The 38th Annual Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony & Fundraiser is an opportunity to honor our local sports heroes and legends. This year the Hall of Fame will welcomes a national championship team, two iconic members of the hockey community, a local football legend and a highly regarded leader in education as a teacher, coach and administrator. In addition, a distinguished service award recipient and a male and female student athlete will be honored. The 2025 Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame induction class is comprised of one of the most well-known athletes in Muskegon County history after his storied hockey career with the Mona Shores Sailors, Michigan State Spartans and Detroit Red Wings, Justin Abdelkader ; Muskegon Catholic Central football standout, Frank Lewandoski ; one of the most well-known hockey voices in America, Bob Heethuis and the 2010 National Champion Muskegon Community College softball team. The Gene Young Distinguished Service Award recipient is Al Nichols , decorated basketball player, longtime educator as a teacher, administrator and coach, as well as a respected community leader. Student Athletes of the Year will also be honored. The event will be held at the Event Center at Fricano Place, 1050 W Western Ave., Muskegon, MI 49441 on Saturday June 14, 2025. Social Hour at 5:00pm, dinner at 6:00pm with the program beginning around 6:45pm. There will be a buffet style dinner catered by Harris Catering. Southwest Michigan guitar phenom and multi-instrumentalist Jake Cinninger along with noted keyboardist Joel Cummins of Umphrey’s McGee will perform a rare duo show on Monday June 23rd at the Deck, following West Michigan's Electric Forest Music Festival in Rothbury. The show will consist of Umphrey’s tunes, singalong covers and even some improvisation. Expect a variety of sounds electric and acoustic, and some drums to keep the party going. The show will benefit Joel’s parents’ Jerry & Susan Cummins educational scholarships, assisting students who wish to pursue a career in teaching. This event is a benefit for Jerry & Susan Cummins' Educational Scholarships! There will be a $2 donation for every ticket purchased! The Jerry & Susan Cummins Educational Scholarships award two students from Lyons Township High School with aid toward their pursuit of a career in teaching. RV and tent spaces available. The campground is located on the grounds of Hot Rod Harley-Davidson. You will be placed in your spot when you arrive on a first come basis. All camping is priced for the weekend (Wednesday July 16 to Sunday July 20) regardless of when you arrive. No pets allowed, no weapons, 24 Hour security, no electric or water hook ups. You may arrive beginning on Wednesday July 16 at 12pm but no later than 10pm. Thursday, Friday and Saturday arrivals begin at 9am. You must be loaded and off the premises no later than 4pm on Sunday July 20. Online sales end on Wednesday July 16 at 12am. Onsite registration begins if space is still available on Wednesday July 16 at 12pm. This event is rain or shine. Campsite fee is non-refundable unless the event is cancelled.
