Since graduating from Connecticut College, Audrey has had the pleasure of performing throughout New York and New England in work by Jimena Bermejo, Peter DiMuro, griffindance, Heidi Henderson, Grant Jacoby, Annie Kloppenberg, Betsy Miller, Ruckus Dance, and shovegentlydance. Audrey's own work has been presented through Green Street Studio's New Works program, The Dance Complex's aMaSSiT program, as part of DanceNOW Boston at ART's Oberon, and was featured on CPTV's Spotlight on the Arts. In the spring of 2016 she co-produced and curated an evening of short dance/performance work titled Dance Shorts which brought together eight Boston-area choreographers. Aside from her own choreographic pursuits, Audrey has served in administrative roles for The Dance Complex, Green Street Studios, and Moving Target Boston. Audrey has also been a guest teacher in both technique and composition classes at: The College of the Holy Cross, Berklee College of Music, Moving Target Portland, Moving Target Boston, Rising Tide Charter School, and Wilmington Dance Academy. ALEXANDRIA NUNWEILER is a contemporary choreographer, performer, administrator and educator based in Boston, MA. Her movement, described by Dance Informa as “grace with power,” is rooted in history, human experience, and the fine line between darkness and humor. Alexandria earned her B.A. in Dance from Winthrop University where her thesis “Valhallveien” represented the university at the American College Dance Festival Southeast in 2014. She also holds her MSc in International Business from Hult International Business School, studying in both Boston, MA and Shanghai, China. As an educator, Alexandria holds space for intuitive learning and dives deeply into improvisation as a mode of movement understanding. She currently teaches at Creative Steps Dance Studio in Newton, MA and is a recurring guest artist at Dance Theatre of Greenville in South Carolina. Alexandria also holds her 200 RYT which she brings into both the yoga and dance practice spaces as a framework for how she shows up. About The Click: Developed in 2021, The Click is a collaborative dance company and creative collective in Greater Boston. Its members are dancers whose primary medium of physical expression is through contemporary dance forms, but who experiment in many modes and genres of creativity. Community Contemporary is rooted in The Click's mission to redefine rigor. Yes: dance can be highly technical and physically demanding. And yes: art can be very intellectual and nuanced. But most importantly: contemporary forms can be all of this, and more... and we can have FUN while we explore all of it. That is the type of rigor we are looking for. Community Contemporary is an opportunity for all levels of movers to dive into improvisation, technique, and play while fostering relationships new and old, thus creating and/or expanding their creative community. If you are looking for a supportive environment to animate and excite the tiny inner child dancer within you: this class is it, regardless of your prior experience with dance. This class series will be taught by Angelina Benitez. Angie's class is equal parts technical and improvisational exploration. Class will often begin with a guided warm up designed to loosen up the body and the creative juices. Participants will generate movement through games and exercises while questioning: how can we value play in our training? The Faraway Nearby follows the tragic life of pioneer physicist Joseph Weber, whose pursuit of gravitational waves takes him on a dizzying journey from the height of acclaim to the depths of despair and disdain when he breaks the cardinal rule of science and clings to his ideas though his results can't be duplicated. Physicists, artists, and other creatives explore the emotional side of discovery and question whether the risk is worth the journey. At the intersection of art and science, The Faraway Nearby illustrates Joe Weber’s struggle to be the first to ‘hear’ gravitational waves in space, a passion that consumed him until his death. It is a story of self sacrifice and the pioneering spirit, featuring interviews with Nobel Laureates Kip Thorne and Rai Weiss, astrophysicists Nergis Mavalvala and Rana Adhikari, psychologist Steven Pinker, and many others. Weber was a brilliant but misunderstood thinker who took astronomy to new heights through determination and creativity. About the speakers: Paula Froehle- Director A film director, visual artist, educator and entrepreneur, Paula has had a long and notable career in the arts, education, and entrepreneurship. As Co-founder & CEO of Chicago Media Project, she guides 50+ members in the philanthropic support of social impact documentary films. In addition to CMP, she oversees the CMP Invest/Impact & CMPAC equity funds, which provide equity investments in documentary films with commercial appeal. Paula is a member of the Gamechanger film fund, whose mission is to finance and produce feature films directed by women. In the field of education Paula has developed and implemented unique curricula in media, the arts and impact at the graduate and undergraduate level, most recently for Saybrook University where she launched a Social Impact Media Specialization within their Transformative Social Change MA degree program. Prior to co-founding CMP, Paula was the Founding Academic Dean of Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy (TFA), where she developed and implemented an intensive, immersive BA degree program in filmmaking, recording arts, graphic design, animation, and game design. What is Creative Youth Council? Designed for and with young people aged 14-18. All sessions are free and take place on the second Saturday of every month, 12-4pm. We invite young people to develop new creative projects and events, with the chance to roam our fields, use our ceramics and recording studio and work with artists on lots of different projects. You could create a new podcast or soundscape, make clay sculptures, or develop new events and festivals, at Wysing, for other young people across Cambridgeshire to enjoy. Offred’s Sisters: Feminist dystopias before and after The Handmaid’s Tale The figure of the red-cloaked Handmaid has become a widely recognized icon following the success of the HULU series based on The Handmaid’s Tale and the use of handmaid costumes by #MeToo protesters. Atwood’s 1985 novel was