The Institute of Contemporary Art and the Stuart Weitzman School at the University of Pennsylvania are thrilled to present a lecture by Kameelah Janan Rasheed, an esteemed artist and writer based in Brooklyn. This lecture is part of the ICA and Weitzman School of Design Lecture Series, which brings together influential artists, activists, writers, and disruptors whose work explores the social and cultural themes of our time. Rasheed's practice delves into the profound intersection of poetics, pleasures, and politics in the realm of Black knowledge production, information technologies, learning, and belief formation. Kameelah Janan Rasheed is an accomplished artist and writer who has received several prestigious awards, including the 2022 Schering Stiftung Award for Artistic Research, the 2022 Creative Capital Award, the 2022 Betty Parsons Fellow – Artists2Artists Art Matters Award, the 2022 Artists + Machine Intelligence Grants - Experiments with Google, and the 2021 Guggenheim Fellowship in Fine Arts. She is also the author of five captivating artist's books, including "in the coherence, we weep," "i am not done yet," "An Alphabetical Accumulation of Approximate Observations," "No New Theories," and the digital publication "Scoring the Stacks." Rasheed's work has been featured in esteemed publications such as Triple Canopy, The New Inquiry, Shift Space, Active Cultures, and The Believer. She is an adjunct instructor at the Cooper Union and a Critic at Yale School of Art, Sculpture, as well as an instructor at the School for Poetic Computation.
