your specific questions about your renovation.
All that - and a delicious lunch too.
SATURDAY
On the Saturday we all attend the fabulous
Arthur Swallow Fairs
Antique and Salvage Fair at the Cheshire Showground. This is a 20 minute drive from Moregeous Mansions, so attendees can meet here and follow us to the venue, or meet us there. The entrance fee to the fair is £10.
Guests will be filled with inspiration from our Friday workshop, ready to explore the stalls with keener eyes and sharper skills. The Friday workshop will have demonstrated how architectural salvage can be used in the home, both inside and outside, in unusual and creative ways.
You'll then explore the fantastic AS Fair, where Team Moregeous have previously bought a host of treasured items and with Sian's guidance, select and buy your own brilliant finds, whatever your budget. Or not, of course, there is no obligation to buy, you can simply browse and plan... but it's a challenge not to find at least a small amount of treasure ;)
FAQs
For attendees travelling into Manchester, there are a number of affordable stay-over options, such as the
Premier Inn at West Didsbury
, the
Travel Lodge at Parrswood,
or the gorgeous
Didsbury House Hotel
in nearby Didsbury.
Guests can stay at the Saturday fair all day, but we're normally there 9-2ish.
Please let us know any food allergies / vegetarian option required on booking, thanks!
Food at the fair is not included, but there are some cracking food outlets there to buy snacks and a light lunch.
Host experience : Sian has been renovating properties back to brick for their own portfolio and for clients for 25yrs. She has been a project manager & interior designer for BBC1's DIYSOS, and for the BBC2's hit series Your Home Made Perfect, a lady builder on BBC1's Getting the Builders in and project lead on Channel 5's Half Built House. She started her career running a damp and timber company, understanding buildings from the inside out. She and Mr Moregeous run 17 rental properties and 2 Airbnbs, and have redesigned restaurants and indepdendent shops, so also understand properties from a commercial / residential perspective.
