🇬🇧 ZONE 02 — SOUTH EAST ENGLAND

Southeast England | Sea, — traveler post in Brighton

🇬🇧 ZONE 02 — SOUTH EAST ENGLAND Southeast England | Sea, Castles, Old Towns, and English Villages If you're looking for a more "classic England" experience outside of London, the South East region is a great option. 🏰🌊 It offers historical cities, beautiful coastlines, castles, old villages, and vineyards, especially Kent and Sussex, renowned for their coastal routes and local wines. 📍 Must-Visit Places 👑 Windsor — Old town and Windsor Castle, perfect for those interested in royal history. 🏛️ Oxford — An ancient university city with a classic atmosphere, great for strolling. 🌊 Brighton — A vibrant seaside city with beaches, piers, restaurants, and trendy neighborhoods. ⛪ Canterbury — A historic city with Canterbury Cathedral as a highlight. 🤍 White Cliffs of Dover — White chalk cliffs overlooking the English Channel. Stunning sea views and one of Kent's most iconic landmarks: 🌿 Seven Sisters – Chalk cliffs by the sea perfect for scenic walks and photos. 🏘️ Rye – A small town with old streets, beautiful houses, and a nostalgic English atmosphere. 🏰 Bodiam Castle – A medieval castle surrounded by a moat, giving off a fairytale vibe. 🏰 🍇 Kent & Sussex Vineyards – Another hidden gem of England, with interesting wine production areas that many may not know about. 🚆 How to get there? A major advantage of the South East is its relatively convenient access from London, especially Windsor, Brighton, Canterbury, and other cities along the train lines. However, natural attractions like Seven Sisters or some castles may require bus or car travel. 🚆🚗 🌸 Best time to visit: April–June 🌷 Ideal for city walks and garden visits. July–August ☀️ Great for coastal areas and seaside towns, but usually crowded. September–October 🍂 Cooler weather, perfect for leisurely strolls. And it's a time when the countryside is incredibly beautiful. November–December ✨ Many old towns start to get into the Christmas spirit. 💡 Tip: Don't try to visit the entire South East region in one trip. 😄 We recommend dividing it into Kent / Sussex / Oxfordshire / Windsor and choosing to travel in groups. This will save travel time and allow you to travel without getting too tired. Recommended number of days: Approximately 4–6 days if you want to experience the old towns, coast, and nature without rushing. #SouthEastEngland #TravelEngland #EnglandTravel #UKTravel

Returned from the UK after 5 days, and my spending philosophy has collapsed. This is just too... — traveler post in Brighton

Returned from the UK after 5 days, and my spending philosophy has collapsed. This is just too...

