Nguyen will be showcasing their poetic talents through a captivating and immersive experience at the MINNESOTA Kissing God's Gravel Book Release. This two-day event, held at the XIA Gallery & Cafe in Saint Paul, MN, promises to engage the senses and leave a lasting impact on attendees. As space is limited, it is advised to choose one of the two available days to attend.
Nguyen's debut chapbook, Kissing God's Gravel, delves into their personal journey as a first-generation Vietnamese American, grappling with the weight of war, generational trauma, and suicide. Each poem in the collection serves as a poignant prayer, lifting Nguyen out of grief and into a place of remembrance. Through heartfelt performances using a variety of multidisciplinary mediums, Nguyen will take audiences on a multidimensional exploration of their poetry, incorporating movement, visualization, and interactive elements.
Please note that RSVP is required for this exclusive event, with a capacity of 42 people per night. General admission to the event is free, but there is an opportunity to pre-order the chapbook for $18. Additionally, donations are suggested to support Nguyen's artistic endeavors. Physical copies of Kissing God's Gravel will be available for purchase on both nights, with the option for pre-order ticket holders to pick up their books and participate in an optional book signing.
Guests can also look forward to special surprise performances by talented Minnesota-based artists, as well as the chance to purchase signed copies of Kissing God's Gravel, exclusive 3:33 AM merchandise, and @KarmaKlub555 love drip prior to its online release.
In consideration of attendees' physical and mental well-being, hand sanitizers and face masks will be provided throughout the event. It's important to be mindful of the night's references to Nguyen's struggles with mental health, particularly depression and suicidal thoughts. Engaging the senses, the show will incorporate scents such as sage smoke, eucalyptus oil, and flowers. Volunteers will be invited to participate in certain sets, involving tactile interactions and visual projections. While taste will not be engaged, an array of music and sounds will create a captivating auditory experience.
This event is supported by the Creative Support for Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
