Hard To Swallow | Harvard Screening | The Piper Auditorium
Nov 19, 2024 (UTC-5)ENDED
Quincy
Hard To Swallow premiered at CANNESERIES and SeriesFest in the spring of 2024 and will be released in 2025. Essayistic and reflexive, the show recounts Wey’s explosive career while building a critique of the social structures that disenfranchise Black peoples globally. The screening will feature the pilot and finale episode (27 mins each) as well as a digital short, followed by a panel of LOEB Fellows discussing the broader themes of the episodes. The event will end with a Q&A with the filmmakers and a principal subject from the docu-series. The post-screening activities will be recorded, and attendees will receive a jar of spice featured in the show, while supplies last. Digital Short: BABY GOT BANKRUPTCY Baby Got Bankruptcy demystifies the complicated case and journey of Detroit’s bankruptcy, the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S history. Featuring one of the lead attorney’s on the case, the short is candid, cheeky and singular in its conclusion. Episode 1: THIS IS BLACK PEOPLE'S SHIT (Pilot) Tunde reflects on the erasure of Black chefs from New Orleans’ food culture even as tourism and hospitality hold up the city’s economy. Tunde also examines how post-Katrina development, fueled by federal recovery dollars, drove gentrification in the city at the expense of Black New Orleanians. The expert for the episode is an award-winning journalist whose investigation of a food hall guides the episode, but when his interview takes an unexpected turn, the expert himself becomes the subject of examination. Episode 6: YOU'RE IN THE SHOW NOW (Season Finale) The season finale of Hard To Swallow centers on an allegation of racism at the show’s world premiere in Cannes. A week of extravagant dinners and dizzying photoshoots against the lush views of the French Riviera culminate in the red carpet premiere. The festivities continue into the premiere afterparty where things turn sour when members of the Hard To Swallow team are accosted. The fallout from the incident is intense, tedious, and thoroughly documented, but the understanding of the story is up for debate. Noone is safe in this project, as Theo’s motivations come into question and Tunde’s evolving perspective begins to contradict his prior statements.

Mouthy, and brash, Colleen McCauley is a smart-ass female voice in Boston comedy, and her on-stage persona is not too much different than the role of “Cathy,” the comedian-actress played in the Boston-based classic film Good Will Hunting. She has shared the stage with a bevy of top New England headliners, including Juston McKinney, Lenny Clarke, Frank Santorelli and Steve Sweeney.
AJ Hapenny has a unique comedy perspective & style which combines witty wordplay with organic audience interaction, which lead him to 125,000 social media followers and a demand for him all over the Northeast. His act covers his Filipino family, growing up on an island, his un-healthy obsession with pro-wrestling, being a wedding minister and coming out of the closet in his 30’s. In addition to performing on Cape Cod Comedy Festival, Burbank Comedy Festival & Aloha Comedy Fest (Hawaii) to name a few, he’s a multi-time performer for the U.S. Air Force at Hanscom AFB.
Shut-in by day, lukewarm comedian by night, Jesse Farris has been performing stand-up comedy around Boston since the age of seventeen. Having recently moved back to town with a Master’s in English Literature and few prospects on the job market, she’s relying on her humor to stay financially afloat. Her sharp, “off-kilter” wit has been known to delight audiences and concern doctors everywhere (she never quite healed from that second concussion). Some of the stages she’s been on include The Rockwell, The Comedy Studio, and The Rex Theatre.

Kengo Kuma, “Return to Nature” | Harvard University Graduate School Of Design
Apr 8, 2025 (UTC-5)ENDED
Quincy
Architecture must bridge the gap between human life and the natural environment, an ethos deeply ingrained in Kengo Kuma’s philosophy. Kuma prioritizes harmony with surroundings, using materials like wood and stone that are not only sustainable but also evoke warmth and intimacy. This approach reconnects people with nature while redefining the boundaries of urban spaces. Throughout Kuma’s projects, such as the Japan National Stadium and V&A Dundee in Scotland, Kuma has challenged modernist trends that overemphasize industrial materials like concrete. Instead, he advocates for lightness, transparency, and adaptability—values rooted in Japanese traditions that are also universally resonant. Kuma pursues “openness and intimacy” in his designs, promoting structures that welcome their surroundings rather than dominate them. By combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, architecture can evolve into spaces that respect both cultural heritage and ecological systems. In this lecture, Kuma invites architects, designers, and students to reconsider their roles in fostering a symbiotic relationship with nature. Together, we can craft a future where urban landscapes complement their natural contexts rather than compete with them.