Honestly, the lasting impression from the UK isn't the scenery, it's the bills 😭 The 20°C summer truly saved my life, but spending money was as easy as breathing. Below are all my heartfelt tips to avoid pitfalls and discover hidden gems. Save them now 👇 💸 Here are 3 major shocks that shattered my spending philosophy: 1️⃣ Public transport is a killer: London Underground starts at £2.8 for a single ride. You can easily spend CNY 100 on transport alone in a day, which is more expensive than food. 2️⃣ Eating out means crying over extra charges: A simple meal starts at £15, and a 12.5% service charge is automatically added to the bill. Even iced water costs money. 3️⃣ Peak season accommodation is a killer: During the August student holidays, an economy hotel can soar to £150+ per night. My hand really trembled when paying the bill. But honestly, after spending the money, I still feel it was worth it. Just follow my tips to avoid pitfalls, and you'll have a comfortable and photogenic August trip to the UK 👇 🥪 Food: More tips to avoid pitfalls ❌ Don't always sit down in restaurants. Tesco and Coop's Meal Deal is only £3.5 for a sandwich + drink + snack – a lifesaver. ❌ Most places near attractions with "Traditional" signs are overpriced and mediocre. Use the Too Good To Go app to snag a restaurant's daily mystery box for £4 – a surprise and a money-saver. ✅ Eat fresh oysters and truffle burgers at Borough Market. Portions are large enough for two, perfect for lunch. ✅ Independent coffee shops don't have a service charge. Order a flat white and sit for an afternoon. 🏨 Accommodation: Tips to avoid pitfalls ❌ Absolutely do not insist on staying in Soho or Covent Garden; prices are ridiculous. ✅ Stay along the Piccadilly Line or Victoria Line, for example, Earl's Court or north of King's Cross. It's 20 minutes to the city center, and accommodation prices are halved. ✅ Premier Inn's early bird rates are great, especially for family rooms with kids. Travelodge or B&Bs with small kitchens are also reliable; buying groceries to make breakfast saves a lot. 🚇 Transport: Tips to avoid pitfalls ❌ Don't buy single tickets! Just tap your contactless bank card or get an Oyster card. There's a daily cap, and the £5 deposit is refundable. ❌ Don't foolishly take Uber. Use Citymapper for buses and the Underground. The front seats on the upper deck of a double-decker bus offer cheap and enjoyable sightseeing. ✅ For short train trips from London to Brighton, always buy an Advance Single ticket on Trainline. Booking in advance costs only £5; buying on the spot will make you cry over the price. ⚠️ Attraction tickets must be booked in advance on the official website! For British Museum special exhibitions and Sky Garden, you might queue for half a day for nothing. 📸 Must-visit hidden gems & activities for an August escape (bonus edition) 🌳 Hyde Park Open: 5:00 AM–12:00 AM Admission: Free It's glowing green in August, with swans and squirrels around you. Rent a deckchair and relax by the Serpentine, and you might even catch a summer open-air concert. 🏛️ British Museum Open: 10:00 AM–5:00 PM (until 8:30 PM on Fridays) Admission: Free (special exhibitions cost extra and require timed entry booking on the official website) The air conditioning is so strong you might get cold. Escape the heat and gain knowledge. The Rosetta Stone and Egyptian mummies are must-sees. Friday evening visits are less crowded and offer an even better experience. 🏰 Buckingham Palace Changing of the Guard & State Rooms Changing of the Guard: Almost daily at 11:00 AM in August Viewing is free Arrive half an hour early to secure a spot. Watch the bearskin-hatted soldiers and military band march by – a full royal spectacle. The State Rooms are open in summer for about £30, and the palace garden is stunning. 🌃 Sky Garden Open: 10:00 AM–6:00 PM (until late Tue–Sat) Admission: Free, but you must book weeks in advance on the official website Located on the top floor of the Walkie-Talkie building, it's freezing cold with air conditioning. Enjoy 360-degree views of Tower Bridge and The Shard. The glass reflections at sunset make for amazing photos. 🌊 Brighton Beach Open: All day Beach is free A 1-hour direct train ride from London. Pebble beach with colorful lanes. The temperature is 22°C in August. Wade in the water and watch the sunset. Brighton Palace Pier has a vintage amusement park; rides cost just a few pounds. 🎡 Covent Garden Open: Market 10:00 AM–8:00 PM Admission: Free Street performers entertain in rotation. Drink coffee at an outdoor table. There's an antique market on Sundays. Summer evenings here are full of relaxed vibes. 🗓 5-day summer escape itinerary (relaxed but exciting) Day 1 Morning: Arrive, head straight to Buckingham Palace for the 11 AM Changing of the Guard. Noon: Picnic at St. James's Park with a supermarket Meal Deal, then relax at Hyde Park. Evening: Watch a show at Covent Garden, eat affordable steak at Flat Iron. Day 2 Morning: Enter the British Museum at 10 AM, explore until early afternoon. Noon: Eat Wagamama ramen next to the museum. Afternoon: Visit Sky Garden for panoramic views (pre-booked), take photos in the cool air. Evening: Stroll along the Thames to Tower Bridge, watch the lights and enjoy the evening breeze. Day 3 Morning: Train to Brighton, browse the colorful shops in North Laine. Noon: Fish and chips at Regency by the beach, watch seagulls snatch food. Afternoon: Take a spin at the pier amusement park, then photograph the exterior of the Royal Pavilion. Evening: Train back to London around 8 PM, grab a simple meal from a convenience store. Day 4 Morning: Hike up Greenwich Park to see the Prime Meridian, free panoramic views. Noon: Walk through the foot tunnel under the river to the other side, take the Emirates Air Line cable car across the Thames (approx. £6 with Oyster card), stunning high-altitude sunset views. Evening: Eat Spanish paella at Borough Market, enjoy a glass of Pimm's. Day 5 Morning: Notting Hill Portobello Road Market, hunt for vintage jewelry and film cameras (if you happen to be there for the Notting Hill Carnival on the last weekend of August, join the street party 🎉). Noon: Grab a crepe from a street vendor. Evening: Organize your souvenirs, head to the airport with an album full of cool memories. 💰 Budget reference (excluding international flights) For 5 days of food, accommodation, transport, and activities, comfortable but not budget-breaking, expect around CNY 7,500–9,500 per person. Accommodation is the biggest expense. Booking in advance and choosing the right area can immediately save you 2,000+. Transport relies on daily caps and Advance tickets. Food relies on supermarkets and markets, easily saving enough for a lipstick. August in the UK is like a natural air-conditioned room. Although money flows like water, the comfort of walking in a sweat-free summer is something I've been desperately missing 💙

