Notes in a glass - Márai - Dohnányi - Tokaji | Insole Court
Apr 11, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Cardiff
Catherine Dyson & Katinka KürtiA Night of Literary & Musical Improvisation with Tokaji WineStep into the enchanting halls of Insole Court this April 11, where literature, music, and fine wine intertwine in a unique and intimate evening. At the heart of the event is a theatrical reading inspired by Sándor Márai’s masterpiece, Embers (Gyertyák csonkig égnek)—a novel of memory, love, betrayal, and the relentless passage of time. Though Márai remains a hidden gem in the English-speaking world, he was one of the most profound voices of 20th-century European literature, a chronicler of fading aristocracies and the secrets that haunt us. Accomplished performer Catherine Dyson will bring his words to life in a dramatic and immersive reading, capturing the novel’s emotional depth and intensity. The spoken word is seamlessly interwoven with live music, as virtuoso flautist Katinka Kürti improvises around the themes of Ernst von Dohnányi, the Hungarian composer-pianist whose work bridged Romanticism and modernism. His lush harmonies and intimate musical language provide the perfect counterpoint to Márai’s piercing prose. To complete the experience, the evening features a curated Tokaji wine tasting—a nod to Hungary’s most legendary wine region, once the choice of European royalty and still one of the world’s most exquisite dessert wines. This exclusive event is set in the intimate, atmospheric chamber of Insole Court, offering a rare opportunity to experience a fusion of literature, live music, and fine wine in an elegant historic setting. A must for lovers of the arts, connoisseurs of classical and contemporary music, and those who appreciate the finer things in life. Seats are limited—secure your ticket now.
