St Neots Sports Collective: Progress, Quick Wins, and Vision for the Future Building on the energy and collaboration from our first session, we’re excited to gather once again at the Citizen Hub to explore the 5 quick wins identified for driving sports development in St Neots. Together, we’ll take practical steps toward building a stronger sports community and ensuring that sports remain a vital part of the town’s future. Our focus will be on: Sport Directory: Enhancing visibility by creating a comprehensive directory of all local sports clubs. This resource will help clubs connect with more participants and volunteers, ensuring everyone in the community knows what’s available. Wintringham Development: We’ll discuss how to align future sports facilities with the town’s development plans, especially the new Wintringham project. This is a key opportunity to integrate sports into the town’s growth, ensuring facilities that support all levels of participation. Landing Page for the Collective: Unveiling the vision and goals for a centralised landing page that will serve as a hub for updates, resources, and the collective’s long-term plan. Multi-Sport Day Event: Planning a community-wide event to promote local clubs and encourage participation. This will give residents a chance to try different sports and build connections with local teams. Integration with Education: Strengthening ties between local schools and sports clubs to encourage youth involvement and long-term development. Before we get into that though, we are also thrilled to welcome Xavier Wiggins, co-founder of Sport Local Action and the Dons Local Action Group, as our special guest speaker. Xavier is renowned for using sport as a catalyst for community development and engagement, creating impactful initiatives across the UK. His insights will be invaluable as we look to bring positive change to our local sports ecosystem. Sport Local Action is a national organisation dedicated to harnessing the power of sport to enrich communities, tackle social issues, and drive positive change across the UK. He is also the Co-founder of Dons Local Action Group (DLAG), a grassroots charity that has provided food for over 6 million meals, distributed 3,700 laptops, and delivered thousands of pieces of furniture to those in need across Southwest London. Passionate about the sport for community good sector, Xavier believes in sport’s unique ability to bring people together and address pressing social challenges like poverty, mental health, and inclusion. As an AFC Wimbledon fan, he follows the team home and away. Xavier is committed to ensuring sport plays a transformative role in building stronger, more resilient communities. Xavier was proud to receive a British Empire Medal (BEM) in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, 2021 for services to the community. Xavier will share his journey in using sports to drive social action, from tackling food poverty to supporting mentoring and environmental projects through sports clubs. His experience will inspire us to think creatively about how we can harness the power of sports to build a more connected and engaged community. Join us for this free event, generously hosted by the St Neots Initiative, as we continue to shape the future of sports in our town. Your input is crucial to making these plans a reality, so come prepared to share your ideas and work together on the next steps. Sport@stneotsinitiative.org.uk
