Discover the endless possibilities of Linocut at the LINO CUT/ETCH workshop in Berlin. This two-session event will take place from February 16th to February 19th, 2024, at Defreggerstraße 12. During the workshop, participants will explore new dimensions of block printing by incorporating texture, experimentation, and vibrance into their Linocuts. The first session, held on Friday, February 16th from 16:30 to 21:00, will focus on designing, carving, and etching a linoleum block. Attendees will learn about composition development from contemporary printmakers and discover various materials and objects used as printmaking surfaces. The second session, on Monday, February 19th from 16:30 to 21:00, will delve into the printing process. Participants will have the opportunity to troubleshoot their carved/etched linoleum block and create a small edition of prints. They can also experiment with different surfaces, such as colored paper, fabric, and t-shirts. No previous printmaking skills are necessary to participate in this workshop, making it accessible to everyone. However, it is important to note that this workshop is not an introduction to Linocut and may be confusing for first-time printers. To get the most out of the workshop, attendees are encouraged to bring along inspiration in the form of drawings, magazine clippings, books, or photographs. They will also need to purchase two Lino plates, no larger than A5, in advance either at Boesner or Modulor. Additionally, printmaking paper can be purchased through the instructor or at the appropriate art shop. Please come prepared with clothes that can get dirty or bring an apron. The temporary bauhaus-archiv in Berlin will be hosting the bauhaus_werkstatt: Weben im Quadrat event on February 17, 2024. This free family workshop will delve into the art of weaving, a practice that has been carried out for thousands of years worldwide. Participants will have the opportunity to explore various materials and techniques used in weaving, from traditional handcrafted methods to modern computer-controlled production. The workshop will draw inspiration from the Bauhaus weaving workshop, which employed different tools, materials, and techniques to create textiles for diverse purposes. The square shape, whether used as a structural element or a motif, often appeared in their designs. Led by educators Verena Cremer and Cornelia Durka, participants will have the chance to experiment with their own designs and try out different weaving techniques.
