The City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Cycle Mechanics (Bristol) is an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in becoming home mechanics or pursuing a career in the cycle industry. Hosted at the Life Cycle Hub in Bishopston, this two-day course provides a solid foundation for learners, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in their chosen field.
Led by experienced and knowledgeable tutors, participants will benefit from their years of expertise and the latest industry techniques. From 9 am to 5 pm on two consecutive days, usually over a weekend, attendees will engage in intensive training covering a range of essential topics.
Throughout the course, participants will learn how to remove, refit, and adjust a rim brake assembly, as well as a derailleur gear system. They will also gain the skills to repair punctures, including correctly removing and refitting wheels, tires, and inner tubes. In addition, learners will develop the ability to conduct systematic cycle checks and rectify any faults that may arise.
To attend this course, individuals must be aged 18 or over. However, those aged 16-18 may attend with written permission from a parent. The course fee is £330, with the option to pay a deposit and the remaining balance 30 days before the course start date.
As an added benefit, participants can enjoy a 10% discount on a range of products from the bike workshop, including professional toolkits, bike parts, and accessories.

Simple Things returns to Bristol after four years to celebrate its landmark 10th edition. The programme will be centred around a full day of music on Saturday, February 24th, featuring a separate day and night programme filled with some of the most eclectic and groundbreaking names in music today, all performing in some of Bristol’s best-loved venues.
For the first time in the festival’s storied history, there will be a weeklong series of events, separate from the primary day, to emphatically bring in the 10th year of the festival. This includes an extra special closing concert from vaunted avant-garde trailblazer Fever Ray on Thursday, 29 February.
For the first round of names, Simple Things is proud to announce a line-up of cutting-edge artists, festival first-timers and returning local heroes: Max Cooper, Warmduscher, Les Savy Fav, Gilla Band, Wu-Lu, Flowdan, Jeshi, Giant Swan, Spectres and much more.

After working up a thirst, we will reconvene at the renowned Wiper and True Brewery & Taproom in Old Market.
