Dongpaotai Haibin Sceneic Area

The East Fort Seaside Scenic Area is located on the beautiful Haibin North Road in Yantai City, which is praised by the World Tourism Organization as "a sea area comparable to the Mediterranean coast". It is backed by the Heiqi Mountain in the south and faces Zhifu Island and Kongtong Island across the sea in the north. It covers an area of ​​about 100,000 square meters. It is a comprehensive coastal tourist Attraction integrating coastal sightseeing, historical sites, tourism and national defense education, and a provincial cultural relic protection unit. The East Fort was built in 1891. At that time, Li Hongzhang, the Minister of Beiyang in the late Qing Dynasty, petitioned Emperor Guangxu to build a fort here to prevent the invasion of enemy ships from the north. The ancient fort, which cost one million taels of silver, was built with coastal defense facilities such as the fort gate, Qing soldier barracks, command post, narrow trench for transporting troops, and shelters. It was equipped with Krupp cannons that were technologically advanced in the world at that time. The ancient fort is majestic and combines Chinese and Western styles. It is one of the most well-preserved coastal defense facilities in China's modern coastal defense history. The Seal Bay built along the bay is a special tourist attraction of the East Fort. More than 60 spotted seals are raised in the Seal Bay, and the water circulation is carried out by natural tides. The entire Seal Bay is divided into three functional areas: free-range area, performance area and water-friendly area. Visitors here can not only see the wonderful performances of the little seals, but also have close contact with them, take photos with them, and experience the joy of harmonious coexistence between humans and animals.
