針針タコス: The hotel was fully self-check-in with auto-locking doors, and no staff were present! Great value for money. There's a hairdryer available. However, the Wi-Fi wasn't working well, so I couldn't use it. They said it was under repair, so I recommend checking its status before booking! I booked a room with a window, but it couldn't be opened, and it was dark even during the day. The photos were taken at check-out, so it's a bit messy, but it was very clean when I arrived! This hotel is recommended for those who will be out and about all day, from morning till night!

AAnonymous User: Hotel is just a few minutes walk away from the cathedral and walking distance to all the sightseeing spots. The front desk is open only from 8am to 5pm but staff was not necessarily there all the time. They answer phone calls so I recommend getting eSIM with number so you can call staff when you needed when they are not there.

GGuest User: The personnel is fantastic (mostly all of them) specially if they try to help you. The room is average/medium due they give you a non renovated, non climatized room and a non screen shower in the bathroom so when you take a shower everything is a mess. Nice ambience in the hotel (reception area) and good in general (because of the offer I got from Trip, 41€) 300 mts from the central railway station and very quick check in.

GGuest User: Extremely impressive for how cheap it is. I’m sure you can get nicer but for an adventurous traveller, I’m not spending time in the hotel only to sleep! I could walk into town so I was very happy indeed with this!

GGuest User: Very positive experience! One of this hotel's biggest assets is its location, right in the city center, close to Vitosha Boulevard and all the main tourist attractions. The rooms are modern, comfortable, and well-equipped. The staff are welcoming and professional. The breakfast offers a great variety and is high quality. The only downside is the lack of space in the breakfast room, which is located near the reception. In conclusion, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay thanks to its central location, comfort, and excellent service. I highly recommend it!

Ssolo_shabana: Having stayed in many 5 star hotels across the world, I had high hopes for the Sofia Balkan Palace, that unfortunately were only partially met. First let’s cover the good points! It feels historic without being old, and you feel like you’re really in Sofia. The best thing about the property is easily the location; it’s close to all the main tourist attractions, and there are good transport links right by the hotel, as well as access to some fantastic restaurants, coffee shops, and stores. The hotel rooms are modern and relatively clean, with the usual amenities. However, I was disappointed that housekeeping kept forgetting to replenish the complimentary daily water, as well as pay attention to the ‘Do Not Disturb’ light that I had selected for my room on a few days during my visit. I would say that one of the downsides is the customer service; although staff aren’t rude, I wouldn’t say they’re polite or overly helpful. The hotel has average soundproofing, and I was far too aware of the music outside, my neighbouring guests talking or listening to music in their rooms, as well as guests in the hallway (which is in part due to the layout of my room, which did not have an additional door between the bedroom and front door into the room). The noise outside does lessen and stop by about 11:00 PM, and sometimes by 10:00 PM (depending on the day). Overall, I’d still say it’s a good choice for your stay in Sofia. Especially if your priority is staying in a historical boutique hotel in a good location.

XXiaoweide: The hotel is very conveniently located, just a 5-minute walk from the subway station, train station, and central bus station. The room amenities are well-equipped, and there are plenty of power outlets. The only downside is that there aren't many restaurants in the immediate surroundings, so I'd recommend eating out before heading back—especially since the city center is only 2 subway stops away.

That morning in Sofia, the chilly air beckoned us to leave the Intercontinental Hotel, opting instead for the neatly arranged breakfast. Instead, we opted for a small bakery called Furna – a warm bakery filled with the aroma of fresh bread and cinnamon, as if standing in front of someone else's kitchen door. On the pinewood walls inside, a chalkboard sign read: “KEEP CALM AND EAT BULGARIAN BANITSA” A phrase reflecting Bulgarian food culture, “banitsa” is a crispy, layered pastry filled with Bulgarian white cheese, eggs, and sometimes spinach or minced meat. It's a breakfast staple for Bulgarian families for hundreds of years, often served with yogurt and black coffee, a comforting start to the day. We sat down at a light wooden table, set our cups of black coffee down, and the steam slowly rose. The strong, bitter coffee contrasted the salty, rich flavor of the banitsa, while the thin, crispy outside and soft inside were perfectly balanced by the salty cheese. Each bite is packed with textures. Besides Banitsa, there's also a cinnamon roll topped with a creamy white icing that melts into the soft, fluffy bread. The cinnamon aroma is just right, not too sweet. It's perfect when paired with a strong black coffee. Sfogliatelle is a crispy, thin puff pastry filled with cream cheese and jam. The sweet and slightly sour notes create a fun twist on the palate. In Bulgaria, there's an old belief that Banitsa isn't just a food, but also a sign of good fortune for the New Year. Some families hide "little prophecies" or coins inside the dough, allowing each member to pick their own piece, as if to make a prediction for the year. If you're a fan of high-quality bakery goods and a warm, friendly atmosphere, this is the place to be. Things to Try: · Banitsa (Highly recommended, signature) · Cinnamon Roll and Croissant – European-style bakery items that are well-made · Black coffee or cappuccino complement the atmosphere. Tips: · Limited seating available. If you arrive late, it might be full, so arrive early. · For a truly cultural experience, order Banitsa with Bulgarian yogurt. Get the authentic, local breakfast feel. #tripbestfreeaccommodation #Sofia #Bulgaria #FurnaBakery #Banitsa #EuropeTrip #CafesAbroad #TravelBulgaria #CafeHopping

