Join the Pewter Casting Course at the London Sculpture Workshop in London from February 5th to February 13th, 2024, and discover the ancient art of pewter casting using the lost wax method. This 4-session course will teach you how to experiment with modeling in wax and create stunning artworks to be cast in pewter metal. Pewter, a silver-colored alloy, is the perfect medium for this course. With a low melting temperature, it can easily be cast on a gas hob. The lead-free pewter we use has a high tin content, making it soft to work with and ideal for hammering and shaping after casting. Traditionally used for cups and plates, pewter is also excellent for casting metal sculptures and creating intricate designs. Its versatility shines when combined with wood or stone. During the course, you will learn the entire casting process. On the first day, you'll experiment with different waxes and create small sculptures to cast. On the second day, you'll add casting runners and risers to your wax sculptures, make plaster molds, and burn out the wax to create negative cavities. The third day will involve melting and casting molten pewter into your plaster molds, with time allocated for cleaning and finishing on the fourth day. This course is suitable for both beginners and experienced individuals. Basic materials are provided, including 1 kilo of pewter. Any additional metal used will be charged at £52 per kilo. Here's a rundown of the Jam Sandwich schedule: the evening kicks off with a sign-up session for the jam at 6:45 pm, followed by a warm-up at 7:00 pm (attendance is mandatory for those participating in the jam). The show officially starts at 7:30 pm, with the first half featuring a guest group (15 minutes), followed by the jam session (30 minutes), and another guest group (15 minutes). After a break, the second half resumes with another guest group (15 minutes) and an extended jam session (30 - 40 minutes). Following the show, there will be a social gathering at the bar. Audience members are welcome to arrive from 7:20 pm onwards. Please note that this jam is best suited for individuals who have completed our Level 2 course or above. If you're new to improv, we recommend starting with our Beginners Improv Course instead. The event is free of charge, but donations are greatly appreciated.
