杭州西湖有“花港观鱼”，于是武汉东湖也效仿出“碧潭观鱼”。相较前者的“秀气”，这里所展现出来的，就是一如武汉城市风格的“霸气”。水潭面积很大，上面架有多座曲桥，连接着众多亭台厅榭，并以中央的绿瓦攒尖式大厅最为醒目。大厅内有“碧潭观鱼”的图文简介，出售鱼食，方便客人喂养潭中生猛活泼的各种鱼类。

碧潭观鱼这个景点也是东湖听涛景区的核心景点之一。和西湖相对应的，东湖其实也有看鱼的地方，整个湖面非常的平静，里面有各种的鱼供大家观赏，不仅有大家喜欢的锦鲤，还有又大，又黑的大鱼，值得每一个来东湖的人在这里慢慢的观赏，并拍出美丽的照片。
