You're invited to the October edition of Humanities in the Village, an event series in partnership with the Alexander Grass Humanities Institute at Johns Hopkins University, which aims to make scholarship publicly accessible. This month, the series features Dr. Peter Pomerantsev, author of How to Win an Information War: The Propagandist Who Outwitted Hitler. Investigative journalist Dave Troy will join Dr. Peter Pomerantsev in conversation. Audience Q&A after the reading—all are welcome! Peter Pomerantsev is a senior fellow at Johns Hopkins University, where he co-directs the Arena Initiative. He is the author ofNothing is True and Everything is Possible: The Surreal Heart of the New Russia, which won the 2016 Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize, and ofThis is Not Propaganda: Adventures in the War Against Reality. Dave Troy is an investigative journalist addressing threats to democracy. His background as a technologist and as a student of history gives him a unique perspective on current events. He writes a newsletter about the bigger themes behind the news, does frequent public speaking, and hosts a podcast where he researches and explores the history behind current events. He also works with researchers from around the world to understand disinformation (paper) and other threats to democracy using network analysis and other methods.

Baltimore’s One Night Choir hosted by Charm City Sings: A Community Sing-Along Experience! Join Baltimore’s biggest community chorus for a special evening at The Winslow (inside Parker Metal Building) on October 29th from 7-9 pm, where music and community come together in perfect harmony. Doors open at 6:30pm Event begins at 7:00pm First Half: Learn a New Song with us! As we kick off the evening, the stage opens up to YOU. In a laid-back, pressure-free environment, we invite you to learn a brand new song alongside Charm City Sings members. Participation is entirely up to you—feel free to rock out with us and join in singing or simply soak in the sounds around you. And if you’re in the Halloween spirit, come dressed in your favorite costume. Best-dressed goes home with a prize! Second Half: Charm City Sings performs! Charm City Sings rounds off the evening with selections from their upcoming concert program. Led by the inimitable Heidi Ackerman, you know there's going to be great music to listen to while you enjoy a craft brew by M8 Beer! Grand Finale! We all raise our voices together in one final performance of our surprise song we learned during the first half. Charm City Sings is a non-auditioned choir that thrives on the passion of music-lovers from all walks of life. We meet on Tuesday nights in Highlandtown and perform a wide variety of music across the city. It's the self-help book Meghan wished she'd had from the start--a deeply researched, encouraging guide to bridging the gap between knowing that being single is awesome and feeling and embodying it. We're so excited that Andrew Limbong, host of NPR's Book of the Day podcast, will join Keane in conversation.
