Event Title: Launch Event: 40th Anniversary Issue – Wasafiri 119: Futurisms When: Saturday 28 September, 5-6.30pm BST Where: The Studio, Museum of the Home Join us at the launch of our 40th Anniversary Issue, Wasafiri 119: Futurisms, on 28 September at the Museum of Home in London. This milestone issue brings to the fore writers whose perspectives – on the present and on the future – have historically been sidelined. From fragile and feminist futures, alternative and speculative futures, personal and planetary futures, the issue will showcase a branching network of writing on and around the power of persistence as resistance as we continue to imagine into being futures that defy an increasingly oppressive present. Contributors Malika Booker, Preti Taneja, and Annie Zaidi will treat the audience to readings from their work in the issue, followed by a short conversation with Wasafiri’s Editor and Publishing Director Sana Goyal. Copies of Wasafiri 119: Futurisms, alongside a selection of issues from our forty-year archive, will be on sale at the event. You can also purchase a print copy of Wasafiri 119: Futurisms via our website in advance of the launch event, or subscribe to the magazine. An art installation by Chila Kumari Singh Burman, 'Shiv Ji', is lit up on the Museum's green roof daily, from 9pm to 11pm. Chila Kumari Singh Burman's 'The Smile You Send Returns to You' (2024) graces the cover of our 40th Anniversary Issue, Wasafiri 119: Futurisms. Information Source: Wasafiri Magazine | eventbrite

Curator & Exhibition Talk - Michael Ormerod, Vanishing Point Join us for an in-depth conversation between photography curator and former gallerist Zelda Cheatle, British photographer Barry Lewis, and gallery director Richard Kalman. Together, they'll discuss the discovery of never-before-seen negatives from Ormerod's archive, themes throughout his work, and the legacy of one of the most incisive British photographers of the 20th century. It seems that everything my father did was intended to raise questions rather than insist on answers. Perhaps that is why the obsession with horizons, vanishing points and ends of the road are common themes throughout his work - Ali OrmerodMichael Ormerod's first exhibition took place at the eponymous Zelda Cheatle Gallery in London, shortly after his untimely passing in 1991. The exhibition coincided with the release of his first photobook, 'States of America'. One subsequent exhibition took place at the Sheffield Graves Art Gallery in 2003. We are delighted to announce that Michael Ormerod's second photobook will be published later this autumn by RRB Photobooks. Information Source: Crane Kalman Brighton Gallery | eventbrite

Book your free ticket for a curated tour of arebyte's current exhibition Fragments of a Panorama, led by curator Kinnari Saraiya. Fragments of a Panorama is a kaleidoscope of worlds oscillating between a speculative future and an alternative past, created by visual artist Thiruda (Avinash Kumar) and musician Murthovic (Sri Rama Murthy), and guest curated by Kinnari Saraiya. Since 2016, Murthovic and Thiruda have taken on the role of archivists for their ongoing project, Elsewhere in India, remixing and fragmenting millennia of South Asian cultural traditions, sonic and visual heritage, and classical dances of India. This initiative explores cultural heritage, digital technology, and speculative futures through film, interactive experiences, video games, and sculpture, with Fragments of a Panorama, presented by arebyte gallery, as a commissioned chapter within this broader exploration. The topology of Fragments of a Panorama is built on layers of destruction, construction, and reparation, connecting us to generations past and future. Through the malleability of space-time in virtual AI-rendered worlds, the exhibition introduces immersive experiences across various states and technological landscapes, transporting us to Elsewhere in India. Read more about the exhibition here. *** Elsewhere in India is a body of work that explores cultural heritage, digital technology, and speculative futures through film, interactive experiences, video games, and sculpture, created by artists Murthovic and Thiruda. Murthovic, the sound architect, blends traditional South Asian sounds with futuristic elements, creating immersive auditory landscapes that evoke nostalgia and anticipation. Thiruda, the creative director, integrates 3D video games, motion-captured dance, and AI-generated art, creating a cohesive, engaging experience. Their collaboration results in a rich, multi-layered narrative delving into India's past, present, and imagined futures, making Elsewhere in India a groundbreaking exploration of cultural preservation and innovation in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
