Maddie Morris and Lunatraktors Live at All Hallows Leeds | All Hallows Church & Community Projects

Jun 21, 2025 (UTC+1)
Leeds
Arts
Maddie Morris and Lunatraktors double headline tour reaches Leeds. Maddie Maddie Morris is an artist who strives to make a difference in the world. Bold, insightful and refreshingly unique, they take traditional song in new directions to shine a light on contemporary issues. Folk songs have always told stories, but how Maddie makes their mark is by turning this storytelling into action. Described by Jim Moray as “leading the next generation of socially conscious songwriters”, they use their work to highlight inequality, challenge viewpoints and provide an inclusive space for shared experiences. Whether they’re turning a centuries-old ballad on its head or writing something new, Maddie places their focus on drawing out true meaning rather than being true to tradition. Their debut studio album, Skin, (release February 2024) is a beautifully crafted collection of songs which amplifies the stories of those often marginalised by society. Passionately political, yet gently understated, this is music that deftly treads the path between art and activism. Lunatraktors Lunatraktors is a collaboration between artist, choreographer and percussionist Carli Jefferson (she/her), and artist, vocalist and researcher Clair Le Couteur (they/them). The project started in 2017 with the post-apocalyptic question: what's left when we've lost everything? Stripping folk song down to the bare bones, Lunatraktors’ 'broken folk' blends Le Couteur’s overtone singing and 3+ octave range with the hybrid of tap dance, flamenco and body percussion that Jefferson developed after touring with STOMP (2001-2004). The pair turned heads when their DIY debut This Is Broken Folk – percussion and vocals recorded live in a viaduct arch by Ramsgate harbour – made MOJO Magazine's Top Ten Folk Albums of 2019. Jefferson’s compulsion to dance while drumming prompted Lunatraktors to assemble a tonal percussion kit, providing both rhythm and melody. Added resonances come from Le Couteur’s free-reed instruments, whistles and analogue synth. Reimagining Anglo-Celtic folk through a shared teenage absorption in jungle, drum’n’bass, triphop, art rock and post-punk, Lunatraktors have built up a passionate fan base at festivals, galleries, museums, theatres and queer cabarets. A double act in the old fashioned sense, Jefferson’s hyper-expressive performance style meets Le Couteur’s channelled voices of multiple tragicomic characters. Second album The Missing Star was #2 in MOJO Magazine’s Top Ten Folk Albums of 2021. Recent commissions include: Ten Songs for a Lar; Invisible Worlds (UCL, National Trust); a British Music Collection LGBTQ+ Composer Award; and ‘Beyond the Binary’ – exploring gender expression in Music Hall, Pantomime and Variety (Kent Library Archives). About the Venue All Hallows Leeds has a strong reputation as a Queer friendly space. The building is all on one level giving good access for people with mobility issues, There is a large wheelchair accessible toilet (labelled as all gender) as well as other toilets. The room is usually all seated but should have space to get up and move around, seats in rows but expect a couple of sofas at the back of the room. Bar details will be added nearer the time (i.e. once we know what we are doing ) There is a small carpark at the front of the venue but if you need park directly next to the door please do message in advance. ] The gigs are organised by a small number of friends who are passionate about music, we only put on 2 or 3 gig a year for acts we absolutely love. Anyone with access questions please do message and we will answer and do our best to accommodate. Information Source: LIVE AT ALL HALLOWS | eventbrite

Different ways of getting together serve different purposes. ConnectUp is your chance to explore, find what works for you, and meet the people already making it happen. And of course, this is the North. So expect warmth, grit, big ideas, good biscuits, and a room full of talent from Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield, Hull, Newcastle and beyond. The Jesmonite Christmas Workshop - Table & Tree Decorations w/ Objectify | Red Kite Shadwell

Nov 15, 2025 (UTC+1)
Leeds
Cultural Experiences
WHAT ARE WE GOING TO BE DOING? In this 2-hour workshop you will be taught step by step, with demos showing how to create five individual Jesmonite Christmas home decorations: two candlestick holders, a medium pot for a pillar candle or Christmas plant, and two Christmas tree decorations. Your pot and candlestick holders could form part of your Christmas dinner table setting – and they also look great on the mantlepiece! You can literally use any colour combinations, and go glitzy with gold or silver foil, understated with gold or silver pigment powder and terrazzo chips, or muted with your favourite Christmas colours – it’s up to you! First, you will practise techniques on two small Christmas tree decorations, then you’ll move onto the candlestick holders and pot, using marbling, block colour and terrazzo effects. The pot measures 8cm high x 8cm diameter. Accompanied children welcome. All materials for each process are provided so you don't have to bring anything other than yourself & potentially an apron/large shirt if you want to keep your clothes clean - Jesmonite washes out in the washing machine but it can be a messy process and if you have plans after the workshop you may want to avoid the temporary marks! Best of all, because Jesmonite is quick to set, you will be able to take your creations home with you at the end of the workshop! TO SUMMARISE - Easy step by step guidance to make your own items - materials are all provided. - Add your personal touch and creativity using various colours. - Take your creations home at the end of the session, keep for yourself or give it to someone special. - Group size max 10 people. - Jesmonite kits will be available to purchase at the workshops for any attendees who may want to continue their experimentation or give the kit as a gift to someone! If you have any queries or concerns, please contact us at objectifyjesmonite@gmail.com, we will get back to you swiftly & do our best to respond in depth. WHAT IS JESMONITE? Jesmonite is a non-toxic, eco-friendly, water-based resin used to create many kinds of decorative homeware, art, furniture & more! It comes as a two-part separated mix of powder & liquid which at 1-2.5 ratio is mixed together to form a milky mixture. Naturally Jesmonite has an off-white colour to it, so coloured pigments are used to give tone & hue to the mixture which is then poured into silicone moulds, where it cures & becomes a beautifully, unique item! Refund Policy for Workshops with objectify co Cancellations up to 28 days before the event: I will refund the ticket price, minus the Eventbrite fee (approx. 11% of the ticket price), or will transfer your booking to a future event, if available. Cancellations less than 14 days before the event: no refund or transfer. Note: I’m a small business owner whose income depends entirely on workshops and markets. My events are small-scale and my costs and time invested remain the same whether the workshop is full or not. I always advertise my events with plenty of time to promote and sell tickets – and tickets tend to sell in the first week of publication. I want try to strike a balance between being fair to participants, and not selling myself short or ending up making a financial loss. That’s why I don’t refund tickets within 14 days of an event, as it’s very unlikely I will be able to resell the ticket at short notice. Thank you for your understanding and for supporting small businesses. Information Source: Gaby from - objectify | eventbrite