It is said that spring in southern England turns the coast into poetry

Spring in southern England bids farewell to the bleakness of winter. When the warm breeze carries the scent of flowers across the white cliffs of the south, every bay performs a romantic prelude unique to spring~ 🎨Brighton | The Spring Palette in an Artist’s Brush A super healing seaside town in southern England, where the gentle sea breeze caresses the Royal Pavilion Pier. Next to the carved railings of the 18th-century Indian-style palace, new vines quietly stretch out tender green tendrils. On the pebble beach, shells and sea glass washed ashore by the spring tide sparkle with tiny fragments of light under the sun. Step into the vintage shops in the North Laine district, hold a steaming latte, listen to street performers sing, and even the air feels lazy yet fresh. ⛰️White Cliffs | The Watch of Meadows and Blue Sea The Seven Sisters National Park in spring is a natural palette! Tender green meadows spread along the miles of chalk cliffs, colliding with the deep blue sea. Standing on the cliff top looking out at the lonely lighthouse, scattered wildflowers dot the ground beneath your feet, swaying gently in the breeze, naturally adding a soft filter. 🌊Polkerris | Cornwall’s Spring Theater A small fishing village hidden in the emerald bay, even gentler in spring. Don’t miss the Easter egg—the Minack Theatre, an open-air stage on the cliff edge. Through the Romanesque arches, the wild Atlantic Ocean softens a bit in spring~ 🏘️Bath | Springtime Glow on the Ancient Roman Baths Spring in Bath is wrapped in a faint rose fragrance, with sunlight casting over honey-colored Georgian buildings. Tender green leaves stretch along the elegant architectural curves. Wandering between the Circus and the Royal Crescent, the sun stretches the shadows of the arched colonnades long. The thermal waters of the Roman Baths glow warmly in spring, and the ancient stone arches are dotted with moss. ------------------------------- Limited 30% off!!! Limited 30% off!!! Royal Romance in the Eastern Imagery of the Royal Pavilion — traveler post in Brighton

Royal Romance in the Eastern Imagery of the Royal Pavilion

Hidden in the streets of Brighton is a transcontinental aesthetic marvel 🕌, built in the 18th century by George IV to house his obsession with the East. The pure white Indian-style dome paired with flying eaves gleams warmly under the seaside sun, while the interior fully embodies Chinese elegance, making every step feel like a time-travel encounter. The palace is full of intricate details: the gilded pillars in the throne hall are entwined with dragon reliefs, and the painted dome recreates an Eastern fairyland 🌌. The velvet upholstery on the seats shimmers with subtle patterns; on the redwood tables in the Chinese tea room, the entire white porcelain tea set is decorated with orchid grass patterns, the glaze so translucent it looks soaked in moonlight, and even the gold edging on the tea cups is exquisitely flawless. The £4 Chinese audio guide is very practical, revealing that some brocade patterns are inspired by ancient Chinese paintings and some porcelain vases were royal custom orders. For £19.5, you can visit multiple times, discovering new details each time without ever feeling bored. 📍Address: 4/5 Pavilion Buildings, Brighton BN1 1EE 🚌Transport: Get off at North Street station or a 15-minute walk from the train station ⏰Hours: October to March 10:00-17:15; April to September 9:30-17:45; closed after 14:30 on December 24 and on December 25 and 26 🎫Tickets: Adults £19.5, audio guide £4 (available in Chinese)

🇬🇧 Explore South East England – The Charm of Southeast Eng — traveler post in Brighton

🇬🇧 Explore South East England – The Charm of Southeast England, Offering Castles, Old Towns, and Coastal Nature If you want to explore England outside of London, consider venturing to South East England. This region is full of beautiful cities, historic architecture, royal castles, and stunning coastal scenery. It's a charming area perfect for a leisurely trip to soak up the English atmosphere. 🇬🇧 🏰 Windsor Castle Start with an ancient castle boasting over 900 years of history and serving as one of the British royal residences. Inside, you'll find the beautiful State Apartments and St. George's Chapel. Outside, The Long Walk offers stunning views of the castle as a backdrop, making it ideal for photos. ⛪ Canterbury Cathedral Continue to Canterbury, a historic city with a classic atmosphere. The highlight is the ancient cathedral, dating back to 597 AD. Inside, you'll find impressive Gothic architecture, high ceilings, and stained-glass windows. It's a place that reflects the religious and historical stories of England in a fascinating way. 🌊 Seven Sisters Country Park – Seven Sisters Cliffs Let's change the atmosphere and enjoy nature. Here, white chalk cliffs stretch along the coast, contrasting with the sea and green meadows. It's one of the most beautiful and unique views in England, perfect for nature walks, photography, and relaxing outdoors. Just be careful of the cliff edges, as they can erode and collapse. 🏛️ Royal Pavilion – Brighton Royal Palace Another place with unique and distinctive architecture. The building's shape and dome are inspired by Indian architecture, while the interior is decorated with art influenced by China. Originally a seaside residence of King George IV, it is now a major landmark in Brighton. 📚 Oxford – University City Finally, a world-renowned university city, full of old stone buildings and beautiful streets. Must-sees include the Radcliffe Camera, Bodleian Library, and the Bridge of Sighs. The city has a classic and peaceful atmosphere, perfect for strolling and admiring the architecture while stopping at cafes along the way. 🚆 Transportation and Recommendations If starting from London... Many cities in this area are accessible by train, such as Windsor, Canterbury, Brighton, and Oxford. For the Seven Sisters, you'll need to take a bus from a nearby town like Seaford or Eastbourne. It's recommended to spread your trip over several days and avoid trying to visit all five locations in one day, as they are located in different areas and offer considerable exploration. Check train schedules, opening hours, and book tickets in advance for popular attractions. South East England is ideal for those who want to experience multiple facets of England in one trip, including magnificent castles, historic old towns, unique architecture, and coastal natural beauty. It's a region worth adding to your England travel itinerary. 💚 #SouthEastEngland #EnglandTravel #TravelGuide

