For Cedar presented shows, online ticket sales typically end one hour before the door time, and then, based on availability, tickets will be available at the door. Photo by Mat Slefvert ABOUT THIS SHOW Last seen here at The Cedar in 2010, Swedish world music icon Ale Möller returns to the US to perform with American roots music hero Bruce Molsky! The duo’s music is the joyful confluence of a wide swath of cultures through their unique lens on fiddle, banjo, guitar, flutes, and Ale’s own version of the mandola (which features six string courses, quarter tone frets and a sound unlike any other.) Their reunion really is a deep musical conversation between two old friends whose tunes and songs have so much to say, to bring people together and to shine light on the things we have in common. Photo by: Cecil Sharp Bruce Molsky Grammy-nominated, described as “an absolute master” (No Depression), Molsky transports audiences to another time and place, with his authentic and personal interpretations of rarities from the Southern Appalachian songbook and other musical traditions from around the globe. Best known for his work on the fiddle, Bruce’s banjo, guitar and his distinctive, powerful vocals also resonate with listeners. His combination of technical virtuosity and relaxed conversational wit makes a concert hall feel like an intimate front porch gathering. Bruce's take on tradition has landed him in collaborations with some of the world's most highly respected players from roots to rock. He is a special guest on legend rocker Mark Knopfler’s recent CD, “Tracker.” His 1865 Songs of Hope & Home with Anonymous 4, was on Billboard’s top 10 for weeks. Along with Andy Irvine & Donal Lunny, Bruce is a founding member of the supergroup Mozaik, with three recordings. You can see Bruce on the BBC TV “Transatlantic Sessions” with Aly Bain and Jerry Douglas, and on “David Holt’s State of Music” on PBS. He stays active touring and recording with longtime collaborators Darol Anger, Tony Trischka and Mountain Drifters’ Allison de Groot. The July ’24 release of Lockdown Breakdown , Bruce & Darol Anger’s brand new duet fiddle record, is an important pit stop in their years-long trip of collaborating. They continue to love exploring and chasing a shared musical vision that changes and grows as they go, and has powered at least a couple of generations of listeners and players. The project features original compositions, significant vocal songs from America’s recent past, and traditional tunes from all over the world. February 2022 marked the long-anticipated release of Bruce’s solo guitar CD: “Everywhere You Go,” a coming-together of new interpretations and arrangements of a wide swath of tunes and songs performed in his own quirky and personal fingerstyle guitar. Bruce holds the title of “Visiting Scholar in the American Roots Music Program” at Berklee College of Music, where he is the go-to guy for the next generation of roots musicians. “Performing and teaching traditional music are the biggest things in my world. For me, being a musician isn’t a standalone thing; it informs everything I do in my life. It’s always been about being creative and being a part of something much bigger than myself, a link in the musical chain and part of the community of people who play it and love it.” —Bruce Molsky To learn more about Bruce Molsky: Visit his website here Photo by: Thorn Ullberg Ale Möller After more than 50 years of touring the world and more than 50 albums and 1200 registered compositions, acclaimed multi-musician Ale Möller is still a central figure on the Nordic folk- and world music scene in the search for new musical paths and expressions. Trying to list all the prizes and awards Ale Möller has received over the years is as impossible as listing all the instruments he masters. Multiple Grammy winner, certified legend and professor. He has received both royal medals and the Swedish government's Export Honor Award and is an internationally recognized artist with star status worldwide. In 2014, he was awarded the former Beatles producer George Martin's prestigious Sir George Martin Music Award and the heavy Lifetime Achievement Award shares Ale Möller, as the first artist in the Nordics, with names such as Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Odetta, Joan Baez and Harry Belafonte. What started with a trumpet and a youthful relationship with jazz continued in a passionate love affair with Greek folk music and then landed in a deep relationship with Nordic folk music. Ale Möller creates his own musical universe, known for his many projects and collaborations across genre and cultural boundaries. Regardless of the genre, Ale Möller works his way into the source code of the music he encounters and he obtains an almost unique legendary status for how he expanded the concept of folk and traditional music for decades. