VENUE HIGHLIGHT
Originally established in 1855 as the Queens Hotel, the establishment plated a vital role in the social and economic life of the community.
Over the years, it hosted distinguished guests, served as a venue for important events, and provided a welcoming retreat for travelers. As Hespeler evolved and the hospitality industry changed, the Queens Hotel underwent renovations and adaptations to meet the needs of a modernizing society. Eventually, in response to shifting consumer preferences and market demands, the decision was made to rebrand the building as Ernie's.
Named in homage to a beloved figure in the community at the time, Ernie's embraced the legacy of the Queens Hotel, while ushering in a new era of dining and entertainment. With its cozy atmosphere, delicious cuisine, and commitment to exceptional service, Ernie's quickly became a beloved institution in Hespeler Village. Throughout its history since then, Ernie's has adapted to culinary trends, while continuing to maintain its welcoming atmosphere and sense of community.
WHAT IS ERNIE'S TODAY?
Today, Ernie's stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Queens Hotel, and the entrepreneurial spirit that has shaped Hespeler's history. It continues to remain a cherished destination for locals and out-of-town visitors alike; offering a taste of the past, blended seemlessly with the comforts of the present.
We welcome you to come to experience Ernie's for yourself, so you can see why Ernie's is considered a pillar at the heart of the Hespeler Village community.

ABOUT HOTTER IN THE HAMPTONS
As New York City’s fashion it-girl, Lola has been living her dream. But when her career comes to a screeching halt after a very public snafu, everything Lola has worked for – her loyal following, her designer closet, her perfect boyfriend – starts to go up in flames. And when notorious culture critic Aly Ray Carter lights the final match by writing a scathing exposé, it feels as if Lola has lost it all.
When Lola flees to the Hamptons to escape her mistakes, she expects to spend her summer drinking Minuty by the pool while carefully rebuilding both her confidence and her brand. Instead, she looks over the trimmed hedges to see none other than her rival and newest neighbor: Aly Ray Carter.
As summer blazes on, Lola is swept into an intoxicating situation with the woman who ruined her life, marred by chaos and confusion as she tries to pinpoint why Aly has her so captivated. She thought the Hamptons would be the perfect place to outrun her mess, but quickly realizes there’s no place to run.

Exhibition Opening: Looking at Her | Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge
May 8, 2025 (UTC+0)
Cambridge
Looking at Her explores portraiture and how artists turn to the figurative and the fictitious in their expansive depictions of women. Portraits of writers, poets and artists sit alongside speculative imaginings of interior worlds to explore women’s lives more universally. How women are seen and how they see themselves runs through several of the works, prompting us to think about the inherent multiplicity of the self and how we are perceived by others. Drawing from the works in The Women’s Art Collection as well as long term loans, this exhibition showcases the work of women artists to comprehend the myriad ways that artists wrestle with the experience of being in the world, both corporally and spiritually. Artists Eileen Agar, Felicity Allen, Nicky Bird, Eva Frankfurther, Margaret Harrison, Sadie Lee, Linder, France-Lise McGurn, Trupti Patel, Anne-Katrin Purkiss, Soheila Sokhanvari, Renee Spierdijk, Shafei Xia Image: Soheila SokhanvariThe Silent Mirror (Portrait of Forough Farrokhzad) 2024. © The artist Accessibility, Car Parking and Arrival Upon arrival at the College, please come to the main entrance, the Porters’ Lodge, which has vehicle access and a generous dropping-off space, located on Buckingham Road which is off Huntingdon Road. Wheelchair access is available from the dropping-off point to the Porters’ Lodge. If you are coming by car, parking for up to 70 guests is available in our car park located on Storey’s Way. The route from the car park to the Porters’ Lodge is paved in generally smooth stone, concrete or tiling. At one point there is a slight incline to the main College building. Alternatively, it is possible to be dropped off in front of the Porters’ Lodge, as described above. The opening will be in the Fellow's Dining Room, which has a small set of stairs to the lower level. The upper level, which is the immediate space upon entering the room, is wheelchair accessible and on the same level as the College entrance.

