De tentoonstelling Cruquius: experiment en ontwerpplezier vertelt het verhaal van vier pioniersgebouwen op het Cruquiuseiland, ontworpen door LEVS architecten. Het Cruquiuseiland is het laatste eiland in het Oostelijk Havengebied dat getransformeerd wordt tot een stedelijke woonwijk. Het gebied ontpopte zich tijdens de economische crisis vanaf 2008 tot een stedenbouwkundige en architectonische ‘testsite’ waar - zonder vastomlijnd stedenbouwkundig plan - een nieuw stuk stad is verrezen. LEVS kreeg de kans om op onconventionele wijze na te denken over wonen, werken en samenleven in de stad. Het resultaat is een viertal opmerkelijke woongebouwen die het belang tonen van experiment en ontwerpplezier: De Bocht, De Loods, 2Peer en Harbour Club. REBORN Expo by BLACKROCKSTAR pt.II Rivelino Rigters presents: REBORN by BLACKROCKSTAR pt.II In the successful initiative called 'Share The Stage', the creative agency TBWA\NEBOKO makes its knowledge, resources and workspace available to creative talent who normally do not have access to such resources. This program, which includes both a workplace and an exhibition space, was created to increase diversity within the creative industries. Rivelino Rigters, a passionate artist, talent coach and writer from Amsterdam-West with roots in Suriname, is the sixth participant whose work will be exhibited at The Arcade Hotel. Rivelino, also known as Blackrockstar, who advocates for youth in- and out of detention through music, visual art and life stories, sees The Arcade Hotel as a great platform to share his mission and message with others to get inspired! The exhibition, with a special listening session of his 2nd single Power , scheduled for September 27th, will focus on his personal struggle and recovery from kidney disease. His work illustrates the importance of creativity as a means of self-healing and social contribution. Al visualized in 6 invoking Images. At the opening and afterwards special Tees + Totebags will be available of which al proceeds will go to the Dutch Kidney Foundation. “With my art I want to bridge the gap between pain and recovery, and show that someone's past does not have to determine their future,” he says. A personal element in this project is the collaboration with the Kidney Foundation. After overcoming kidney disease himself, Rivelino emphasizes the importance of awareness and healthy living. His experiences and the support he received from the Kidney Foundation underline the need to involve this organization in his project. Rivelino has also released a special first single called REBORN. OSCAM presents 'Arki/Skucha/Listen/Luister' van Roberto Tjon A Meeuw Surinamese visual artist Roberto Tjon-a-Meeuw presents a new radical installation and performance that questions the current dynamics between men and women. For the past twenty years, Tjon-a-Meeuw has been creating sculptures and installations rooted in environmentalism, using collected materials found in nature. Initially, he worked with discarded Surinamese wooden windows, doors, coral stone, and scrap metal. Over the last decade, he shifted his focus to the northern coast of Curaçao, where he collects washed-up plastic. He has carried kilos of plastic to new destinations, where he—often with the involvement of local communities or primary schools—built towering sculptures inspired by the underwater world. His goal: to raise awareness about society's plastic use. Princess Beatrix visited one of Tjon-a-Meeuw's colossal sculptures, The Government II, a giant fish, and heard his urgent call. Now, to further amplify his message, he presents a new radical installation and performance: “Arki/Skucha/Listen/Luister”. His message is clear: Women, take control because men, you've messed it up. Love, Deutschmarks and Death is a documentary by director Cem Kaya about the independent, and as of yet, unknown music of emigrated Turkish guest workers and their grandchildren in Germany. The German Federal Republic’s 1961 recruitment agreement with Turkey not only brought workers, but also their music. The stories of the band Derdiyoklar, Radio Yılmaz, protest rocker Cem Karaca’s German exile, and many more are testament to the unique liveliness of Turkish music in Germany. In a musical and essayistic form, Cem Kaya shares insights into the unique liveliness of this forgotten subculture. Cem Kaya is a filmmaker that uses extensive found footage and archive material of various kinds in his work. He assembles clips from feature films, commercials, tv documentaries and private footage into witty collages. This colourful mix of material and his own documentary observations are the ingredients for his extremely insightful, sometimes bizarre and often hilarious docu-essays. This album showcases a blend of sonatas by Claude Debussy and Francis Poulenc with contemporary works by Mathilde Wantenaar, Alisson Kruusmaa, and Joey Roukens. The title piece, Sarasvati by Roukens, is inspired by the ancient Sanskrit word for that which flows, referring to both a mythical river and the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, and water. This album celebrates the open-mindedness of these composers, whose mutual inspiration is reminiscent of waterdrops flowing into the sea and returning to form new streams. Duo Saraswati presentsSrikandi(Challenge Records) Duo Saraswati is a young and promising cello-piano duo. With their energetic playing, they highlight the strong connection between Indonesia and Europe. Through a challenging mix of repertoire, the duo seeks to bridge these two musical worlds. An example of this is combining songs by Mochtar Embut with the Sonata by Benjamin Britten. In a time when people often think in contrasts, the duo embraces their differences, because that is what defines them. This album represents the mutual inspiration of two different cultures that are actually closer than you might initially expect. The album's title is based on the song Srikandi, written by Mochtar Embut. Srikandi is a character from the Javanese legend Mahabharata.
