Improv for New Friends | The Social Capital Theatre

Jan 11, 2025 (UTC-5)ENDED
Toronto
Arts
Improv is a great medium to meet people. We create an atmosphere where we encourage people to be themselves, be positive, to get rid of judgement, to really listen and support each other. When we laugh, and play, the ego we want to project to people disappears and we open up, relax, and be ourselves. Participants will take part in a two-hour improv class with other people. Come and play with other adults. Play is incredibly important. It's one of the only times that we're truly present and living in the moment. Improv comedy uses several techniques to create laughter. These include, creating an atmosphere free of judgement, saying 'yes', active listening, being positive, putting your focus on others, and the importance of play and laughter. Not coincidentally, these are the same things that happen to us naturally when we are bonding with another person. In this class, we'll explore these techniques not with the goal of being funny, but with the goal of being people that other people want to be around. The teacher, Ralph MacLeod, is a co-founder of two independent improv clubs in Toronto - Bad Dog Theatre and Social Capital Theatre. He's been teaching improv for over 30 years. He also teaches these same techniques to several organizations including UofT, Google, Kraft, Shopify and many, many more. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have! Feel free to hang out afterwards and share a drink! Don't use Paypal? Having trouble purchasing? Email us at admin@socap.ca. Information Source: SoCap Comedy Theatre | eventbrite

One of the most distinctive, coveted and prolific voices in the genre, Robert has an illustrious career that started in late 80’s Chicago and has produced some of the greatest tracks house music has witnessed. Responsible for era-defining classics such as ‘Tears' alongside Frankie Knuckles & Satoshi Tomiie, ‘Bring Down The Walls’ with Larry Heard as part of Fingers Inc., as well as solo releases ‘I’ll Be Your Friend’ and ‘Mine To Give’ which hit number one on the Hot Dance Music / Club Play chart, Robert has created seminal records which you can comfortably bet will have a place on any house head’s all-time favourites list. After setting the standard during house's formative years, Robert has remained at the forefront of the genre, releasing on labels such as Dekmantel, Ninja Tune, Boysnoize, Circo Loco and HE. SHE. THEY, building an extensive discography of solo projects, as well as a catalogue of collaborations which reads like an electronic music hall of fame - Masters At Work, Jamie Jones, Soul Clap, Coldcut, Marshall Jefferson, Catz ’N Dogz, Ron Trent - the list goes on. What has set Robert apart throughout all these releases, is the raw emotion and passion he delivers into each and every vocal take, providing an uninhibited human touch to everything he works on. Lyrically too, we see an artist who is unashamed in his commitment to spreading the positive values of house music as a medium for self-expression, inclusivity and spiritual liberation. Robert’s unique live performances continue to deliver this message, spellbinding audiences across the world with distinctive DJ sets embellished by his live vocals - a format which pays testament both to his talent as a singer, and his extensive depth of musical knowledge and selections. As you settle into the cozy atmosphere, the aroma of freshly brewed chai envelops you, creating a warm and inviting space. During this ceremony, we’ll begin by grounding ourselves and centering our thoughts. Together, we’ll engage in guided manifestation practices, allowing you to channel your intentions and visualize the abundance, love, and success you wish to attract into your life. This is a time to connect deeply with your desires, setting the stage for positive energy and growth. As we pour and share the chai, each sip becomes a sacred act of intention. The rich flavors of the tea, infused with warming spices, enhance our connection to the moment and each other. Throughout the ceremony, we’ll create a supportive community, encouraging one another to align our hearts and minds while fostering a collective energy that amplifies our intentions. ☕️ The Chai Ceremony begins at 2:30pm sharp - So please arrive on time to make sure you get your delicious cup of Chai. ***Dairy free and sugar free options are available*** ***Disclaimer: Please be aware the spices used in the Chai may have been processed in a facility that handles nuts and other allergens.
