About the Books: Luigi the Spider who Wanted to be a Kitten: On a street of old houses, a big hairy spider is searching for a home with dark corners to hide in. But when he wakes up, he finds a hand reaching for him and a lady proclaiming that she has always wanted a kitten—and will name him Luigi! At first, a somewhat puzzled Luigi, used to being left alone to creep and dangle and spin webs, resists her kind advances. But soon, tasty breakfasts and getting tucked into bed (no one’s ever wished him good night before) have him thinking that kittens surely live magical lives. I will be a kitten! he decides. But how long can he keep up his facade, and what might be at stake in pretending to be someone you’re not? Library Lion: Miss Merriweather, the head librarian, is very particular about rules in the library. No running allowed. And you must be quiet. But when a lion comes to the library one day, no one is sure what to do. There aren't any rules about lions in the library. And, as it turns out, this lion seems very well suited to library visiting. His big feet are quiet on the library floor. He makes a comfy backrest for the children at story hour. And he never roars in the library, at least not anymore. But when something terrible happens, the lion quickly comes to the rescue in the only way he knows how. Michelle Knudsen's disarming story, illustrated by the matchless Kevin Hawkes in an expressive timeless style, will win over even the most ardent of rule keepers. East City Bookshop celebrates the release of Intermezzo by Sally Rooney with a special happy hour event. Join our booksellers for an evening of refreshments, trivia, giveaways, and more! Note on Format: This is an in-person, authorless event. ABOUT INTERMEZZO An exquisitely moving story about grief, love, and family—but especially love—from the global phenomenon Sally Rooney. Aside from the fact that they are brothers, Peter and Ivan Koubek seem to have little in common. Peter is a Dublin lawyer in his thirties—successful, competent, and apparently unassailable. But in the wake of their father’s death, he’s medicating himself to sleep and struggling to manage his relationships with two very different women—his enduring first love, Sylvia, and Naomi, a college student for whom life is one long joke. Ivan is a twenty-two-year-old competitive chess player. He has always seen himself as socially awkward, a loner, the antithesis of his glib elder brother. Now, in the early weeks of his bereavement, Ivan meets Margaret, an older woman emerging from her own turbulent past, and their lives become rapidly and intensely intertwined. For two grieving brothers and the people they love, this is a new interlude—a period of desire, despair, and possibility; a chance to find out how much one life might hold inside itself without breaking. Dance
Ceilidh dancing is the biggest fun that you could ever take part in. What is a Ceilidh? Traditional and more modern dances, which you can learn in a few minutes and enjoy. It is very inclusive, you will meet new people, change partners and hopefully laugh a lot. We provide live music by Phill, calling and teaching all the dances by Zsofi in a wonderful venue at the Bridgeness Miners Welfare on Harbour Road in Bo’ness. No experience, partner or kilt are needed, just you. Bring along a pair of comfy shoes (trainers are perfect, no high heels please), a friend, if you like, and your sense of humour and have an hour of fun with us. Absolutely no age limit, but under 18 years old should be accompanied by a responsible adult. Kids are more than welcome. Parking is free in the nearby streets but can be busy if it is a nice day. The venue is accessible by wheelchair as well, but you will need to go through two sets of doors, so you may need a hand to help you come in. We take photos and videos at our classes for promotional reasons, please let us know on the day if you don't want to be included in these. Scottish Dancing is so popular all around the world, we welcome all nationalities at our events. The Ceilidh has no fixed fee but donations towards our costs would be welcomed. The event has a Facebook link, you can mark your interest there as well: https://fb.me/e/4OfDimTkr Tickets are available at the door too. Information Source: Bo'ness Dance | eventbrite