The Golden Bridges, or "Zlatnite Mostove," in the Vitosha Mountains, are not merely a geological phenomenon; they are a scene that fuses nature, beliefs, and people's memories. When the enormous boulders scattered down the mountain slopes, covered with deep green moss and golden autumn leaves, locals in the past interpreted them as the Golden Bridge, a bridge through which gods and forest spirits could travel between the human and supernatural realms. Legend has it that Vitosha was once the home of a giant, the protector of the land. These boulders are the result of a battle between the giant and the forces of snow and ice. Over time, the remaining stones have been interpreted as symbols of the great forces that shaped the Bulgarian landscape. · The Golden Bridges are one of the largest "stone rivers" in the Balkan Peninsula, formed by glaciers during the last Ice Age, which eroded the boulders into a smooth, glacial shape. · Since the 19th century, the Golden Bridges have been a popular recreation spot for Sofia residents. Many Bulgarian writers and poets have described their beauty in their writings. Often associated with the symbolic meaning of the "Golden Bridge," connecting the past to the future, these structures are often used by geologists to study rock movement and the effects of temperature changes on the mountain. In the morning, when white mist covers the gray rocks and the first rays of the day reflect off the golden leaves, the Golden Bridges create a surreal illusion. They serve as both evidence of a glacier's past and a platform for folk beliefs to live on in people's memory. #sofia #bulgaria #vitoshamountain #goldenbridge

#grouptourvssolotrip Looking for an affordable and easy destination for your next solo trip? Don’t overlook Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria! 🇧🇬 Compared with many Western European capitals, Sofia offers great value for money, a compact city center, and a relaxed atmosphere that makes exploring alone enjoyable. Here are three reasons why I think it’s a hidden gem for solo travelers! 💰 1. Great Value for Money Eating out, enjoying a coffee, and finding accommodation can be much more affordable than in Western Europe. You can enjoy charming cafés, local restaurants, and comfortable hotels without stretching your travel budget too much. 🚇 2. Easy to Explore Sofia’s city center is compact, with many major sights within walking distance. The metro connects the airport to the city center in around 20–30 minutes, making arrival surprisingly easy. Contactless bank card payments are also accepted at metro gates, while trams and shared bikes offer convenient ways to explore further. 🏛️ 3. Perfect for a Relaxed Itinerary Spend your days discovering beautiful churches, historic streets, local cafés, and museums. If you have extra time, take a day trip to the spectacular Rila Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I’d recommend around 5–6 days to enjoy Sofia and its surroundings at a relaxed pace. 💡 Tip: Sofia is a great choice if you want to experience a different side of Europe without the crowds and high prices of its more famous capitals. As with any solo destination, keep an eye on your belongings and take normal precautions, especially at night. 📍 Sofia, Bulgaria #BulgariaTravel #Sofia #EuropeTravel #HiddenGems

Plovdiv is a fascinating destination in Bulgaria, where ancient Roman remains sit alongside colourful Revival-era houses, creative neighbourhoods and modern cafes. Start in the Old Town, a historic area built across several hills. Its cobbled streets and beautifully decorated houses are among the city's most recognisable features. Many historic buildings now operate as museums, galleries and cultural spaces. One of the main highlights is the Ancient Theatre of Philippopolis, a remarkably preserved Roman theatre that still hosts performances and cultural events. Its setting on a hillside also provides attractive views over the city. Continue towards Nebet Tepe, an archaeological site with remains of ancient fortifications. It is a lovely place to enjoy a panoramic view, particularly towards the end of the day. For a more contemporary atmosphere, explore Kapana Creative District. The neighbourhood is filled with independent shops, restaurants, cafes and street art. It is a good place to take a break after exploring the historic centre. ✈️ Travel Tips · Allow 1–2 days to explore Plovdiv. · Wear comfortable shoes for the cobbled streets and uphill sections. · Visit the Ancient Theatre during the day to appreciate its architecture. · Spend some time in Kapana for local cafes and restaurants. · Plovdiv can be reached by train or bus from Sofia. Plovdiv is a rewarding destination for history and architecture lovers. Its combination of ancient landmarks and lively modern culture makes it one of Bulgaria's most interesting city breaks. #Plovdiv #BulgariaTravel #AncientTheatre #OldTownPlovdiv #NebetTepe #Kapana #RomanHistory #EuropeTravel #HistoricCities #TravelGuide
Hagia Sophia is the second oldest church in Sofia, dating back to the 6th century. In the 14th century, the city of Sofia was named after Hagia Sophia. Hagia Sophia was built on the basis of several existing churches. In the 2nd century AD, it was a Roman theater. The main hall and two towers on the east side and a domed tower were all built in the middle of the 6th century during the reign of Byzantine King Justinian I. As one of the most precious early church buildings in southeastern Europe, the church floor has complex early Christian decorations or mosaics with floral and animal patterns, and there are tombs underground and around it that are older than the church was built. People believe that Hagia Sophia has been blessed by mysterious forces and has not been damaged by human invasion and natural disasters for centuries. It is an architectural representative of elegance, simplicity and symmetrical beauty at that time.
