Jules de Corte (1924 – 1996) was musicus, tekstdichter en zanger. Zeg maar: ‘een singer-songwriter’ van zijn tijd. Bij het grote publiek werd hij vooral bekend door liedjes als ‘Ik zou wel eens willen weten’ en ‘De vogels’. Hij trad veertig jaar op voor radio en televisie, in theaters, in kroegen en gevangenissen. Zoon Ernst de Corte had een moeizame relatie met zijn vader. ‘Inmiddels bewonder ik zijn werk maar ik heb het mijn vader lang kwalijk genomen dat hij zijn gezin in de steek liet. Ons contact was daarom een tijd minimaal.’ Net toen zijn vader en hij weer in gesprek waren geraakt werd Jules de Corte ziek en overleed hij. Hartklachten waren de Corte te veel geworden. Hij werd 71 jaar. ‘Intussen ben ik zijn muziek goed gaan beluisteren en ben ik het ook gaan waarderen’, zegt Ernst de Corte. ‘Speurend door de drieduizend liedjes die Jules schreef, zocht ik naar wat hij nog meer te vertellen had. Zo heb ik hem beter leren kennen. Op veel dingen die ik nog aan hem wilde vragen vond ik het antwoord in zijn teksten. Het is een voorrecht dat ik hem door zijn werk nog een beetje tevoorschijn kan halen.’ Zonde om die liedjes te laten verstoffen, vindt Ernst. ‘Als je niet oppast raakt Jules’ repertoire vergeten en verdwenen.’ Daarom treedt Ernst op in het land om het werk van zijn vader opnieuw onder de aandacht van het publiek te brengen. ‘Ik selecteerde vooral nummers die ook in deze tijd passen. Met drieduizend liedjes is er keuze genoeg.’ In zijn concertreeks zingt en speelt Ernst een mix van vrolijk werk en verdiepend repertoire. Hij wordt ­begeleid door pianist Izak Boom en bassist Pieter Althuis.