published to great acclaim and is now recognized as a classic of literary science fiction. The Handmaid’s Tale was by no means the first example of a feminist dystopia – a chilling early example is Katharine Burdekin’s Swastika Night (1937) which imagined what the fate of women would be in a far-future Nazi regime. But Atwood’s novel has certainly inspired a host of imitators – recent feminist dystopias include Christina Dalcher’s Vox (2018), Bina Shah’s Before She Sleeps (2018) and Sophie Mackintosh’s Blue Ticket (2020). Nearly all – following in Atwood’s footsteps – are united by a preoccupation with the control of women’s sexuality and the denial of reproductive rights. What drives the continuing popularity of these often disturbing novels – and what might they reveal about society today? Professor Sarah Annes Brown teaches English Literature at Anglia Ruskin University. She has published widely on the influence of the Roman poet Ovid on English literature and on adaptations of Shakespeare. Her most recent book is Shakespeare and Science Fiction (Liverpool University Press, 2021), and she is currently working on a book for Routledge, Engagements with Science Fiction. Join Ensemble Altera, a chamber choir of seamless ensemble perfection (Boston Musical Intelligencer), described by the BBC as something extraordinary , for an evening of Feminine Voices. Feminine Voices is a groundbreaking concert almost three years in the making, featuring the upper voices of Ensemble Altera and the exquisite artistry of harpist Li Shan Tan. Music by women composers has until very recently, shamefully, been a relative rarity in classical music. We applaud and wish to amplify the ongoing movement to redress this imbalance. In that spirit, our program includes music by eight different women: Hildegard von Bingen, Imogen Holst, Germaine Tailleferre, Cecilia McDowall, Joanna Marsh, Barbara Strozzi, Elizabeth Poston, as well as a new commission for Ensemble Altera by Kerensa Briggs. Under the tutelage of prominent masters like Merche Esmeralda and El Güito, she has developed a wide repertoire of techniques and skills, blending her art with elements of circus and theater. At the age of 19, she began her professional career, combining her university studies with teaching flamenco in the United Kingdom and founding the group Nottingham Flamenquitas. She stood out in major productions such as A mi manera with the flamenco company Teatro Flamenco La Tati and as a solo dancer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Since 2017, with a creative talent established by winning 3rd prize in the Jóvenes Creadores Danza Madroño 2022, she has left an indelible mark on international stages such as Copenhagen, where her collaboration with circus artist Villads Bugge Bang has led to innovative performances blending flamenco, body percussion, and physical theater. Rebeca continues to explore new artistic horizons, participating in projects that fuse flamenco with other forms of cultural expression, such as her recent collaboration with the famous band PATAX, where she blends Michael Jackson's movements with flamenco, or in the production KALASETU in London, a show that combines traditional flamenco art with classical Indian music and dance. Her passion and versatility have established her as a prominent figure in the current flamenco scene. RAMÓN RUIZ Ramon Ruiz is UK’s leading flamenco guitarist. He shares his art and passion for flamenco with everyone who is curious, appreciating a wonderfully diverse and interesting following. Born in Granada and trained in Seville’s renowned flamenco tablao ‘Los Gallos’, by generation of world famous flamenco artists who are no longer with us, Ruiz continues developing his art from London, although Andalusia will always be his home. As a highly sought after flamenco guitarist, composer, recording artist and teacher Ramon is very busy. He is a regular guest on BBC Radio 3 along with top UK venues including The London Jazz Cafe, each time producing something new for his audience. With extraordinary dexterity and musicality in both traditional and contemporary stylistic genres, Ramón recently recorded his third album “ Calle Lunga” in Abbey Road Studio. It includes all original compositions and arrangements. Calle Lunga was inspired by Ruiz’s journey of nearly 40 years mastering flamenco guitar internationally. His music beautifully expresses complex emotion, mastery and maturity in both composition and performance. NATALIA MARÍN Sevillian-born with a distinguished career, she has performed at top clubs, tablaos, flamenco festivals, and theaters both nationally and internationally. Notably, she participated in the Flamenco Biennial and festivals in Tomares, Pilas, and Coria del Río. She has also appeared in prominent tablaos like Los Gallos, Casa Carmen, and the Museo del Baile Flamenco in Seville. Her television appearances include “La Llama Viva” and “El Musical” on Canal Sur, and she was a contestant on TVE’s GENTE DE PRIMERA. Natalia has shared the stage with renowned artists such as José de la Tomasa, Jesús Heredia, and La Paquera de Jerez, and has been accompanied by distinguished musicians like Manolo Franco and Tomatito. She has also sung for prominent dancers including Javier Barón, Antonio Márquez, and Lola Greco.Since 1998, she has been a regular performer in Yoko Komatsubara's company, featuring in major productions like Solo Flamenco and Carmen, and performing in prestigious theaters worldwide, including in Tokyo, New York, Singapore, and Madrid. Looking for some soothing weekend plans? Join us for our weekly Sunday morning brewery yoga class at Lamplighter Brewing Co.'s Cambridge Crossing (CX) taproom. We'll gather in the light-filled upstairs taproom for a gentle, all-levels flow. Space is limited, and reservations are required. All yoga levels are welcome! This class is great for beginners, as well as for experienced yogis. We'll lead you through a guided flow with a focus on stretching, breathing, and light activity - you might work up a light sweat, but nothing too strenuous. Please plan on bringing your own yoga mat. If you don't have a mat, a large beach towel works as well. The class takes place in our upstairs taproom at Lamplighter Brewing Co.'s CX location (110 N First St, Cambridge MA). Your ticket includes full access to the yoga class as well as a beer, cold brew coffee, or kombucha.
