Tap Jam & Play (All Levels) (€30) 8-9pm - Intermediate/Advanced Tap (€70) DETAILS: BEGINNER/IMPROVER course is ideal for complete beginners, dancers who only know a few tap steps or styles, and students with only a year or so of tap experience. This course will focus on improving your tap technique, learning new steps, fun combinations and choreography. TAP JAM & PLAY is a new addition to my tap courses: an hour focused on improvisation, musicality, and expressing yourself through rhythm! All levels of tap student are encouraged to take part, as we explore new ways to approach the dance, our connections to the music, and to each other. All activities are grounded in play, curiousity, and community. If you find the idea of improvising or creating tap choreography intimidating, but want to try -- you're in the right place! (Note: this class is intended as an add-on for students enrolled in another tap course.) INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED class is for students who have already taken at least two years tap lessons, or by invitation from the teacher. This class will feature technique and choreography variations to suit different levels of dancer, incorporating more complex rhythms, musicality, and a variety of styles! If you are unsure which level you should pick, please contact Colleen for advice! FAQs What ages are welcome in class? Tap classes are intended for ages 18+ . I often have a wide age range in my classes, with students in their teens up to their 60s! What are my transport options for getting to and from the class? Dublin Bus: G1 & G2 (formerly buses 13 and 40) Luas Red Line: Goldenbridge or Drimnagh Parking: Free street parking Do I need my own tap shoes? What should I wear to class? Poetry Portraits: Invisible Becomes Visible | Hugh Lane Gallery
Jan 11, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Dublin
Invisible Becomes Visible 11, 18 and 25 January 2025, 1.45-4.15pm Led by poet Grace Wilentz, three part series of workshops engaging with “La Grande Illusion”, a major exhibition of the work of Brian Maguire. In each workshop, participants will spend time with the exhibition, before being guided to write original poems in response to it. Brian Maguire is an artist whose practice has been defined by sustained engagement with social justice and human rights. In this workshop, we will focus on how Maguire’s work in “La Grande Illusion” encounters climate justice, migration and making ‘the invisible become visible’. As Maguire says, art has the power to make ‘the invisible become visible’. We’ll explore what this means, with a focus on how your own creative practice might relate to serving the overlooked, omitted and forgotten. While no prior experience is necessary, all will be expected to participate actively in discussions and take part in writing exercises. In return, you can expect to come away with new poems, and discover fresh approaches to engaging with urgent social justice concerns in your own creative practice. Fee: €100, advance booking via Eventbrite

Craic Den Comedy Club – Glenn Wool, Karl Spain + Fiona Frawley! | The Workman's Club
Jan 12, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Dublin
SUNDAY 12TH JANUARY Doors 7:30pm / Show at 8pm Craic Den Comedy Club brings the best Irish and international comedians to the stage every week in Dublin city. As seen on their acclaimed TV show on Virgin Media and millions of views on social media, the Craic Den will deliver laughs all evening long. Glenn Wool Glenn began his comedy career in his hometown of Vancouver in 1995. He moved to London in 1998 and quickly became one of the rising stars of the London and international comedy circuit having performed in Australia, New Zealand, The USA, South Africa, Switzerland, France, Croatia and Arabia. Glenn was nominated for Best International Stand Up at The New Zealand Comedy Awards and twice Best Headliner at the Chortle Awards. “A cleverly subversive comedian, because behind his shaggy hangdog looks and his apparently homespun humour lies a sharp intelligence which is slowly and quietly hitting the mark on several of the important issues of the day. Wool tackles a wide range of subjects from religious fundamentalism to current world politics and does it in such a way that you hardly notice that that is what you are listening to. Not hardcore political comedy, but maybe all the more effective for being presented in a language the average layman can understand... Bernard Fletcher A masterpiece of comedy which has the audience helpless with laughter. I genuinely think this is one of the best hours of comedy I have ever seen” ★★★★★ The Scotsman Karl Spain Karl Spain has long been established as one of Ireland’s most popular comedians, from his own tours and touring with others, and has appeared at festivals all over the world. Karl has worked with some of the world’s greatest comedians ( his peers ahem, cough). Karl has spent most of 2022 touring with Kevin Bridges because Kevin finds him very funny – or because Kevin uses Karl to remind him to keep the weight off. Hopefully the former. Karl has written for lots of comedians over the last decade or so, so you have been laughing at his jokes even when you didn’t realise it. But he has kept all the best jokes for himself. “His quick wit will leave you gasping” – Evening Standard “A delight to be in the same room” – Independent “Karl is criminally underrated” – The Irish Times “The audience were in the palm of his hand” – Metro “See him now before he gets too big” – Three Weeks “Achingly funny” – The Sunday Times Fiona Frawley A fast rising talent on the Irish comedy scene, Fiona uses quick wit, dry humour and the appropriate amount of cringe to give the people what they want - jokes that make them feel better about their own awkward existence. Fiona can regularly be found on Ireland's most iconic comedy stages including at Vicar Street where she recently supported Tommy Tiernan, Iain Stirling & Joanne McNally, and Cherry Comedy where she is a resident MC. She has performed at the country’s top festivals including Electric Picnic and the Vodafone Comedy Festival, and also beat the gong at the famous Comedy Store in London. The excitement around Frawley continues to grow! HotPress You’re so relatable! New Year Intention Setting Workshop | The Fumbally Stables
Jan 12, 2025 (UTC+0)ENDED
Dublin
As we find ourselves at the beginning of a New Year, how is setting an intention different from setting goals and resolutions? The Sanskrit word ‘Sankalpa’ is where the yogic idea of ‘intention’ is derived, and when broken down is defined by: ‘Kalpa’ which can translate as ‘vow’, and ‘San’ which refers to a connection with our highest truth. The tradition of Yoga teaches that we are already perfectly whole and complete, and that we have everything we will ever need within ourselves, it is a process of Self-realisation. Traditional goal-setting and resolutions usually come from a place of feeling lacking , and then dreaming up how wonderful our lives would be if we just: lost those few extra kilos, got that next pay rise, or found our 'perfect' partner. Yogic intentions, however come from a place of deep listening, realizing our heart's deepest longing rather than focussing on egoic desires, and connecting with our truth, our highest self. This two-hour workshop will focus on releasing what from 2024 no longer serves you and setting intentions for the upcoming year of 2025. This is a personal practice I have done for the last 6 years, I find it really helpful to reflect back on the year, looking at what worked and what didn't, and taking the learnings and moving them forward into the next year. The workshop will also be a time for you to think about the year ahead and to set intentions, inviting what you want to achieve into your world! The practice will be from 12:00 pm-2:00 pm on Sunday, January 12th.This workshop will include guided meditation and breathwork, journaling and a gentle embodied flow to clear out the previous year and release stuck energy. We will end our practice together using Yoga Nidra to set our Sankalpa (our resolve, our hearts longing) and clear our negative Samskaras (our old habits) starting our New Year with focus and positive energy!I will provide tea and homemade treats for after.W hat to bring: Yoga matJournal & penMug for tea* This class is open to all levels of yoga (please inform me in advance if you are pregnant)
