Discover the captivating journey of artist and filmmaker Mark Frith at the gallery talk showcasing his remarkable exhibition of ancient oak drawings. Delve into the inspiration behind his ambitious project to intricately depict 'the most important oak trees' in Britain, a venture he embarked on at the age of 60. Mark Frith's exceptional talent is evident in the detailed and grandiose portraits of these majestic trees, with Nottinghamshire's Major Oak among the notable features. Through his artwork, Frith beautifully captures the essence of Britain's ancient oaks, showcasing a deep-rooted connection with nature that resonates with viewers. Renowned for his BAFTA award-winning documentary "The Lie of the Land," Mark Frith's passion for drawing was reignited upon returning to his childhood home in Gloucester. Commissioned by the late Felix Dennis, a poet and tree enthusiast, Frith's drawings authentically portray the soul of these ancient oak trees. At the age of 71, he continues his artistic journey by embarking on a new series featuring Britain's ancient ash trees. Immerse yourself in this insightful gallery talk, a not-to-be-missed opportunity to witness the timeless beauty of Britain's natural heritage. Remember, registration is required for this event funded by Inspire: Libraries, Museums, and Culture. Mark your calendars to meet at The Harley Gallery for this enlightening experience.
