This exciting partnership between Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition, San José Conservation Corps + Charter School, and Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful offers an intermediate-level group ride to enhance the beauty of the bike path. Trails provide a peaceful escape from busy streets, but they require maintenance to stay in top condition. This ride gives participants the opportunity to learn from the dedicated staff of SVBC, SJ Conservation Corps, and Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful, who work tirelessly to ensure a healthy and clean Coyote Creek.
San José Conservation Corps, a pioneering urban conservation corps, has made a significant impact by educating and training over 10,000 young individuals since its establishment in 1987. Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful, a leading environmental non-profit, was founded in 2015 to promote the well-being of the vibrant Coyote Creek watershed.
To participate, bring your bike, closed-toed shoes, and clothes that can handle a bit of dirt. If possible, bring a bike trailer too! The plan is to meet at 2650 Senter Road at 8:30 AM to gather trail maintenance gear and learn about SJCC's Trail Work. From there, we will ride along urban streets to the Coyote Creek Trail. Please be prepared for busy streets with bike lanes by wearing high-visibility colors and a helmet.
During the ride, we will also have the opportunity to help clean up a section of the Coyote Creek Trail, gaining firsthand experience of the responsibilities of SJCC and KCCB staff. The route may cover up to 15 miles, incorporating both trails and city streets, making this an intermediate-level ride.
If you're interested in volunteering as a Ride Leader, you can register when getting your ticket. Ride Leaders will wear a vest and receive training in Ride Leadership. Volunteers are expected to arrive no later than 8:15 AM.

SVBC Basic Bike Repair (VTA) is an informative workshop presented by the Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition (SVBC). This in-person event is designed to teach attendees the essential skills needed for basic bike repair. Participants will gain practical knowledge on three key areas: Air, Brakes, and Chain/Cassette. The workshop will cover essential topics such as fixing a flat tire, determining the correct air pressure for your tires, and removing and replacing wheels. Additionally, participants will learn to diagnose and make necessary adjustments to their brakes, as well as how to ensure smooth and quiet movement of their chain across the cassette and chainrings. The workshop will also address other related issues as time permits. This 2.5-hour class welcomes individuals aged 14 and above, and it is highly encouraged to bring your own bike to work on during the session. Past attendees have praised the workshop for its hands-on approach, with one participant expressing satisfaction in being able to practice tube patching. Another attendee felt more confident in their ability to fix their bike, which ultimately led to increased cycling. The workshop also raised awareness about the importance of regular maintenance and prompted some participants to invest in new tools to keep their rides in optimal condition. SVBC Basic Bike Repair (VTA) is provided free of charge to the public, thanks to funding from the 2016 Measure B, courtesy of VTA. However, each participant's absence represents a wasted cost of approximately $150, funded by taxpayers, as resources cannot be recovered. Therefore, it is essential to honor your commitment and attend the workshop if you sign up. Attendees can look forward to receiving a patch kit and a set of tire levers as a token of appreciation.
