Switzerland! God blessed this place with the most beautiful scenery — traveler post in Canton of Vaud

Switzerland! God blessed this place with the most beautiful scenery

Switzerland is more than just watches and banks. This small country nestled in the Alps is home to some of Europe's most spectacular scenery—snow-capped mountains, lakes, charming towns, and scenic trains. Every view is postcard-worthy. 🏔️ Alpine snow that never melts The Jungfrau is the "Top of Europe." Take the cogwheel train through a tunnel up to 3,454 meters, watching the landscape transform from green meadows to white glaciers. The Matterhorn, shaped like a pyramid and reflected in the Riffelsee at its base, offers the most classic postcard view in Switzerland. 🏞️ Lakes as blue as gemstones Lake Thun, Lake Lucerne, and Lake Geneva feature an unreal, turquoise-blue water. Lakeside towns are draped in flowers, cruise boats glide slowly by, and the reflection of snow-capped mountains on the water looks like a living painting. 🚂 Train travel is a scenic experience in itself The Glacier Express, known as the "world's slowest express train," travels for 8 hours across 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels, taking you from snow-capped peaks to lush meadows. The GoldenPass Line offers stunning lake and mountain views through windows so large they feel like panoramic paintings—no need for photos, just take it all in with your own eyes. 🏘️ Fairy-tale towns beneath snow-capped peaks Zermatt is a car-free mountain town where wooden balconies are overflowing with geraniums and the Matterhorn looms overhead. In Grindelwald, wooden chalets are scattered across green meadows, set against the backdrop of the permanently snow-capped Wetterhorn. 🍫 Deliciously Swiss Enjoy bubbling cheese fondue with bread, Zurich-style veal with Rösti, and Lindt and Sprüngli chocolates that will melt your heart. In Switzerland, the scenery isn't just a tourist attraction—it's everyday life. ✨ View the full itinerary via the product card below

13 days of slow travel in Switzerland: not rushing through multiple countries is the real vacation

Just got back. I spent my entire 13-day vacation in Switzerland. No rushing through multiple countries, sleeping in every day—the pace was just right. 📍 Overview Located in the Alps, featuring snow-capped mountains, lakes, and cliffside towns. The entire trip was connected by the Swiss Travel Pass, perfect for travelers looking for deep relaxation. 🗺️ Itinerary Day 1: Geneva → Montreux → Zermatt → Mürren → Lungern → Lucerne → Zurich Tip: Scenic trains are popular. Book at least 90 days in advance. ✨ Highlights Open your window to views of snow-capped mountains. The five-lake hike is incredibly photogenic. Taking the cogwheel train to the summit makes for a relaxed, non-tiring schedule. 🍜 Local specialties Cheese fondue (buy ingredients at Coop), Lindt chocolate (Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich), and grilled sausage (Lucerne Old Town). 🏨 Accommodation recommendations 1. Scenic area guesthouse: Hotel Bella Vista Zermatt, super convenient walking distance to the Matterhorn viewing platform. 2. City hotel: Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern, right next to the Lucerne train station, making transfers a breeze. 🎒 Travel essentials 1. Protection: High-SPF sunscreen, sunglasses, waterproof jacket. 2. Small items: Type J adapter, credit card, coin purse. 💡 Practical tips 1. The pass pays for itself after 4–5 intercity trips. 2. Have sunglasses ready for high-altitude photos. 3. Wear non-slip shoes for hiking and stay safe. 4. Follow the plastic bottle refund policy when buying water at supermarkets. Give your heart to the Alps and leave the rest to the scenery. This slow trip was worth it.

