Cecelia Ahern and Dawn O'Porter | 1WML
Oct 10, 2024 (UTC+0)ENDED
Dublin
Join us for a special evening with two internationally bestselling authors as we celebrate their brand new books, publishing this autumn. Into the Storm (HarperCollins) by Cecelia Ahern, is a gripping and haunting story about motherhood, buried truths, and outrunning the storms that follow us. In the aftermath of encountering a hit and run on a wild, stormy night, GP Enya goes to pieces and leaves her life as she knows it behind her for a new life in rural Ireland; but will this new life be enough to lay the ghosts of her past to rest? Honeybee (HarperCollins) by Dawn O’Porter is a coming-of-age story, at once heartbreaking and deeply funny, that celebrates the wonder of female friendship. Old friends Renée and Flo couldn’t be more different. In their early twenties, on the cusp of the rest of their lives, they fly home to the place of their youth, where it all began; but will they flail and fall, or will growing up be the making of them? Cecelia and Dawn are renowned across the globe for their original and imaginative storytelling, capturing the hearts and minds of millions of readers. Cutting to the heart of what matters and underlining their novels with searing social commentary, both have a flair for speaking to the lives of modern women. Cecelia and Dawn will be in conversation with presenter and broadcaster Muireann O’Connell. Cecelia Ahern constantly defies expectations. Ever evolving, she is most recently known for her provocative, mind-bending collection Roar, adapted for TV by Nicole Kidman. She describes herself as ‘drawn to the surreal’ but anchors her novels with compassion and shrewd observation. With this delicate balance in hand, it’s no wonder that she has gathered millions of fans across the globe, having sold over twenty-five million novels. Dawn O’Porter is an author, presenter and absolute fashion icon. She is on a mission to help people choose love and bring joy and laughter to their everyday lives whilst never shying away from a hot topic. She has written nine books including bestselling novels The Cows, So Lucky, Cat Lady and her non-fiction title Life in Pieces. She is co-founder and director of Choose Love, designs dresses for Joani Clothing and has a large following on her Patreon blog. Dawn started out in TV production, quickly landing in front of the camera, making numerous documentaries that included immersive investigations of Polygamy, Size Zero, Childbirth, Free Love, Breast Cancer, and the movie Dirty Dancing. Further TV work included This Old Thing, a prime-time Channel 4 show celebrating the wonders of vintage clothing before Dawn traded the screen to become a full-time writer. She lives with her husband Chris, her two boys Art and Valentine, and her cats Myrtle and Boo, her two dogs Meatloaf and Puffin and Sandwich the tortoise. Muireann O’Connell is a TV presenter and broadcaster; she currently co-hosts Virgin Media One ratings hit, Ireland AM. The Limerick native has amassed a significant fanbase and online following thanks to her wit, candour, and relaxed onscreen presence. Muireann has also presented The Great Big Irish Thank You, a special celebration of the people helping Ireland to get through the Covid-19 Pandemic. She co-hosted The Line Out with Greg O’Shea, a rugby-centric entertainment-led show that aired alongside Six Nations coverage, and appeared on Thank You, Next, a topical panel show, also for Virgin Media. Dun Laoghaire
The Safeguarding 1 Online Workshop, scheduled for October 16th, 2024 in Dun Laoghaire Rathdown, offers a 3-hour Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Course. This online workshop is specifically designed for Coaches, Children's Officers, and Designated Liaison Persons (DLP), who are required to complete this course. Participants will gain essential knowledge on how to implement best practices for safeguarding children involved in sports activities. The adoption and implementation of the Sport Ireland Code by governing bodies, clubs, local sports partnerships, and community/voluntary groups have greatly contributed to the protection of young people and leaders since 2000. Creating positive and enjoyable experiences for young individuals, regardless of their ability, gender, social class, or race, is crucial to ensuring their long-term engagement in sports and physical activities. The involvement of responsible adults, both volunteers and professionals, as role models plays a significant role in this regard. Children's Officers, in particular, have been instrumental in implementing the Code at club and national level. To enhance the impact of their work, it is essential to continue building on these foundations, so that sport and physical activity remain important and valuable aspects of young people's lives as they transition into adulthood. The Safeguarding 1 Online Workshop will be conducted using the Zoom video and audio conferencing service. Participants are required to download the Zoom app from www.zoom.us prior to the workshop in order to access the course. If I Tell is the first in the Shaw and Darmody series of crime thrillers published by Penguin, set in the fictional Dublin suburb of Clonchapel. The next Shaw and Darmody is to be published by Penguin in 2025, and a standalone thriller in 2026. Gill lives in Rathfarnham with Kevin and Angus (one of these is a dog).
