Ready for Youth Work is a practical course for youth workers and volunteers to ensure that they can: create a safe space for young people; plan, deliver and evaluate fun youth work sessions for young people; engage young people meaningfully and celebrate and recognise their achievements. Accreditation available at SQCF level 3, you will be asked to do some portfolio building in your own time. This thrilling competition, known as enduroteering, invites participants to test their skills and speed at Glentress. The challenge is to find 10 NFC tags hidden within the woods, strategically placed to ensure an exhilarating experience on the hill. To aid participants, a map displaying the location of each tag will be provided, along with clues from the tags themselves. As you progress through the hunt, scanning each tag will reveal the next tag's location through an accompanying image. It is essential to scan the tags in the correct order, as hinted by the clues, and record your time to be eligible for prizes. For our first Hub in the Borders, we'll be looking into how we can better support neurodiversity in our youth theatres, taking a dive into devising, and exploring shadow puppetry. We'll also have the usual networking, sector support, and the ever-fun games exchange! The aims of the Regional Hubs are to upskill artists; share practice on specific creative areas; create stronger working relationships within regional youth theatre networks; support emerging youth theatre artists; identify future partnerships and projects; and help to shape YTAS’s programming. Hubs are open to all levels of experience and can be accessed by anyone who uses art and creativity in their work with young people. In Ink’s safe workshop environment leaders and artists will explore their own practice, share experiences and update their toolkits. Drawing from their own experience as an artist and facilitator, Ink will ensure that all participants leave this session with confidence in their ability to support young people with diverse needs in their home youth theatre, classrooms and clubs. Led by Lou Brodie, this workshop will work with you to focus on how you turn ideas into quality pieces of performance, all while honouring and support young artists in the process. Lou is a creative facilitator performance maker and project manager based in Scotland. Through an artistic process rooted in social practice Lou produces performances, art works and events in collaboration with communities, people and place. Lou has worked extensively across the community, youth arts and young audiences’ sectors. She has worked with a range of national and international companies and artists including; Independent Arts Projects, Tramway Glasgow, Lyra Theatre, Platform Glasgow, Imaginate and the Edinburgh International Children’s Festival, Mammalian Diving Reflex, Nic Green, Mamoru Iriguchi, Southbank Centre, The WOW Foundation and Visible Fictions. 4pm - 5.30pm:Games Exchange and NetworkingGot drama games? You should come prepared to share and participate. You might come away with a list of new activities, a refresh on the games you've forgotten, or some twists on the classics. Led by Emma Barr (she/her), YTAS’ Sector Development Manager. Emma has worked across the UK and Canada as a director and educator, specialising in making theatre for and with young people. With a background in applied theatre, she is particularly interested in how youth theatre can contribute to a young person’s sense of identity and creates a cultural community. Day Three: Saturday 29September 2024 2pm - 4.15pm: Shadow PuppetryShadow puppetry is an ancient tool used to tell great stories. In this workshop we will explore this theatrical tool using shadows and light creating new ways to tell shadow stories. During this workshop you will create shadow puppets but also look at what shadow stories could be. Led by Daniel Livingston, a theatre maker/artist based in Glasgow. Daniel has worked across the U.K and internationally, on many different productions in many different roles from director, designer, scenographer, makeup artist to actor and performer. Daniel’s work merges different art forms together to create a strong visual performance with world building and storytelling at its core. Alongside his work, he has delivered many different workshops, for young people and professional artists. Bursaries are available to any YTAS Member, who requires financial support in order to attend a Regional Hub event, and will cover any fees and/or expenses associated with the training. We will meet at Glentress to ride some trails together. It will be a social pace with a focus on fun, and we'll finish with a hot chocolate and cake at the Riders Retreat.
