Rounders in Regents Park | Chester Road, Regents Park
Sep 29, 2024 (UTC+0)ENDED
London
Come join us for some fun in the park This is a weekly social park gathering with optional involvement in the sports. We will be playing rounders and mixed football. It's a great way to meet new people, we usually get 20-40 people coming every week. How to play rounders Not played rounders before? It's a traditional English sport for everyone, even the unsporty. Here's a video of us playing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6Bya3T5W3k Rounders is a bat and ball game similar to baseball played by two teams. Your team will be either fielding or batting before swapping after the innings. When batting, the aim is to hit the ball, then try and run around the four posts. Your team gets a rounder if you make it round the four posts without stopping or getting out. You are out if when you hit the ball someone catches the ball before it reaches the ground or someone stumps a post before you get there. The rules will be explained at the beginning of each meetup with a practice round at the beginning. We play a slightly modified version of the official rules where if you are out, it's not game over for you. Your team will lose a life instead. This will give everyone multiple opportunities to bat. It's very simple to pick up and the ball we use is very soft. We are very beginner friendly and the focus is on having fun rather than being competitive. We attract attendees of all ages and sporting level. You are welcome to come and watch only too. We usually have a few people who do so while having a picnic and enjoying the park. Come and meet us Meet at 2pm in Regents Park. Here is the map of where we will be playing in the park (Cumberland Green): https://www.socialsportsmix.co.uk/regents-park-football-and-rounders Please feel free to bring food and drinks. You can see who else is attending on our Meetup page Beginner friendly mixed football The main rounders game will finish at 3:30pm and this is followed by mixed gender football for those who want to join. We aim to have roughly equal numbers of men and women for every game. We especially welcome complete beginners and have a dedicated game for them. We will play for 60-90 minutes depending on how we all feel and there will be a half time. There is no pressure to stay for the entire event and you can leave early if you need to. If there is no Goalkeepers, players who are willing to go in goal will rotate every 8 mins. Our mixed football games are usually oversubscribed for men so football places are only guaranteed for those who are able to bring a woman or make a charity donation. Free or play for charity Our Sunday social and rounders events are free for everyone. The organisers volunteer their time and fund for the equipment, public liability insurance, marketing and meetup costs to make this happen. We would like our events to raise awareness and money for worthwhile charities. If you appreciate our events, please consider making a donation on our fundraising page. To donate and for more info, please visit: https://www.justgiving.com/page/social-sports-mix-warchild We will also promote fundraising pages suggested or owned by our attendees. Get in touch if you are attending and also charity fundraising.

London
After a successful Fringe Debut, Leeds-based Turnip Fish Theatre Company are bringing MY PRETTIES to LONDON! Agatha Flounders (Molly Traves) and Cassandra Nutter (Daisy Lyons) live in neighbouring flats. After having been “Double Rostered” on a date by sleazy, two-timing postman (CJ Jones), they form an unlikely friendship. Joining forces, they enter the magical smoothie making enterprise, and a bunch of “happy accidents” follow, leading to the turning of Fred and his delivery boy friends into trolls, bovines and ring doorbell salesmen. Meanwhile, Aggie and Cassie develop strange, warty facial features and a penchant for sporting pointy hats… This 3-hander, almost musical piece includes audience participation, a little bit of puppetry, and an original, X-rated score. It’s bonkers, it’s northern, it’s a bit of a trip.

Freud's 4pm Session: A Centenary Celebration of Ismond Rosen | Freud Museum London
Sep 29, 2024 (UTC+0)ENDED
London
A Centenary Celebration of Ismond RosenJoin us for a special event marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of the renowned psychoanalyst and sculptor, Ismond Rosen. This session will take the form of a discussion between Ruth Rosen and the Freud Museum's Director Giuseppe Albano. The conversation will explore Ismond Rosen’s unique legacy, which incorporates the worlds of both sculpture and psychoanalysis. There will also be an introduction to some of his art and ideas, followed by a Q&A session with the audience. Biography:
Born in Johannesburg and trained at the Wits Medical School, Ismond Rosen developed the first psychiatric outpatient clinic in this country, which, as the Paddington Clinic and Day Hospital, became the first psychoanalytical clinic in the NHS. An early innovator in the popular understanding of psychiatry and psychoanalysis, he worked on programmes such as Lifeline and Horizon. A Fellow of both the Royal College of Psychiatry and the Royal Society of Portrait Sculptors, Rosen was also a practicing artist who had trained in Paris, and his sculpture is to be found as far apart as the South Africa National Botanical Gardens, the Kreuzekirche, Berlin, and the Vatican Museums in Rome. “Call him what you will – renaissance man, polymath, genius – Ismond Rosen was by any standards an exceptionally gifted man. In his lifetime he was acknowledged as a distinguished psychoanalyst, an internationally acclaimed artist, a prolific writer, and an exemplary communicator in the fields both of radio and television. His election to the fellowship of both the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Society of Portrait Sculptors, for example, bears witness to the depth and diversity of his talents.”
— Henry R. Rollin, on Ismond Rosen, National Dictionary of Biography Complement your visit to the Freud Museum with one of our weekly tours or talks led by staff, volunteers and guest speakers. The talks are free with your admission ticket. Book your admission ticket now! The event will be held on the first floor of the Museum during regular opening hours.
