What happens in this class?Join us for a one-day beginners woodworking course to make a personalised bread board. In this beginners woodwork course, students will learn how to make beautiful wooden bread board. the course will cover how to join together the wood and the various machines and tools needed to get a high quality finish to your piece. You'll learn how to safely and confidently use various machinery and hand tools in the workshop, including the mitre saw, band saw, drill press and sanders - with the possibility of the table saw, jointer and planer. Therefore the course is great for beginners or just helping gain confidence in such fields. At the end of the day expect to take home with you a board that's useful and takes pride of place in your kitchen. Things to RememberAn apron, tools and materials will be provided, but we do recommend you wear old clothes. NB: We do not accept entry to our classes 15 minutes after the listed start date. Join us for a three hour workshop in Sprang by Carey Fleiner, senior lecturer in Classical History. Sprang is an ancient textile technique Introduction to Sprang Workshop In this three-hour workshop, we will cover the basics of working with sprang, a warp-only type of plaiting that dates back to prehistoric times. First will be a brief introduction to sprang and its history. Then, working with sustainably coppiced bow frames, we’ll set up a small practice piece to learn the basic Z and S twist interlacing and how to chain off the finished sampler. We will go over finishing methods for completed pieces. Next, students can set up and get started on a small project, for example, a small bag or hairnet. Students will be provided with two skeins of arigumi cotton yarn and their frame so that they can finish their pieces at home if need by. Latch-hooks will be provided to students to enable chaining off the finished practice pieces. No previous experience is necessary!

Wendy Shearer, a well-known storyteller and author, has written several books, including "African and Caribbean Folktales, Myths & Legends." Her storytelling sessions feature traditional Afro-Caribbean trickster tales about Anansi the spider. Anansi is a clever and cunning character known for outsmarting others in various adventures.
During the session, Wendy uses beautiful props and traditional music to bring the stories to life. Children can act out characters, contribute their ideas to the stories, and afterward, draw or write about the stories. They can also make their own craft spider to take home.

Their collaboration results in a rich, multi-layered narrative delving into India's past, present, and imagined futures, making Elsewhere in India a groundbreaking exploration of cultural preservation and innovation in a rapidly evolving technological landscape. Artists biography: Avinash Kumar (aka Thiruda), the creative director of Antariksha Studio, builds video games for Indian heritage. As Thiruda, he explores Indian futures through AI in his internationally touring live performance project 'Elsewhere in India.' He has curated several Indian design and art festivals, residencies, and productions that have shaped interdisciplinary design communities in India. Sri Rama Murthy (aka Murthovic) has been a sound practitioner and electronic music composer for over two decades.
