The workshop is divided into two steps. On the first day, Saturday, students will focus on creating an 'underpainting' - a value study that emphasizes the dark and light elements of their chosen photo. This initial layer sets the foundation for the final masterpiece. The following Saturday, students will sketch and paint over the underpainting, adding depth and dimension to their composition. They will also learn the technique of glazing transparent colors using Liquin as a medium, enhancing the overall visual appeal of their artwork.
Under the guidance of the experienced instructor, Jenn, students will delve into the principles of light and shadow, gaining a deeper understanding of how to create realistic and captivating paintings. All necessary materials will be provided, including the paint. Students are only required to bring a large photo (or photos), a 16"x20" canvas, oil paint brushes, a sketchbook, pencils, and an eraser.

Hosted by Sophia Clist, Mark Jesset, and Gary Winters, A Thought Exchange promises to be an enlightening experience for both artists and art enthusiasts alike.
While admission to #2 A Thought Exchange is free, in line with the ethos of The Exchange, attendees will be kindly asked to contribute a donation upon arrival. Join award-winning poet and performer Ceri Baker, the current Bard of Exeter, as she guides you through two workshops designed to unlock your creativity and help you write your best self.
In these workshops, we will explore the connection between writing and the body's lived experience. Through a blend of accessible yoga, breathwork, poetry, and creative writing, participants will discover writing as a means to empower themselves and connect with their inner selves. These workshops are open to all genders, ages, and levels of writing experience.
Please note that these workshops are intended for individuals aged 16 and above, who have some life experience to process through writing. While the workshops have a therapeutic nature, they are not strictly therapy sessions. Participants are encouraged to only delve as deeply as they feel comfortable and to respect both their own emotional boundaries and those of others.
The workshops will take place on Saturday, March 9th and Saturday, March 30th. They will be held at Exeter Library, located at Castle Street, Exeter, EX4 3PQ. As these are taster workshops, we are offering a Pay What You Want system, with a recommended donation of £4 per workshop. However, feel free to contribute whatever amount you can. It is recommended, though not required, to attend both workshops. Due to limited spaces, booking in advance is essential.
Ceri Baker is known for her captivating performances and her ability to create meaningful connections through her poetry. She facilitates workshops and spaces that empower individuals to find their voices and express themselves. Ceri has performed across the UK and has won multiple Slam Competitions.
