Liaoning Yixian Fengguo Temple: The first of the eight major Liao structures, a glimpse of a thousand years of dreamy splendor
Today is the beginning of winter. The first snow that just fell in the northeast a few days ago has almost melted away, replaced by a drizzle and chilly weather. The main hall of Fengguo Temple in Yixian, Liaoning, still has some remaining snow on the north side of its roof. The green tiles and white snow, under the ink-dyed sky, seem like a boundary painting from the Song Dynasty. A snowfall brings Yixian back to the Liao Dynasty a thousand years ago.
In 1020 AD, it was the fourth year of Tianxi in the Northern Song Dynasty. However, the sixteen states of Youyun, where Yixian, then known as Yizhou, was located, belonged to another dynasty, the Liao Dynasty, and the year was the ninth year of Kaixi in Emperor Shengzong's reign.
Emperor Shengzong of Liao, named Yelü Longxu, was a capable emperor who was well-versed in Han culture. Under the leadership of his mother, Empress Dowager Xiao, he had repeatedly led troops to invade the Song Dynasty south of the Great Wall, forcing the Song Dynasty to sign the Chanyuan Treaty at their doorstep, paying annual tributes in exchange for over a hundred years of peace on the Liao-Song border.
Under Yelü Longxu's diligent governance, the Liao Dynasty was prosperous and economically strong. At this time, his mother, Empress Dowager Xiao, who had nurtured him into a wise ruler, had passed away ten years ago. He, too, had passed the prime of his life and was about to enter the last decade of his life. Standing in the second half of life, one can't help but look back.
Under the influence of Empress Dowager Xiao, Yelü Longxu had a high level of Han cultural accomplishment, was good at poetry and literature, understood music, and 'comprehended the principles of both Buddhism and Taoism'. It was rumored that Yelü Longxu was the reincarnation of Sakyamuni Buddha, and Yixian was the fief of his mother, Empress Dowager Xiao's family. Therefore, he ordered the construction of a royal temple here.
The temple was built, initially named Xianxi, later changed to Fengguo, with a grand scale and Tang Dynasty style. The main hall undoubtedly is the absolute core of this group of buildings. It is situated in the center of the temple, standing on a high platform, declaring the supreme imperial power with the dignity of the 'nine-five'. Inside the hall, on the altar, the past seven Buddhas were lined up from east to west, towering and solemn. In front of each Buddha, there were two Bodhisattvas, and on the beam, there were colorful flying apsaras.
Among the past seven Buddhas, the one on the far west is Sakyamuni Buddha, who is said to be the previous life of Emperor Shengzong of Liao, Yelü Longxu. Therefore, some people infer that this is very likely based on the concept of 'the king is the Dharma king', corresponding to the 'past seven Buddhas' in Buddhism, from the founding emperor of Liao to Taizu, Taizong, Shizong, Muzong, Jingzong, and Shengzong, a total of seven emperors.
A thousand years have passed, and things have changed. A wooden building has miraculously survived through the long and turbulent times, avoiding wars, lightning, earthquakes, and movements.
When I stand on the high platform of the main hall, looking at it, that glance is a thousand years.
There is nothing wrong with the attractions. It is a pity that the ticket does not give the commemorative ticket stub. Why buy it online, don't give the commemorative ticket stub? The attraction itself is very worth a visit, and there are not many people going during May Day. It is a relatively cold, but it is a very worth visiting. The route is a bit lame. But also going. The road of other attractions is very worth going.
More convenient and convenient, more expensive than Douyin, it is really shocking, it is still worth seeing, the murals inside are still seriously damaged, and the Buddha statues are solemn! Have the opportunity to enjoy it!
The world is worth Fengguo Temple! One of the eight major Liao structures, the Liao Dynasty Royal Monastery built in 1020 AD, is really shocking. I went to Jinzhou, and then took a long-distance bus to Yixian at Jinzhou Bus Station, and then took a taxi to Fengguo Temple for 5 yuan. Although the journey is difficult, Fengguo Temple is still worth it.
Came on May 1st, located in Yixian County, Jinzhou, Liaoning Province. It was built in Liaokaitai nine years (1020), first named Xianxi Temple, and then Yiming Fengguo Temple. The Liao Jinyuan period was the heyday of Fengguo Temple. To the Ming and Qing Dynasties, only the Daxiong Palace remained. The Qing Dynasty continued to build six-point bell pavilion, four-point monument pavilion, Wuliang Palace, archway, hill gate and Xigong Temple. Fengguo Temple is one of the three major temples in China's Liao Dynasty. Its landmark ancient building, the Daxiong Palace, is the largest temple of ancient relics, and there is the world's oldest and largest clay-plastic colored Buddha statue group. The main building of the Daxiong Palace and the monastery in Fengguo Temple, the layout of the Tang Dynasty, Xia Qiliao, Jin and other monasteries, is the most typical example of Liaojin Temple. Among them, the Daxiong Palace is the highest achievement of the Buddhist architecture in the Liao Dynasty, representing the highest level of Chinese architecture in the 11th century. Architect Liang Sicheng once published an academic report, calling the Liao Dynasty monastery "a thousand-year national treasure, a supreme national treasure, rare treasure. Fengguo Temple is the largest of the Liao Dynasty Buddha Temple." It is said that during the Liao Shen Battle, there were shells that fell into the temple and did not blow up.
Liang Sicheng called Fengguo Temple a thousand-year national treasure. This temple built to commemorate the Queen Xiao of Liaoguo has been 1004 years since. The seven Buddhas in the temple of Daxiong Temple are sitting in an extraordinary state. Although the murals around them are somewhat broken, they can be seen inexplicably. The wooden beams on the top of the palace and the flying sky are beautifully painted! No wonder Wang Jiawei also came here to shoot movies. Now the clove flowers in the courtyard are also in full bloom. It is a good time for worshipping Buddha.
It is definitely worth seeing a young man who met someone else to explain. I heard that the young man was very wonderful. Not only knowledgeable, but also through the ancient and modern era, it is not a text-style endorsement explanation. It is vivid and interesting. It is a little bit cute. It is adorable to understand the national security.
It is worth a visit. The small town has a small flow of people, and you can truly experience the local Hui folk customs. Look at the ancient buildings for a hundred years. After the storm, you can't stand it, and marvel at the wisdom of the ancients. There will be unexpected surprises in niche places.