🇬🇧 Baiya Day Trip — traveler post in Brighton

🇬🇧 Baiya Day Trip

There are so many travel guides online, it's just too confusing! You get off the train and walk for ages, then get on and off again and walk some more. This guide reveals the most classic White Cliffs route, round trip from London, with simple steps as follows: 1️⃣ London 🚄 Brighton Take the 10:05 London Bridge - Brighton train. Arrive around 11:00 AM. Have lunch and buy water and snacks near the train station. Water is essential!!! 2️⃣ Take the 13X train directly to Birling Gap After lunch, take the 12:40 Birling Gap train. Arrive at Birling Gap around 2:00 PM. Follow this schedule without fail; otherwise, you'll have to take the 12/12X and walk a bit further after getting off. Page 5 shows the bus timetable. It's not just Sundays that run the 13X bus; it seems that before daylight saving time, the 13X also ran on weekdays, just less frequently. So plan your time accordingly! 3️⃣ Start hiking the Seven Sisters Cliffs route 🚶Birling Gap (accessible to the beach) - 🚶Belle Tout (old land-based lighthouse) - 🚶Beachy Head (red and white sea lighthouse) The entire route covers the three most classic points and takes approximately 2 hours (including breaks for lunch, photos, and rest). Therefore, after reaching Beachy Head, we waited a while for the bus. 🚌【🕙16:40 Take the 13X bus from the Beachy Head stop to Brighton. Arrive at the train station around 18:10, then take the train back to London. Suitable for: 1. Those who prefer a relaxed trip 2. Those who aren't particularly interested in the filming locations of the White House in the movie *Atonement*. The overall energy expenditure is moderate; you won't feel too tired, but you'll have seen most of the sights. **We recommend wearing light-colored or white clothing for great photos!!** Comfortable shoes are a must, as there's a short hike of about 40 minutes. 🫶

Following Trip.com's recommendations, here's a day trip to London's Seven Sisters Cliffs and Brighton.

This time, I joined a Trip.com tour for a day trip to the Seven Sisters cliffs and the exotic city of Brighton, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves nature and beautiful scenery! The weather was fantastic that day; the scenery under the blue sky and white clouds was postcard-perfect, and every snapshot was a masterpiece 🌤️. Although the drive was a bit long, the scenery along the way was worth taking your time to appreciate, and the journey was very relaxing. The stop in Brighton was rather short, so I recommend grabbing a bite to eat as soon as you get off the bus. Overall, this tour offers stunning views of the Seven Sisters cliffs, and the feeling of standing atop Beachy Head is truly breathtaking. The included Chinese-speaking guide and photo service were also a thoughtful bonus 📸. Tips: Pack light and enjoy plenty of walking, hiking, and photo opportunities; plan your meals in Brighton in advance to make the most of your time.

Royal Pavilion

It is worth a visit. The palace is very luxurious and exquisite not only at that time but also now. The Chinese elements are very shocking. Among the many castles and palaces in Europe, the Chinese elements are the main ones. You can also see the wallpaper, furniture and porcelain customized in Guangzhou, China at that time.

The Lanes

more like a downtown touristy place with many cafes and cosmetic shops. very easy to get lost while looking for some place on maps. almost did when i was lookong for Mac cosmetics...you will find Jo Malone, Bobby Brown and Mac cosmetics all in one small area. and coffee shops too. on my second attempt i was looking for pizza express and i almost missed it. hehehh the lanes is one place that gets you wondering what exactly is going on with your maps application. definately recomend you to not miss it while in brighton. on your way to lanes you will meet Tmax the famous brand discount shop and boy, you will thank me then.
