80 Urban Reality sheds light on the urban surroundings of Korea in the 1980s through the GanaArt Collection and other artworks collected by the Seoul Museum of Art (SeMA). GanaArt Collection refers to a total of 200 works donated to SeMA by Gana Art Center Chairman Lee Ho-jae in 2001. The collection encompasses works of the Minjung Art movement and of realism pieces that vigorously reflect the social reality of Korea in the 1980s and 1990s.

Lehmann Maupin is pleased to present “ongoin’,” a solo exhibition of new work by Nari Ward, in Seoul, from August 28 to October 19, 2024. This is Ward’s second exhibition in Seoul and features works on copper, sculpture, and wall installations that engage with aspects of healing and care that shape local communities, particularly in Harlem, the artist’s longtime residence in New York. Additionally, “ongoin’” explores the artist’s dedication to artistic interpretations of spiritual rituals and ceremonies, probing the fragmented images and invisible forces often associated with such practices. Ward is known for his sculptural wall and installation works created from materials often found and collected in Harlem. The artist combines these materials and reinterprets their original meanings, creating collages that confront complex social and political realities (often around race, immigration, democracy, and community) through the juxtaposition of literal and metaphorical.
