SJV, together with friends from various choirs at the University, is preparing for a special music recording session at St John's College Chapel in Cambridge. The focus of this recording will be the enchanting compositions of Nikolai Golovanov, an incredibly expressive composer from the early 20th century, who shared a close friendship with Sergei Rachmaninov prior to the Revolution of 1917. While Golovanov primarily dedicated himself to conducting later in his career, his strong Christian faith inspired him to continue writing devotional music for an imaginary choir. Only recently has this hidden treasure of music been brought to light. To showcase the richness and depth of Golovanov's work, St John's Voices will be joined by fellow singers from other Cambridge choirs, forming a larger ensemble that is perfectly suited to perform this repertoire. In addition to Golovanov's compositions, the concert will also feature paired motets by Rachmaninov, further adding to the captivating musical experience. If you're a fan of classical music and want to immerse yourself in the sublime beauty of Golovanov and Rachmaninov's creations, make sure to mark your calendar for March 14, 2024. The event will take place at the stunning St John's College Chapel in Cambridge. Tickets are available at a range of prices, starting from £6.13 and going up to £16.96. Don't miss out on this extraordinary opportunity to witness a truly exceptional musical performance.
