Times Square New Year's Eve ball drop | New York
12月31日 (UTC-5)ENDED
New York
Revelers begin arriving in the late afternoon of New Year's Eve. At approximately 3:00 PM, the bowtie section of Times Square (42nd to 47th Streets between Broadway and Seventh Avenue) will be completely closed to traffic. The NYPD instructs revelers to gather in different viewing areas. When one area fills up, police direct revelers to the next viewing area. As the night progresses, revelers continue to pour into Times Square along Broadway and Seventh Avenue and move downtown from 43rd Street as far as Central Park. If you plan to come to Times Square to attend the festivities, it is recommended that you enter from Sixth or Eighth Avenue. The earlier you arrive, the better your chances of getting a viewing spot near the ball (Broadway and 43rd Street). As the crowds pour north, police will block off those blocks one by one as they deem necessary. The best places to view the ball are along Broadway from 43rd to 50th Streets, and Seventh Avenue as far north as 59th Street, so arrive early to get the best spot.
The celebration begins with the lighting and raising of the New Year’s Eve Ball atop One Times Square. The ball lights up at 6:00 PM and begins to rise, accompanied by special pyrotechnic effects. Then, the bright red-clad Times Square Alliance cleaning crew begins handing out tens of thousands of fun party favors—those famous hats, glasses, and noisemakers—to Times Square revelers to help celebrate the new year.
Don’t forget one of the best parts of New Year’s in Times Square—the New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Show! At around 8 PM, the stage comes alive with performances from some of your favorite musical guests. This year’s host will be national TV and radio star Allison Hagendorf. The farewell show for 2019 will be performed by pop diva Taylor Swift!
Sixty seconds before the big moment, the New Year’s Eve Ball begins to descend. At the stroke of midnight, the lights on the ball go down and the New Year’s numbers, “2019,” shine over Times Square. The world-famous New Year's confetti falls from the rooftops of Times Square buildings, creating a colorful blizzard of celebration, while revelers welcome the New Year amidst a colorful fireworks display.