Mountains and Lakes: Just as Desired — traveler post in Canton of Vaud

Mountains and Lakes: Just as Desired

From the poet's residence to the cloisters of monasteries, and the breathtaking scenery of the Dolomites. 🏡 Asolo · The Poet's Residence My journey began with a landing in Venice, without rushing. In just an hour, I arrived in Asolo. This quaint town nestled in the hills of Veneto is quiet and slow-paced, like an unfinished poem. Villa Cipriani was the residence of poet Robert Browning in his later years. It’s not a chain hotel but a property owned by the Cipriani family. The garden, terrace, antique furniture, and mountain views are all perfectly balanced—not ostentatious, but exuding refined taste. On the first day, I didn’t plan any sightseeing. I simply made a detour to Treviso, where the Sile River branches through the town. There, I saw ancient water mills and frescoes painted on the exterior walls of buildings dating back to the Middle Ages and the 16th century. Then, I headed into the mountains, rested, and adjusted to the time zone. I sipped tea in the garden, admired the mountain views from the terrace, and went to bed early. 🏨 Accommodation: Villa Cipriani (Asolo) 🏔️ Ortisei · Mountains and Meadows Heading north from Asolo, I entered the Dolomites. Ortisei is the hub of the western Dolomites and the best base for the next two days. However, I chose not to stay in the town itself but instead headed to Selva. Upon arrival, I visited the Alpe di Siusi plateau via cable car. Europe’s largest alpine meadow unfolded beneath me—rolling grass slopes, wooden huts, grazing cattle, and sunlight streaming through the clouds. Every snapshot was picture-perfect. I still had energy left to stroll around Ortisei town. Wooden houses, churches, cafes—the air was filled with the scent of pine resin and grass. 🏨 Accommodation: Selva (2 nights) 🌄 Val di Funes · Waiting for the Light From Selva, it was a fifty-minute drive to Val di Funes. The small town of Santa Maddalena is home to the tiny Church of St. Giovanni, perched on a hillside. Behind it, the jagged peaks of the Geisler Group rise like a row of teeth—gray and white. I set out in the afternoon and waited for sunset on the grassy slope in front of the church. The light first touched the spire, then slowly climbed the mountain, turning the gray-white rocks into warm gold, and finally into pink. This was the most photogenic half-hour of the entire trip. No hiking, no climbing—the grassy slope was the perfect viewing platform. With plenty of time left that day, I also visited the Church of St. John, which is even smaller, lonelier, and looks like a postcard. 💧 Lake Braies · Gem Green Heading further northeast, I reached Lake Braies in about an hour and a half. The lake’s water is a gem-like green, crystal clear. I rowed a boat, walked around the lake, and strolled leisurely along the wooden boardwalk by the shore. Hotel Lago di Braies, an old building from 1899, sits right by the lake and offers the best vantage point for capturing stunning lake views. I stayed for two to three hours before continuing southward. Fifty minutes later, I arrived at Castel Badia. This day was a transition day, but Lake Braies broke up the long journey into manageable segments, making it far from exhausting. 🏨 Accommodation: Castel Badia (2 nights) 🏰 Castel Badia · Monastery Cloisters Castel Badia was originally a Benedictine monastery dating back to the 11th century. It was later converted into a hotel and is now part of the Leading Hotels of the World. The property features cloisters, frescoes, stone walls, and a chapel. It feels like a blend of the Monastery of Meteora and the Château de Chillon on dry land. It’s not about “modern design” but rather an “old soul.” Its timeless elegance and attention to detail seem to whisper, “You deserve to be treated well.” I didn’t plan any outings for this day. I simply strolled through the cloisters, relaxed in the garden, and indulged in the spa. The hotel itself was the destination. 🛍️ Milan · The Final Night From Castel Badia, I drove west for about three hours to Milan, stopping at Verona and Lake Garda along the way for lunch and a walk, breaking up the long drive. Portrait Milano is tucked away in a courtyard within the fashion district. It was converted from a 16th-century seminary. With walnut wood, rattan, and light, every detail is meticulously crafted yet warm—like visiting the home of a friend with impeccable taste in Milan. On the final night, I had a good sleep. The next day, I departed from Malpensa Airport. 🏨 Accommodation: Portrait Milano Seven days, no mountain climbing, no rushing, no daily hotel changes. The poet’s residence, the meadows and lakes of the Dolomites, the monastery cloisters, and the courtyard in Milan. I saw mountains, I saw lakes, I took photos, and I was cared for. Mountains and lakes, just as desired. It’s not greed; it’s about making every moment worthwhile.

A spectacular 35-day trip through Europe and Africa — traveler post in Canton of Vaud

A spectacular 35-day trip through Europe and Africa

A 35-day journey connecting the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB), famous Western European cities, the Balkans, and Greek mythology, ending in Cairo—this itinerary got me so excited while planning! It is truly the ultimate blend of natural epics and historical monuments. 🏔️ Stage 1: TMB hike (July 27–Aug 5, photos 1–3) Starting from Chamonix, France, I hiked counter-clockwise to Italy, rested for a day in Courmayeur, then headed to Martigny in Switzerland, and finally returned to Chamonix, France, covering a total of 108 km around Mont Blanc and the Grandes Jorasses. · Highlight section: Courmayeur → Rifugio Bonatti → Ferret Valley, Switzerland. This section has the most stunning views of the south face. 🚩 Stage 2: City and island exploration · Geneva (Aug 5–Aug 7): A relaxing spot after TMB, seeing Lake Geneva and strolling through the Old Town, photos 4–6. · Belgrade (Aug 7–Aug 13): Experiencing the diversity of the "White City"—Saint Sava Temple, Kalemegdan Fortress, the House of Flowers, and the bohemian vibe of Skadarlija Street..., photos 7–9. · Athens (Aug 13–Aug 18): The Acropolis, Ancient Agora, Plaka district, Syntagma Square, Mount Lycabettus..., photos 10–12. · Santorini (Aug 18–Aug 23): Oia sunset, Fira, Old Port of Fira, cliffside paths, red/white/black sand beaches, Kamari Beach..., photos 13–15. 🏛️ Final stop: Cairo (Aug 23–Aug 28): Giza Pyramid Complex, Grand Egyptian Museum (Tutankhamun's mask), Citadel of Saladin (including the Military and Police Museum), Khan el-Khalili market, and many ancient mosques and churches, photos 16–19. This solo trip (only the TMB hike was part of a guided tour) was planned since last November, and I booked all flights and accommodations on Trip.com. Finally, I returned to Shenzhen on the evening of Aug 29. The entire trip was incredibly rich and rewarding.

