Seeing in Operation
Getting the opportunity to see the drawbridge in operation was really a cool experience. Just spending a few hours in Woods Hole it was a pleasant surprise to see it manned and in operation.
The day we were in Woods hole, the drawbridge was not manned, and thus could not see it in operation or tour the office area. It is a small bridge, which definitely needs to open for any kind of sail...
I have spent summers here since 1965 and have always enjoyed the drawbridge. I now live here. In the past, as a pedestrian or bike rider, you could help the bridge tender by opening/closing the gates....
This is a drawbridge. It lets boats of varying sizes to cross under Water Street and enter Eel Pond. Ok...that's all. Ho hum. There is a very nice breakfast place nearby.
