This event will provide a platform for creative discussions among makers of multi-disciplinary and music-driven performance, where we can identify how to overcome barriers and envision a future together. The day will consist of various sessions led by industry professionals. The introductory and closing sessions will be led by Frederic Wake-Walker from Mahogany Opera, who will facilitate discussions on burning questions, ideas, and concerns that participants would like to explore. Snap-Elastic, represented by Eszter Marsalko and Claire Willoughby, will lead a workshop on self-producing for artists interested in taking control of their own work. They will provide valuable insights on how to get started and realize artistic visions using the skills artists already possess. Another session, led by Jennifer Williams from Edinburgh Futures Institute, will focus on Utopia Lab. This session will encourage participants to dream about the future of opera and art-making, envisioning their own utopian visions and examining the role of opera and art in the community in the coming decades. The session will incorporate movement, meditation, poetry, and imagination to inspire participants in their creative journey. Please note that some sessions may require physical activity, so comfortable clothing is recommended. The lecture will shed light on the transcript of de Jager's address, examining the minimal vocal presence of the headmen and the implications of their consent to colonial rule. By analyzing photographs from the same context, a more nuanced understanding of the situation can be achieved, highlighting the unique perspectives and forms of cohesion that visual material offers.
