Experimental Life Drawing Day WorkshopAlongside our weekly untutored class in Stokes Croft, this Autumn, artist and teacher Beth Kirby is also running a series of tutored evening classes and weekend workshops to experiement with drawing, and refine your skills. This class is about expanding your practice around drawing the figure, and drawing in general. We will be moving through a series of approaches and techniques to connect with drawing the figure in new an exciting ways. Some will be challenging, some will be abstract but all we be designed to help you look at drawing in a different way, exploring by yourself and under guidance throughout the day. Every level of artist is welcome, from beginners onwards. It's especially great for those who already have some level of skill but who wish to experiment or loosen up, as I intend to turn drawing on its head a little bit, get messy, and nurture your artistic approach. If you're looking for more of an intro on how to draw a figure, consider my evening workshop instead. The EssentialsThe sessions run on Sundays, from 11am - 4pm. There will be an an hour break for lunch between 1-2pm. The class is at Hamilton House, Stokes Croft, Bristol.ALL abilities welcome, even if you've never picked up a pencil before!We will be using a range of materials including ink, charcoal, graphite and pencils. Gena has transformed lives, inspired social action and created change with her music and work, including the set up of the Windrush Reggae and One Love Choirs. Each year Spike Island offers fellowships to promising artists based in Bristol. Artists are selected from an open call and offered studio space at Spike Island, access to our facilities, support from our programme team and free membership to Spike Island Associates for the year. This opportunity aims to support and encourage artists in Bristol as they develop their professional practices. We are excited to introduce our Graduate Fellows for 2024–25: Alice Farrington (UWE Bristol), Amy Coaten (UWE Bristol), Hannah Hornby (UWE Bristol) and Libby Bove (Bath Spa University). They are joined by the 2024–25 Dreamtime Fellow, Alexis Over Papatzaneteas. The Dreamtime Fellowship is a programme funded and supported by established Bristol-based artist Luke Jerram. This event sees our new Fellows introduce themselves and their practices, alongside our outgoing Graduate Fellows 2023–24: Lolly Deazley (UWE Bristol), Harry Judge (UWE Bristol), Max Silliton (UWE Bristol) and Lola Bennett (Bath Spa University), as well as Lou Baker, the 2023–24 Dreamtime Fellow. They share the work they have produced during their Fellowship at Spike Island as well as their aspirations for the future. Scissors, coloured paper, and Prit sticks will be provided 17:00.-18.30 Untutored life drawing. Then, have a go at using scissors to draw or just draw the model. Let your creativity flow as you capture the human form in all its beauty. BRING - Scissors & Glue. Collect up paper, newspaper magazines coloured paper to cut.