Travel on Switzerland’s top scenic trains and enjoy clear summer views of the Matterhorn and lakeside mountains — traveler post in Canton of Vaud

Travel on Switzerland’s top scenic trains and enjoy clear summer views of the Matterhorn and lakeside mountains

Ride the GoldenPass Line and the Matterhorn Glacier Express through Switzerland’s vibrant summer. With no snow blocking the mountain views, the lakes and meadows stretch out endlessly. The train slowly climbs over valleys, offering breathtaking views of the gentle and grand Alps. Immerse yourself in the unique romance of Swiss trains and the peaceful mountain scenery. Travel tips 1. GoldenPass Line 1. Ticketing and passes: The Swiss Travel Pass allows free travel in standard class. During peak season, window seats with the best views are recommended to be reserved online in advance for about 20 CHF. Groups of 10 or more must book in advance, with a surcharge of 17 CHF per person. There are 4 fixed daily departures from Montreux to Interlaken. Early departures have less fog over the lake, offering better views. 2. Seat selection: When departing from Montreux, sit on the right side of the train to fully enjoy the vineyards and Lake Thun scenery. Booking a seat on the vintage Belle Époque train costs only 9 CHF, ideal for travelers who enjoy a nostalgic atmosphere. 3. Itinerary planning: The full route requires transfers in sections. Each one-way trip takes about 2 hours. Avoid rushing to catch connections and allow time for short stops to explore small towns. 2. Matterhorn Gornergrat scenic cogwheel train 1. Ticket discounts: The round-trip fare is about 96 CHF. Swiss Travel Pass and Half Fare Card holders pay half price at 48 CHF. Children under 6 travel free in summer. Children aged 6–15 with a Swiss Family Card ride free with their parents. The boarding point is opposite Zermatt station in the yellow hall. Tickets purchased online allow direct QR code scanning for entry and exit, with four ticket checks at key stations on the round trip. 2. Seating and schedule: On the way up, sit on the right side of the train for a full view of the Matterhorn. On the way down, choose the left side. The first train departs at 7 AM in summer, with departures every 24 minutes. The ascent takes 35 minutes. Don’t miss the last train down, as there is no alternative transportation from the mountain. 3. Climate and clothing: The summit is at 3,089 m elevation. On sunny summer days, the temperature feels like 7–10°C. Weather can change quickly in the mountains, so bring a light jacket. Walk slowly at high altitude; no strenuous running is needed, and altitude sickness is rare. 4. Photo spots: Get off at Rotenboden station and walk 10 minutes to Riffelsee Lake. On calm mornings, it’s easiest to capture the Matterhorn’s reflection in the lake. Each station allows only one-time boarding and disembarking. 3. General travel tips Summer is peak tourist season in Switzerland, so trains can be crowded. Keep valuables safe. UV rays are strong in the mountains, so bring high-SPF sunscreen and sunglasses. The two train rides are long, so consider bringing snacks. Food prices on the mountain are relatively high.

Temperatures drop noticeably by the lake in the evening, so carry a light sun-protection jacket. Shops in the old town close gradually after 8:00 PM. Carry small cash for purchases at street vendors. 3. Drone flights are banned over the core urban areas of both cities. Littering and unauthorized swimming in the lake are prohibited along the lakeside paths. Please follow the lake area's ecological management rules.

Chillon Castle

Take the train to Montreux and stroll along the shore of Lake Geneva. Beyond the water are the snow-capped mountains, stretching quietly. Chillon Castle is on a small stone island near the water. It is not big, but it takes you back to medieval Europe. It is worth a visit.

Golden Pass Railway

It is one of the prettiest places I have ever seen. In summer time, you’re almost guaranteed to have great weather. There are multiple paths to hike for more and less experiences trekkers.

Lake Geneva

Lake Geneva, which shares the same name as the city, is very vast, with a sapphire-like color and sparkling in the sun. From Geneva Airport, you can take a train to Nyon, a small town on the shore of Lake Geneva. The hotel rooms there are large, and the lake view rooms also have terraces to enjoy the lake view. The breakfast is very rich and cost-effective. From the dock in Nyon, you can take a boat to the French flower town opposite and experience the fun of crossing two countries in half an hour. The price of the flower town is lower than that of Switzerland, and it is very pleasant to enjoy authentic French food there.

The Olympic Museum

Excellent, definitely worth a visit. This is the most worthwhile place to visit in Lausanne. There are many things to see on the first four floors, especially the basement with its many video game exhibits – definitely worth checking out. The building faces Lake Geneva, making it a great spot for taking photos.

The Olympic Park is also a very beautiful place. The whole park is very large and the environment is quite elegant. There are many exhibits in the park, and you can enjoy many Olympic sports here. The visit to the park is also quite unique.