Robert Lloyd Parry returns to the Leper Chpale with more tales of madness, monsters and the living dead
FRESH CONTENT GUARANTEED...
In late 2019 Robert Lloyd Parry inherited the contents of a flat belonging to a dead man that he’d never met. The property was full boxes, which were themselves stuffed with the most chilling documents: letters, diaries, newspaper cuttings, notebooks, postcards. Filed in disarray, they all told impossible tales of terror. He’d like to share some of these with you now, in this gripping new storytelling show.
Come, hear what lies within the archive of dread…
Robert Lloyd Parry of Nunkie Theatre is a performance storyteller specializing in supernatural literature and science fiction. He is best known for his shows based on the ghost stories of M R James.
“Wonderful, magical storytelling. A pleasing reminder that the spoken word can be as spine-chilling as anything in the cinema.”
— The Daily Mail
“Lloyd Parry [is] one of the country’s most idisyncratic and underrated performers…”

Dwell - Simon Armitage, at the Palmerston Room | Palmerston Room
May 13, 2025 (UTC+1)
Cambridge
Join us for an evening with Simon Armitage on the 13th of May at the Palmerston Room, St John's College to discuss his new collection, 'Dwell'.
Poet Laureate Simon Armitage was inspired to write these poems by the Lost Gardens of Heligan in Cornwall, an ambitious restoration project where history and mystery combine. He uses elements of riddle and folklore to animate a series of dwellings: the ‘twig-and-leaf crow’s-nest squat’ of a squirrel’s drey, a beaver lodge’s ‘spillikin stave church’ and a hive’s ‘reactor core’. Distinctions between human and animal, natural and cultivated, are blurred, emphasising commonality and creating a vibrant account of ‘non-stop stop-motion life’.
Dwell
warns of the fragility of these spaces and their dwellers, exposed to relentless and sadly familiar environmental threats. Just as a garden provides refuge for wildlife, so do these intricate poems offer lasting homes to those who dwell within their lines.

ABOUT
WHAT IF IT’S YOU
Everyone wonders about the one that got away . . . and thanks to an alternate reality tech project, one woman will get the chance to actually find out.
When Laurel Everett finds a ring in her longtime boyfriend Ollie's sock drawer, she should be thrilled . . . so why is she left wondering "what if?" Specifically, what if she'd taken up her work crush, Drew, on his offer of a date just after she and Ollie got together? Thanks to her job at tech giant Pixel, she might have a way to answer that question through the AltR project, which promises users a glimpse of alternate realities. Or it will, once the quantum computers it relies on get more powerful.
When the program actually works and Laurel wakes up five years into her life with Drew, she's fascinated . . . then increasingly horrified as she continues to slip between that world and her "real" life seemingly at random. As she moves back and forth between the two worlds, Laurel realizes choosing the right life might not be as simple as deciding between two men and the different visions of happiness they offer. And if she doesn't find a way to untangle herself from the quantum mess she's unleashed, she might wind up stuck in the wrong life, or worse, deleted entirely like a faulty line of code. . . .

ABOUT THE LODGE
USA TODAY
BESTSELLER: From the author of
The Reunion
, a cozy rom-com about a writer who decamps to a Vermont lodge for work but finds herself distracted by the charming ski instructor next door.
Alix Morgan just got her big break as the ghostwriter of a memoir by Sebastian Green, a former member of the boy band True North. And when he offers her a penthouse at a luxurious resort in Vermont, she jumps at the chance to work far away from her noisy, cramped apartment.
Her career as an entertainment journalist has been building toward this dream job—after all, she used to cover True North and was one of the last people to interview former front man Jett Beckett before he disappeared. As she combs through her client’s voice memos, the specter of the missing lead singer remains, and fans are desperate to know the full story.
But Alix also has time for some fun at this glamorous resort, where she begins ski lessons with a handsome instructor named Tyler. As Alix and Tyler fall in love on the slopes, Alix’s work takes a complicated turn—and the mystery of True North’s downfall may be hers to solve.

French-English Poetry Reading with Sandra Moussempès at Downing College | Heong Gallery, Downing College, Cambridge
May 14, 2025 (UTC+0)
Cambridge
Sandra Moussempès will give a short talk about her work and background before performing some of her poetry in French and English. About Sandra Moussempès: Sandra Moussempès is a French poet whose work draws upon upon ancient figures, like Lilith and Cassandra, and contemporary film and art, like the works of Cindy Sherman and David Lynch, in order to conjure spectral voices and feminine doubles. Through these ancient and contemporary resonances and echoes, her work plays with memory, voices, and telepathic atmospheres in a highly original poetic voice. She has published thirteen books, including Sauvons l’ennemie (Poésie/Flammarion, 2025), Fréquence Mulholland (Éditions MF, 2023), Cassandre à bout portant (Poésie/Flammarion, 2021), Cinéma de l’affect, Boucles de voix off pour film fantôme (Éditions de l’Attente, 2020), and Sunny Girls (Poésie/Flammarion, 2015). In addition to her writing, she is also a singer and performer. She has composed several albums of sound creations that integrate her singing voice with her poetry. Spaces are limited - if you cannot attend please let us know/cancel via eventbrite so that we can reallocate your ticket. Please email Dr Andrew Sackin-Poll: ajs314@cam.ac.uk with any queries.