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No. But you will need to complete your free CitySwoon profile with the email you registered with eventbrite. We add this to the event list. So, simply login to CitySwoon.com and click the 'Im Here Now' button when you arrive. Easy! Can I update my registration information? Yes. Please do this on your CitySwoon.com profile. You may not be able to amend your gender. Please contact us if this is the case. Is my registration fee or ticket transferrable? You need to contact us to do this and we need at least 7 days notice. Is it ok if the name on my ticket or registration doesn't match the person who attends? No. But your Cityswoon profile must be registered with the same email you purchased your ticket. If you notice your gender is sold out, please add yourself to the waitlist directly on the CitySwoon website. Please also note that we can only book you into events that are within 2 years leeway (either side) of the advertised age range as per our terms & conditions. Milkweed Presents: Found Ancestry hosted by K. Iver | Open Book

Cultural Experiences
What unlikely source has nurtured you? K. Iver hosts a talk with Danez Smith, Eli Erlick, and Dorothy Chan about searching for lineage outside the families into which we are born: the mentor, the barber, the historical figure, the queer “uncle,” the unapologetic pop star. Together, they’ll explore how these sources can and do stitch belonging where it’s been severed. ABOUT THE SPEAKERS K. Iver is a nonbinary trans poet born in Mississippi. Their work has appeared in Boston Review, Gulf Coast, The Adroit, TriQuarterly , and elsewhere. They are the 2021-2022 Ronald Wallace Poetry Fellow for the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing and the recipient of the 2022 Helene Wurlitzer Foundation Residency Grant. They have a Ph.D. in Poetry at Florida State University. They live in Madison, Wisconsin. Dorothy Chan (she/they) is the author of five poetry collections, including Return of the Chinese Femme (Deep Vellum, 2024); BABE (Diode Editions, 2021), a 2022 finalist for the Sheila Margaret Motton Book Prize from the New England Poetry Club; Revenge of the Asian Woman (Diode Editions, 2019), a finalist for the 2023 Theodore Roethke Memorial Poetry Prize and the 2020 Lambda Literary Award in Bisexual Poetry; Attack of the Fifty-Foot Centerfold (Spork Press, 2018); and the chapbook, Chinatown Sonnets (New Delta Review, 2017), selected by Douglas Kearney for the 6th Annual New Delta Review Chapbook Contest. They are an Associate Professor of English at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Co-Founder and Editor in Chief of Honey Literary Inc., a 501(c)(3) BIPOC literary arts organization. Chan was a 2022 recipient of the University of Wisconsin System’s Dr. P.B. Poorman Award for Outstanding Achievement on Behalf of LGBTQ+ People. Chan’s work has appeared or is forthcoming in The Best American Poetry 2025, The American Poetry Review , The Academy of American Poets’ Poem-a-Day , Poetry Society of America, Literary Hub , Electric Literature , and elsewhere. Visit their website at dorothypoetry.com Eli Erlick is an internationally acclaimed author, activist, and educator. In 2011, she founded Trans Student Educational Resources (TSER), a national organization dedicated to transforming the educational environment for trans students. Her first book, Before Gender: Lost Stories from Trans History, 1850-1950 (Beacon Press/Manchester University Press), narrates the astonishing lives of 30 trans people who radically change common conceptions about transgender history. Her forthcoming book, Belonging Through Exclusion: Understanding the Transgender Far-Right (University of Chicago Press) describes how right-wing transgender people adopted their views – and how we might prevent others from joining them. Blending innovative research with cutting-edge activism, she undertook her Ph.D. research at the University of California, Santa Cruz. Erlick’s work has been featured in hundreds of outlets including The New York Times, Time Magazine, and The Washington Post. Learn more at www.elierlick.com . Danez Smith is the author of four poetry collections: [insert] boy, Don’t Call Us Dead , Homie , and, most recently, Bluff . Sophisticated Simplicity Our events offer a fresh alternative to speed dating and matchmaking. We don't find anything romantic about whistles, name-tags or over-the-top party trimmings typically found at singles events so we have done away with them. Creating an atmosphere that is at once casual and comfortable. It's what we call cheeky-chic! Meet a partner to attend concerts, music festivals, bar crawls or fitness classes. Someone who shares your passions and interests - from sports to yoga - all in a setting just your speed. - Upon registration, you'll be sent an email inviting you to login to your mobile MyCheekyDate ‘Smart-Card’. As the event begins, login to your scorecard and let the flirting begin.
